SoD has proven that the players want Classic+ and that it can work. I personally had a lot of fun during SoD prior to P2 endgame, more so than in any WoW expansion. Unfortunately, SoD has proven to be too much to handle for the SoD developers. They have been unable to balance the game since day one, but now at 40 the game is already a circus and frankly insulting to the balance in the original game. I am dreading the balance in phases 3 and 4 and would have already unsubscribed if not for my guild and the slim hope that things may get better.
I am only subbed due to SoD. These massive imbalances make me feel like my time as a paying customer is not valued. We were promised weekly balance changes but all we get is “sorry” while the lead dev is writing essays about gatekeeping on X instead of working.
Frankly, I would prefer them to just scrap SoD now that they have gauged play interest and put a more experienced dev team with more resources in charge of Classic+. Classic just needs a bit of tweaking to help certain classes, not backported abilities in the form of runes that blow classic abilities completely out of the water and break the game.
The current balance is non-existent, but that is not to say that original “vanilla” balance is any better as many specs were simply not playable in vanilla.
Even if the current balance is non-existent, at least all specs have a shot at PVE contents.
You are always going to complain. There is always going to be a top class on the Sims. Why does balance matter so much to you the game wasn’t balanced in classic vanilla. You can clear the raids in full non meta raid groups. You just want to complain like usual.
SoD has been great…
It just the balancing issues that really needed addressing
A little more effort on the PVP side of things would have been great… as its the true endgame between content.
Itemization could have probably been addressed abit better… the gear from the raids was too good for its level… but I guess they needed a carrot so people would run the content.
SoD has shown that they could if they wanted to, drop the 3 spec system from wow… focus on a single spec that promotes class fantasy and use runes to determine if your a dps, healer or tank
The SoD team is a side project of the retail team. Actually classic in general has been but for vanilla and TBC they largely stuck to #nochanges but then we saw their lack of skill(or more accurately originality) in wrath when they started making changes.
I’m enjoying SoD along side other offerings but I’m not sure that even most other players want C+.
The vibe I’m getting is that players from all walks wanted something fresh but not necessarily Classic+.
The balance in the original game? Can you explain what balance your referring too? Moonkin ooming in seconds you mean? Or mages one shorting people. Or rogues stun locking you till you die.
The people on the staff don’t even know what the original cut content was. How were we supposed to expect all the unfinished content to be finished if it’s a bunch of new hires?
As someone that actually played boomy all of classic and classic TBC, I’d much rather the original than the clown-show that is SoD boomy.
I think the people that actually played classic and the non-meta classes were hoping they would add tweaks that raised the skill ceiling of classes, and all they’ve really done is add stuff that massively raised the skill floor.
The people that like it like it because its easy. The people that don’t like it don’t like it because its easy. Its its dismantled so much of what makes classic good and shown they don’t/didn’t have any understanding of those things.
Personally I think OP is right. SoD is fine for being SoD, but its not the classic+ the classic community wanted. Its just silliness catered to altaholic casuals that want to reroll to whatever’s flavor of the patch. Retail with extra steps.
This comment makes you pretty much lose all credibility. Vanilla WoW never had “class balance”. If you referring to PvP, it wasn’t until TBC that Blizzard started making changes toward class balance in PvP.
If you’re referring to PvE certain classes and specs dominated the ranks. Certain specs were almost impossible to level as (I’m looking at you boomies.) Certain classes were never picked (I’m looking at you shadow priest) and in all honesty, It’s just not good game design to have specs that are literally unplayable for a majority of the game. Wand spec is an absolute horrible class design. It was in 2004 and it still is in 2024.
TBC literally brought so many class changes and balancing it was truly refreshing. The devs literally enhanced each class and spec to be smarter. In vanilla, some things don’t make sense. Like why is insect swarm in the resto tree?
Personally, I feel like this smaller dev team has done an outstanding job with the resources they’ve been given.
Proven that the players want classic plus? I mean, it hasn’t proven much… but if they add new skills, dungeons, raids and dual spec… I’m all for classic+
the runes are the worst part, they are not balanced at all and have turned all classes into overtuned 1 button mashers.
all balancing could be better.
not when your player base is going to look back at sod next time they want to try something and say “lol remember sod? im not touching this with a 10 foot clown pole”
personally, and frankly I think i speak for a majority here, The team has left their original vision and messed it up bad as of phase 2.
