Has something with the ToS changed? I wonder how many Blizzard employees are involved with these.
There is some unspoken collusion with some of the big named ones (rested/zygo) regarding affiliate links that give direct money for some of the notable content creators, many of which have direct links with some of the community managers/developers.
Its clear that, similar to the rampant RMT shenanigans that breeds botting (or is that a chicken/egg analogy?), Blizzard does a “three wise monkeys” approach to these parts of their ToS.
Any question about how they’re getting past ToS has been dodged by their team on their Discords.
RestedXP gets around it by being downloadable and walling off the main features until you pay. Fojji gets around it because he is selling Weakaura code for people too lazy to make them.
This, I genuinely have no idea. Do they think “Early Access” (Which they’ve had another paid addons for other games sitting in for months with no sign of leaving $25/Month “Early Access”) is a way around the TOS? Because it shouldn’t be. I just don’t have faith that anyone at Blizzard remotely cares about it anymore.
Restedxp is actually breaking ToS also
Here’s the flip side. If they don’t charge the money for them, they probably don’t make them.
They also curtail the whole “add-ons must be free” by the primary addon being free. It’s just an secondary addon for the primary addon you’re purchasing.
Can you even read. Look at what I just linked again.
Sure hope blizz shuts this addon down
I read what you linked, I’m just telling you how they circumvent the “add-ons must be free”.
I think Blizzard doesn’t care because again, if they did police these folks those addons just wouldn’t exist.
It literally states that premium versions etc can’t charge a fee, addons can’t have any paid components period.
Also the WCL addon already existed from a 3rd party. WCL made curse remove it, but blizz didn’t ban it so it can still be used atm.
I can read. I also know that addon developers can have money donated to them.
Do you see how this could create a conflict of interest should they say “No you can’t charge” versus “You can ask for donations”?
Blizzard has drawn the line at “You can’t charge someone to download your addon and it still needs to work for the most part without charging.”
Do you see how you’re constantly moving the goal post because you were wrong and don’t want to admit it?
I mean do you have any examples of Blizzard following their ToS/EULA consistently while handing out punitive measures to those that violate them?
It’s not a binding law we agree to while playing this game. Blizzard can kind of wheel and deal punishments as they deem fit.
That’s not what the ToS say.
This is true though. Blizz can act or not. Just shows their integrity is crapfull.
Yes I agree. And I see you read my follow up too!
I’m pretty sure most the news/websites break ToS in a way too. It’s a pretty ambiguous document so that if they want to remove someone they have verbiage that more than likely covers something the player has done at one point or another.
I wonder what the ToS would say if an addon developer, like RestedXP, instead of charging folks put ads into their addon? Obviously it would be a turn off to players but I wonder if it actually breaks ToS.
Blizzard probably laid off the people who were in charge of addon management enforcement in a mass lay off and forgot to hire back anyone to do the job.
They’re not really charging for the addon as it’s in Alpha and it seems to have all intentions of being free eventually.
If they don’t intend on it to be free, how much time is this addon saving me from just lookin on my other monitor with the Logs Companion app (which is required for the addon I believe).
It causes a fair amount of traffic to their website so I believe they’re making sure it’s not going to crash the place when it’s released to the masses.
It really comes down to whether streamers are earning kickbacks for recommending the addon.
If Archon are smart they’ll start those affiliate links ASAP and engage streamer protection mode, otherwise they’ll be banned quick smart.
What about questions in blizzard’s customer service forum? Has Blizzard responded to inquiries at all?
RestedXP is against the ToS but blizzard just doesn’t care anymore hell they don’t even care about the game anymore they got peoples money that’s all they care about.
Blizzard and WCL are complicit in their effort to siphon wealth away from Microsoft’s shareholders.
Shareholders paid for this data and blizzard is allowing it to be openly stolen for the profit of another.
Blizzard and Microsoft have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders, which includes many of you. When they get a incorporated they are agreeing to represent shareholder interests.
The one interest all shareholders have in common is our interest to increase our value.
Giving data to WCL so they can sell premium subscriptions for $25 is of no interest to a Microsoft shareholder.
TLDR: This is a violation of Blizzard and Microsoft’s fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders
