Me, health issues keeps me sitting here reading of the gnashing of teeth. Otherwise I’d be pissed. For many scheduling vacation is not easy to pull off. When I worked as a systems/network admin for various companies I was key to operations.

People take vacation for a video game release? And you have beta too? Wow.
What nightmare organization/company do you work for that requires such a significant vacation submittal and/or doesn’t allow you to cancel the vacation for time back?
my “vacation” is whenever I get off work, kids in bed, dog went pee, cat got pampered, dishes done, and I ain’t gotta be in at work 4 AM
I can reschedule the time off so no biggie. Nice to see them buck up and don’t be right thing.
yep, bunch of my friends do the same they take 1 or 3 days vacations to play the game, one of them, flew his family to Miami and and stay home, he didn’t wanted to be disturb LOL
Use your PTO to check out other games like ESO or FF14. Perfect time now.
Working in payroll, people schedule and cancel vacations all the time. Rescinding vacation time is not hard, no matter where you work. (I will say that in some industries, SCHEDULING vacation can be difficult… but cancelling vacation is never hard.)
if your a teacher. you need to give up your first born just to take a week they also dont let you take a week near holidays.
I have been the systems admin for a cable provider, govt office, military contractor, etc. If you have a 1,000 user plus central office and the infrastructure is very critical you never get to be away. Even on vacation.
I always had a laptop with me, even on a river trip, with a way to connect to the office. When you are THE guy for the network infrastructure, virtualization, etc, etc you have to be available 24/7.
Edit: When I took vacation a lot of people had to plan around me. Developers, contractors, you name it. Back when I could breath better I was of some relative importance. Shrug. So my vacation had to be planned well in advance.
I could drop them off at DG for 20 minutes. Just enough time to Q for LFR
these same people that take vacations to level up in a couple of days are the same to complain when they hit the max lv

Yeah, some of us have fun doing that. And before everyone insists we shouldn’t have assumed the date was solid – I have never had to reschedule time off for a WoW release before. Until now, once they announce, it’s good to go. I don’t know why they so seriously jumped the gun on this one but I was very worried they were.

the block of time I used has to very specifically be used as a block, before november 1, and has to be scheduled well in advance. I was originally going to use the time on a vacation with my parents, but Covid stopped that, then I decided to use it for launch…but didn’t have a date. pushed the envelope waiting for a launch date, I don’t think my employer will let me reschedule it, but I’m going to try.

We’ve known for a while that beta was a mess. they could have made this announcement weeks ago and given those of us who did plan, more time to make adjustments.
There are some organizations that have bureaucratic processes that make it difficult to cancel or reschedule vacation. However I would imagine that this time of year would be easier to reschedule than in the middle of summer or at Christmas.
Would it surprise you that I had not scheduled yet? I know I said I was going to. I didn’t get around to it yet. Been on a huge project with time sensitive deadlines. That is my excuse for not schedualing yet! hehe
I was on a 1on1 call with my manager that I was going to tell him about taking time off and then the news broke. lol
