Icecap Build

So, since Icecap got a pretty significant buff, I decided to go back to Frost (I hate BoS with a passion).

So far, with my current, not at all optimized setup of azerite traits, it seems pretty solid, I’m having a ton of fun. It is a Haste based setup though and I used to run something similar during Legion.

I really like to run Frostwhelp’s Indignation paired with Icecap, though I gotta watch my positioning, the damage stacks up quite nicely.

I’m just divided on my trinkets, I have 2 on use Haste ones (Galecaller’s Beak and Ramping Amplitude Gigavolt Engine) and the new punchcard thing, not sure on the setup, but I kinda prefer the 2 on use, I made a simple macro to use both, while knowing the internal CD between them.

Hey, as long as you happy, im glad it shows that haste is amazeballs.

I’m trying the same idea of a build. icecap with haste buffs and the frost whelps. im also taking the bonus strength after pillar of frost is over trait and it seems awesome.

My haste still sits below 12% but I find the rotation quite fluid compared to 8.1.

I’ve been using crit trinkets but my rezan’s eye that I use for blood sims higher with my icecap build and Blood of the Enemy has been pretty strong in dungeons. The essence itself leads to some dramatic icecap/icy citadel overlap which can get some nice numbers rolling as well.

Although I’ve seen it recommended that only one “on use” trinket be worn at the same time, I feel the need to note that the current 8.2 trinkets seem to be underwhelming on the sims that I have seen. This includes the “punch card” trinket.
By underwhelming I mean rated below 370 WQ rewards.

Ive been trying ir out with unoptomized gear and poor 1h weapons with some decent results really think a haste/crit build with icy citadel / frostwhelps indignation trait stacking will really shine. Only downside is that we dont have many options to make 3/3 trait build happen.

Blood of the Enemy (maj/min) visions (min) will probably be thw best initial if not overall setup for the first two essence slots.

I’m currently working on the BiS lists for Eternal Palance. I’ll include BiS for all three major builds, so we can properly compare their performance with the best gear available to each.

Looking forward to that, though you already know which build I want to be at the top :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I was thinking about the essences, Vision of Perfection as the major and Memory of Lucid Dreams as the first minor and Essence of the Focusing Iris as the possible third one.

These, depending on proc rate, at least considering my play style, would give a lot more rune uptime + a crap ton of Haste, which I love.

I don’t think builds with icecap and obliteration need the resources that these essences provide. Lucid minor might be strong enough to still be the best minor tho. I think crucible major for sure, but not so sure about minor.

I just talked about those based on the way I like to play, lots of Haste, but yeah they are likely overkill if we’re talking resources.

Crit also help with parry .

So when i use my trinket, it bumps my crit to about 45-60% and parry to like 35-45%.

Probably blood uh only idk how frost even work lol

Should I play Ice cap or just play DH?

I do not like BoS 2min burst play style. I’m over UH play style… Passives and Army.

I feel like I’m handicapping myself going forward if I pick fdk Ice cap build. I do not see any gear where i can stack the Whelps and Icy Citadel for it to work going forward.

DH seems like there is less overhead. Can use same spec/gear in pve/pvp/mythics. Seems like their upgrade path is clearer. Where DK I feel like I need 4 bags of gear so i can switch between content.

I know this is a play what you like type post… but I’ve mained DK for so long its pissing me off I feel like I have to drop it. Hoping to get some insights from people who are in the same boat.

You don’t need to stack whelps and icy citadel for the build to work. Look at this juicy BiS sim for Icecap:

Thanks, Cant wait for the Ice Cap build guide to be added on WoWhead! Stat priority, traits, essence etc.

Thanks bud you the man!

Got some time over, I’ll just do it now.

Got BiS gear and stat weights, BiS essences are Life-Force Major, Worldvein Minor and Focusing Iris Minor.

For the build you are going 1,2,x,2,x,1,1?

31x2x11 is the best build.

I just tried out Icecap for the last few days from Oblit and daaaaamn, it is satisfying. I haven’t done the min-maxing at all but so far I’ve been using the major critical strike chance glyph, the one that stacks for each non-crit and then gives you 50% crit chance for 3 secs.

I’ve had a few windows where my 3x Icy Citadel procced for 3k str and then I had pillar stacked on top of it AND the 50% crit happened, and in that small window I Chains of Frosted for like 70k and FrostWyrmed for even more. Huge burst but I’m liking how fluid it feels with very little downtime. There’s so much RP that you can just unload frost strike until you can oblit more. Even in pvp it seems pretty powerful.

With so much RP coming in, I hit Transfusion and just DS myself back to nearly full, icy citadel procs after pillar, and I unload again and it’s pretty absurd. I wish there was an addon that tells me when IC and Pillar are overlapping AND my chains of frost is at 20 so I know to use it. Now I have to wait for those windows to get the HUGE burst dmg from it.

I imagine it will be even stronger when I actually go through a guide for min-maxing.
