good point. hard to pinpoint who’s doing the DDOS attack and with some sore losers running about, i can see this being possible
The Hardcore servers should be pulled if theres an attack. The lack of rollback is insane.
Incredibly insane conspiracy theory with no evidence to support it lol
Blizzard should roll back the servers because it’s right. Letting the attackers get away with it is exactly what they want and will likely empower them to do it again. Not doing so will also kill HC servers, because if people can’t rely on the servers to function properly and they can’t rely on Blizzard to correct it when it happens, then there’s no point in playing it.
This is why most people don’t waste their time with HC anymore. idiots like this who think its acceptable to steal tens of thousands of combines hours, as well as thousands of $$, and then think it’s okay for blizzard to roll anything back. I wouldn’t be surprised with how many people unsub (it will happen)
They chose Hardcore and knew the risk. Blizzard been handling Hardcore that way ever since Diablo. Why change now? WoW is not a game made for hardcore in mind first of all.
This is the big problem of NOT doing a rollback in a situation like this. Fortunately this doesn’t apply to me personally, as I don’t play HC Classic, but if I did, why would I pay a subscription to play a game where my character can be randomly deleted at any time due to no fault of my own just because some kid halfway across the planet throws a tantrum?
And you can’t say “just be careful,” either. When the DDOS hit yesterday, I was in raids on my alts in retail. One of my alts died. One moment, fighting a boss, going as expected. Next moment, no buttons work, realize I DC’d, character is dead. The only answer would be to never raid, because you can’t predict when someone would do that. And if you never raid, but like to play for raids, you’re not playing on the server where that can happen anytime with no protection whatsoever.
This is overall bad for the game that they’re not doing this, and could potentially spell the end of HC servers…
I rem making a chr in D3 Hardcore. I thought it was a dumb idea, but … figured for me to really have an informed opinion about it, I needed to at least try it.
I actually had fun with it! And so I kept playing. And yeah… it was fun.
Until that day my internet just randomly started dropping packets. Just bad internet luck that everyone experiences at some time… and my chr died.
I can tell you now: if I had died because I overpulled, or I played a boss wrong, or any actual GAMEPLAY issue, I would have said my blessings to my poor dead chr, and immediately rerolled.
But because I died to just some random internet burp … I quit and never looked back. No way I’d ever touch such an OBVIOUSLY bad game design.
I’ll say it again: Hardcore should be about the GAME. Not the stability of the internet. And my previous post addresses how to fix that.
DDOS or you getting a power outage or Windows update messing you up? It’s all RNG. It doesn’t matter the reason. It says clearly nothing will be intervened on creation for an hardcore character. Get over it.
People accept the risks when those risks occur within the parameters of the game. Nobody accepted being DDoS’d and losing all of their progress as a risk. These are external factors people have no control over. To think this is just another facet of hardcore is full-on delusional lol
Yeah and again. What if you lost power in middle of a pull?
The lesson here is stop streaming your HC runs.
Do you think losing power is the same thing as someone intentionally disrupting gameplay lol
That has nothing to do with it.
See, situation there is level of the problem.
If I lose power, that’s a me problem.
If you lose power, that’s a you problem.
Me suffering consequences for a me problem is acceptable, just like you suffering consequences for a you problem is. (Questionable if it should exist in this context, but acceptable.)
The DDOS is not a me or you problem. It’s a Blizzard problem. Me suffering consequences for Blizzard’s problem in a game that I am PAYING Blizzard to play is not acceptable, ever.
Do you really believe because of HC all of WoW service got DDOS for real?
Oh boy, have fun simping for your esfand crusadee-strike boi.
Yeah I’ve dabbled in D3 hardcore a little too back in the past and can agree, the thrill is definitely there. The few times I had REALLY close calls and survived, and that adrenaline rush… There is really nothing quite like it playing normally.
Never invested a whole lot though because the more you put into it the more painful it would’ve been when the inevitable death happens.
I lost a poor wizard to Internet lagging out and yes it didn’t feel great, but what can you do Poor Wizbro may he forever rest in peace.
There’s none. It’s player choice.
Power outage, PC dying is one thing.
Put that on an online server on top of that. That’s an extra risk on top of the rest.
Unless my retail servers were going down due to some other incompetence on Blizzard’s fault, yes.
Either way, it’s still a Blizzard problem, not a me problem.
The agreement you pressed yes to says otherwise bud, lol.
Youd be surprised what trolls get off to just to mess over others. I wont say with 100% that it was a ddos against them but its also not entirely out of the realm of possibility seeing it happening every time they started streaming.
It also caused interrupted play in retail yesterday making many DC, been happening for a weke or two now.
It is was a ddos. But why exactly could be anyone’s guess… Blizzard needs to get some server protection.
