Didn’t Blizzard pull some ToS out years ago over RP addons being used in a similar way?
I remember people using MRP for “Realm blocklists and warnings” and getting a report feature for a bit with that addon. Due to some pressure from Blizzard, iirc.
and it’s like, you would think leaving that alone is the best thing, but if you’ve ever installed that addon and walked around in goldshire… there’s some actual dehumanizing things
like let me be clear, people have their preferences, but there’s some really, really insane things
like, people have their PREFERENCES preferences, this is still way over the top
i read a profile that fetishized their credit card.
What a ridiculous response from the GM team. What, they’re incapable of forwarding something like that over for review?!
Instead they say, “Go post on the GENERAL forums somewhere between the LGBTQRSZT-whatever and the ‘I’m quitting’ threads so the developers can see it there?” Unbelievable.
What an insult to your intelligence, that must have been a very frustrating response.
I’ve seen a lot of stuff on my time on MG so I’m pretty chill with most the stuff now. But if I see people trying to erp as a 13 year old “in character” (Yes this actually happens) that’s an instant report for me and I call some guildies over to report as well.
The inn is the only place where the server really is bad. Most people are chill otherwise and it didn’t seem like you were attributing that to the entire server at all lol.
They don’t see the bad side because they don’t think it could happen to them. In their mind their own definition of right and wrong is universal law, which they’re always on the good side of on, and everyone who gets hit with false reports ‘did something wrong’. They’re laser focused on the ‘cleansing’ aspect of the system to weed out ‘undesirables’.
Unfortunately every one else wanting to abuse the system thinks the same way, and each has their own idea of right and wrong.
At first it’s fun and funny when everyone’s picking on a handful of ‘community black sheep’ who can be safely dismissed as ‘the bad guys’ AKA the ‘undesirables’.
All hell breaks lose when the black sheep get up and leave. Suddenly there is a ‘spittoon vacuum’ that needs to be filled, because these systems feed on the purity spiral effect.
Suddenly the same people who thought themselves untouchable will come under attack from the other tin-pot dictators, because there HAS to be something to weed out. The spiral continues, with more and more people leaving and being attacked, until the community becomes a ghost town.
One source: I was a ‘community black sheep’ on other game. When I left the community, who were so convinced I was the problem, basically imploded on each other and ripped themselves to shreds. I have to admit it was amusing to learn that one of the people defending the leader of the group who disliked me, who called me ‘jealous’ for complaining, came under attack by that same ‘perfect’ person in my absence. It was like watching a star super nova. Beautiful.
