that wasn’t a server wide rollback which is something blizzard historically tends to refuse to do the last time this happened in classic blizzard also refused to do a rollback
That’s kinda always gonna be the case.
Rollback or not, Hardcore will always be a target because DDoS attacks lead to permanent loss of time over there.
Streamers just make it doubly so, because people want to see it on stream for their reactions and stuff.
Since there doesn’t seem to be any real security against these attacks, I 100% believe it’ll happen again, regardless of a rollback.
It’s making Hardcore really unattractive, lol.
It’s a shame, because the mode has innate appeal.
Unmitigated mental illness is my guess.
Well that’s why there should be rollback, no?
Remove the incentive for griefing and there’s less griefing?
I don’t.
I think it is pretty crappy of Blizzard not to take responsibility for failing to protect the players from malicious out-game attacks and instead reward the attackers for their actions by letting the consequences to the innocent players stand.
So, what about the prior times where DDoS has taken people’s characters? What about every time after this one? Do we start now because the streamers got killed? It’s online HC… these things happen and if you or anyone else can’t accept it, then HC shouldn’t be played by you or those people.
Because, you AGREED to the terms when you made your character. Don’t like it, don’t play hardcore?
“Customer Support will not resurrect dead Hardcore characters for any reason.”
ANY reason includes ddos.
Blizzard should roll it back and also change the mechanics so that it auto-logs out on dc or alt-f4.
Sure but they’re also going to lose most of the hardcore hype, so if killing the game mode and a lot of subs, twitch viewers, youtube views, and millions of free advertising is worth preserving their purity they can do it. Allowing this to pass will also drastically reduce the likelihood people play hardcore releases in the future. Why bother when Blizzard is too incompetent to stop malicious actors and won’t help you if you’re targeted? There probably won’t ever be a streamer event again if that’s true, which is bad for them.
It’s also an easy solution, you just make it auto-logout on dc like every serious hardcore game. Blizzard has been clinging to this outdated philosophy since D3 and it’s never been good.
That’s the nature of hardcore. I used to play it every day, till it started taking me 2 hours to do 5 quests. I’ve died to glitches, and DCs. And that’s the way it is. When you die, you’re dead. Under NO circumstance should there be a rollback or rez of ANY characters. Hardcore will die at some point, just like it’s name. If it dies off, then you won’t have to worry about the ddos attacks, since it’s not popular enough to get streamer attention. Think of this as a blessing.
That isn’t what a DDoS is lol.
No special favors for anyone period. I would never get the same courtesy why should anybody else? If anything, it would make people hate the streamers more if they got special treatment.
How does anyone really know the ddos was specifically targeting them anyways?
It’s hardcore you know what you signed up for.
Moreso giving a rollback or rez, even once, destroys the integrity of hardcore.
It’s obvious it was targeting them lol.
It started on the Firemaw pull and then a day later the moment they pulled Ebonroc.
No, this destroys the integrity of hardcore when you know that a guy with a laptop can kill your raid at any moment and the company running the server won’t do anything. Much worse than anything else.
That’s not proof of anything
The moment they do a rollback or rez is the moment it’s not hardcore anymore.
At least their souls will be pure while their playerbase goes to nothing. Allowing malicious actors to dictate when you can play is worse than any other precedent they would be setting.
This. Not doing a rollback gives malicious actors ALL the power. DDOS’s aren’t a once off exploit, if bad actors know there’s no recourse for them using them to grief others, they will not stop using them.
Now personally I don’t care about OnlyFangs, but streamers are always going to be targeted, it’s just the way that it is. But why play hardcore as a regular person when you know that at any time you might have dozens or hundreds of hours of effort deleted because someone wasn’t even aiming for you and you got caught in the crossfire?
NOT rolling back gives the DDOS’ers the full payoff that they were aiming for.
Yeah, I don’t care much about Onlyfangs but this also implies that everyone playing hardcore needs to follow Onlyfangs’ raid schedule or they might get killed in the collateral damage from Blizzard’s ongoing inaction. This leads to all kinds of ridiculous externalities allowing this to pass lol.
Online “Harcore” modes should have an infirmary/ hospital when you die.
First time you go, you’re in for 3 months.
Second time, 6 months.
Third time, 1 year. etc.
AND this system needs to include a way for the game developer (Blizzard), to “rush a doctor” to said hospital to revive anyone there as they see fit.
Meaning: if Blizzard can acknowledge on the login page that their servers are under as DDoS attack, then it’s unfair to have Hardcore chrs die.
Playing Hardcore mode should be against the GAME. Not the stability of the internet. That’s stupid.
