True to a certain point. But class composition in Arena was far more important than skill. Main problem with TBC Arena was that balancing took far too long (Holy Paladin was useless in 2’s/3’s for 3 seasons) and resilience proved far too effective on certain classes.
Problem with Vanilla was that it was a work in progress. The non-hybrid classes were balanced first (Warrior / Priest / Rogue / Mage). Hybrids were a complete afterthought that didn’t get much attention until TBC.
Problem with TBC is Blizzard started mucking around with the Vanilla formula. This includes flying mounts (killed wPvP), daily quests (to force people to log in), welfare badge epics (they thought casual = bad), 25 man raids (they thought ppl can’t organize themselves), resilience (broke certain specs).
I dont find 2v2 fights fun because it was a los war. I also found it ruined raiding for me since pvp didnt have any benefit from pve. I still like the wpvp over bgs. I find wpvp alot more interesting. Try getting a edge on the enemy. Bgs and arena are to much look up meta and repeat. There is no meta in wpvp. I really like the strategy and politics of wpvp. Bgs and arena just feel like crappy mobas.
See for me Wrath was about as good as it got. That’s not to say there aren’t some changes I would have made, but it was really the best melding for both hardcore and casuals alike.
For instance I would have made the initial heroic 5 mans harder, no tier gear on daily vendors, and would have changed locks on raiding so guilds weren’t running all 4 versions of a raid every week. Past that I think the only other real issue I had was ToC coming out too quickly and negating Uldum.
Playing classic made me want to play tbc even though I was satisfied that I never wanted to play tbc again because it got really boring near the end, kinda like how people stopped pvping in the world and in av when 1.12 came out but when pre patch was about to come out people started wpvping more scrambling for the rank they wanted then pre patch came out and wpvp was revived a long with av for some time.
It seems paid transfers and maybe cross realm bg caused my realm to die out a bit recently. So few people out there now, thought it was waiting for bwl until I heard people talking about paid xfering.
Kinda wished I pvp’d more without that stuff added, but something took up my time.
Tbc and wrath I would want to play day 1 as long as tbc was progressive and wrath doesn’t have the dungeon finder teleporter added. But blizzard will def add that like they added xrealm bg at the start instead of waiting til nax.
Flying mount didn’t kill wpvp that is a lie, tbc had wpvp everywhere you went including in azeorth. Flying actually made wpvp more unique except when people had 280 flying mounts then wpvp kinda sucked but hardly anyone had that and pvping on flying rocks above nagrand was the bomb and inside the naga, hellfire, dungeons every dungeon had pvp in front at summoning stone even raid instances.
To be fair to vanilla, this isnt how it was supposed to be. My experience getting to rank 10 in vanilla was playing WSG/AB all day with my premade, not AFKing AV. This version of AV existed for like a month before honor was removed. This is completely on blizzard for messing up.
True, I remember joining av all the time ques were way faster I believe then they were when 1.12 cross realm came out but before it came out there was so much more pvp from wolf masters to giants to enemy faction camping your cave where you start or your team camping them in theirs.
I don’t really understand why blizzard has to be dumb because they hate pvp, as they stated 1.12 is the better version balance etc they said which I disagree with what they said ti people asking for earlier version.
I mean they decided mount changes weren’t authentic enough do to how long they were out so why not reverse npc dps reduction at least or add more.
The 3 av I went though recently when I returned to classic, I didn’t see 15 horde afking in a cave yet most I have seen are probably 5 at most.
But I only been in 3 so far, and AV in 1.12 was probably the worst any bg as ever been. But then again more people are geared and well it is kinda impossible to kill people as a shadow priest when they are in groups do to mana issues. Or maybe its the premade issue.
Well my only hope is tbc for good AVs or less horde players or something, so that most people playing would be more tight nit.
as i said, I was 11 when i played classic, i spent a month in hillsbrad level 30-38 just sitting in the ogre area pvping with hardly any abilities trained because i kept spending gold on the biggest bulkiest shoulders i could find so i could attempt to look like i had rank 14 shoulders or tier 2.5 shoulders, as a kid i had no idea what went into the grind, shows alot about you to assume im outright lying though, nice one
