I want JAB back, with Weapon Animation for Shadowlands

Title.

Monk was my favourite melee class I’ve ever played. I never cared if jab with a weapon hit softly, I just loved that I had the weapon animation part of my visual enjoyment within the rounds of melee, punching + kicking. I felt like a Ninja.

When they took away JAB … It literally gradually killed my love of my monk. I play my monk on occasion to this day, and briefly, and it always results in the same problem. I just want to see my stupid swords or polearm Crack down on enemy heads, even if only for JAB only.

Can we PLEASE have a glyph for this in shadowlands? I don’t need no math change, no skill changes, nothing like that, JUST a visual Slight change So I can see my monk swing his ninja swords like I did in MOP

I can’t express how much grieveance, heartache, anger, frustration, I’ve had about this for YEARS now.

Does anyone else remember the days when we would mog As ninja’s, and see our swords flash for that one moment in the fight? It FELT SO SO GOOD!

Please Blizzard
Sigh.

I don’t know why people think that Monks shouldn’t be allowed to use weapons. Monks are often masters of weapons.

It’s like when people think that Druids should always be shapeshifters. Druids are basically nature wizards. There are druids out there that don’t turn into animals at all.

More customization is always a good thing, in my opinion.

I don’t get the point of giving WW 2H and BM DW if they’re never going to actually use those weapons… with Jab gone in Legion and Blackout Strike gone in Shadowlands, Monks don’t have a single weapon attack left, it’s ridiculous

All I got out of this is druid should’ve been called nature wizards!

I haven’t been too bothered about not using the weapons, but it would be nice if they at least add a glyph to change the animation of tiger palm.

WoW monk are not masters of weapons though.

Official blizzard lore of Monk class is master of “Weaponless Combat” and the “No Weapon Style”

Then why have weapons at all? I’m very serious. Allowing us to equip weapons that are never actually used in any way beyond decoration is irritating and dishonest. Must I always pretend that when i’m logged out My Monk Uses weapons? This is a game design / Lore conflict that is unresolved, and subject to previous history of itemization that did not respect lore, which then things changed and got messy.

They introduced me as an Orc Monk Who had ninja blades. That was my Day ZERO Monk experience, and it was the most exciting class i’ve ever played before, and after their introduction.

And the cosmetic removal of this is idiotic. And Lore/Gameplay is very easily changed, we’ve seen blizzard do it before. And there’s ZERO excuse that it can’t be made to work. In example - 2 handed shaman was deliberately taken away because of moronic, and very rare videos showing magic moments of windfury crits. Yes very magical miracle moments, but they were VERY rare. That was the trade off, you were swinging WIND otherwise for fart clouds of forgettable damage.

As @Vaalrok mentioned – more customization is always the better idea that makes more people happy. Taking things away is awful.

Is it weird that I’ve never noticed this? I guess I just don’t care.

The same reason mages have weapons and don’t use them. Same reason warlocks have weapons but don’t use them. Same reason ele shamans have weapons but don’t use them. Same reason resto shamans have them and don’t use them. Same reason druids have weapons but don’t use them. Same reason priests have them and don’t use them.

Stats. The game is balances around that slot #7 being filled with something for a balance of stats.

If we didn’t need that spot for stats that +200 agility +200 Mastery +200 stam our toons would fall behind in all aspects of the game.

You asked… even said your very serious. The only reason it is included is stats.

Yeah but with monks, they USE to be able to and now they can’t

Where as casters never could

I wouldn’t consider guardian druids and feral druids “casters”.

Doesn’t change the official lore of monks being “Masters of Weaponless Combat” and using a “No-Weapon Style”.

Well i mean…yeah they turn into animals, how would they use weapons with no hands? But my point was they never could use weapons to begin with.

I’m not saying they should only use weapons, but having to have the option for a glyph to change lets say tiger palm as an example to a weapon animation would be nice for the people who want a weapon animation and wouldn’t hurt those that don’t

And there are so many example of monks using weapons, off the top of my head both cinematics with monks in them has them using weapons(pandaria expac cinematic and siege of org cinematic with taran zhu) all of your legion followers have weapons, the leveling monk quests to fight other monks has them using their weapons. We even get legendary weapons in legion so clearly monks using weapons in SOME capacity is a part of their lore

Yes, you definitely cannot dispute the fact legion artifacts for Windwalkers (looking at you, Slade) so your copy and pasting of the class description is… meh.
Also, Legion artifacts took a lot of effort from the team so much so they would never do the same again (as they claim). It’s just super odd they wouldn’t do their best to show case these amazing pieces in the game… even in the expansion they were featured in.

*Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of fist weapons. I grew up watching/reading a lot of martial arts fantasy (Wuxia) and that’s almost NEVER really a thing.

All day one monks, during Mist of Pandaria, could have weapons sitting on their backs when not used (unique at the time) and were shown using their weapons via a skill called JAB. And it stayed that way for well beyond MOP until at some point they took this away. I have no idea why, In fact I even thought originally it was a bug.

I would also love to see weapon animations . I believe they said they were looking at it but no results. I always believe the lack of monk players results in less attention. Btw, I find myself using “disable” a lot just to see some sorts of weapon animations.

All I want is for the monk to be able to use the polearm/staff animations. Even if it’s just the base attacks. When I was trying out a female belf Hunter, she had amazing staff animations that honestly looked kinda monk like but since I cannot transmog leather, it cause problems with the character I am going for… So… please give us a glyph or something… Especially with you letting more specs use 2h again, why not give them the animations?

Yes! I was so upset when they got rid of Jab. And polearms in general. I feel like polearms are the best weapon for monks, not freaking fist weapons. I mean, even Chen uses a polearm weapon in the MoP cinematic :frowning:

I like fist weapons, but I wish monk weapons were an option.

Weirdly enough, most of the fist weapons that actually DID exist were primarily of Indian origin and use, not Eastern Asia. Check out Katars.

Even brass knuckles were seemingly popularized by the Sikh and then adopted more heavily in Europe and North America. Lincoln’s bodyguards carried them.

That’s a cool fact about Lincoln’s bodyguards, didn’t know that!
