why every one assume that for some one else is easy to fix their vacation time?
-Was in a company i asked for vacations to visit a family member with a new born, responds “we need you for …you take the vacation later in …”
-Another company with Unlimited vacation days… but so many rules… cant be between this days, have to notify 60 days before etc… etc…
other people make plans around some ones vacations, doesn’t matter what’s the reason why some one want a vacation, is personal and each decide when
Getting close to the end of the year, a lot of companies aren’t going to be able to accommodate vacation due to seasonal volumes. Not to mention having to have the time available if others in your work group have already scheduled it with that being close to the holidays.
I was running the risk of losing vacation time because I rarely go on vacations. Now I have a week off and I’m debating if I want to keep or push it back. On the one hand, I still have nearly 60 hours of vacation banked. On the other hand, I’m not sure what I can do for a week.
Why take time off for release when the content isn’t going anywhere, and the release week is the buggiest high queue filled week out of all of the two years the expansion will be out?
You know what you’ll miss? Sitting in queue, being booted and going back in queue, and the server crashing because lolsec or some other hacking group has a hair up their rear and are DDOSing the servers.
Maybe you’re new, but trust it from someone who played every launch except the first and second, you aren’t missing anything.
I’m very worried this is going to land the release in the middle of Christmas… In which case there will be lots of problems for me.
Because some of us need to be ready to rejoin our raid groups instead of losing our spot in the group to someone else who WAS ready in time? And it’s fun? Nothing like everyone in Disc in new content for the first time!!!
You don’t need to take a ton of time off for that. Unless you work a job that outright keeps you out of home for extended periods of time like trucking you can just play when you get home. I’ll admit it wouldn’t be as fun not plowing through with your buds, however depending on your timezone you can get a ton done on the first night and come back after work the next day.
Working in Human Resources, it’s the end of the year and so rescinding vacation time near the end of the year IS hard. These are months that have already been pre-scheduled long in advance. Everyone who got their December dates denied because of crowded PTO use them in November. I love this 3head take on how scheduling works. “I work in payroll so clearly I know how requesting PTO works.”
There would be the more important point. Launches are a social thing for myself and others who get together for the shared experience. Which doesn’t happen when “Gotta go to bed guys so I can be at work at 6am…”
I just don’t get all the people harping on those who take time off for an expansion launch. Fine. You don’t want to, or can’t, or don’t have friends who care, whatever… you do you. But even my mother understands expansion releases come about once every two years and if I can’t take a week off for personal reasons once every two years then I have a BIG life problem which has nothing to do with me playing a video game.
Canceling isn’t my problem, rescheduling is. I managed to convince day shift to swap to evenings for a week and cover me so I could take the whole week off. I’m just going to keep it and go on a trip instead. But I am extremely, extremely salty.
A large part of the fun for me was the mayhem of release. It’s like jostling for flatscreen TV’s on black friday. Out of my way dammit, that quest mob is mine…!
I work for thr Department of Justice and Regulation and do shift work. We have blackout days from Nov - December due to christmas period. If i book time off HR hasto cover me with someone else.
I can no longer book leave and MIGHT get my leave back for thr 27th and 28th of October.
I don’t think anyone can deny that SL needs more time. What is frustrating though is that they should’ve known this based on Alpha/early Beta before announcing a release date at all, and erred on the side of caution with a later date than October. The outrage around having scheduled time off etc is completely justified in my opinion, they should have planned the launch for first week of December at the earliest from the start.
When I got beta at the beginning of August I felt that there was not enough time to have a polished product before November.
