I think mob scaling ruins the sense of progression and makes the world dull

I am going to try to keep this brief while trying to get people to see this from my perspective, even if you may disagree with me.

It completely takes away from any sort of feeling of progression. You don’t get a sense of accomplishment from finishing a zone and being ready to move onto the next zone. You can have scaling in Chromie time and have it be good everywhere else. I feel that even in DF that the enemies scaling with your level and worse, ilvl is really really bad and takes away from ANY reason to get better gear even. I think it is simply lazy programming and gives them no reason to put in the effort anymore. Worst of all it is BORING! Leveling no longer feels like it means anything, so why even have levels and ilvl gear to earn? Just make the game a whole cinematic! One super long movie where I have to staple my eyelids open to watch! Let’s all sit on a merry go round and sing songs!

I have more fun playing classic than I ever do with this.

I hate mob scaling.

I don’t want/need to feel like a nigh invincible demigod in current content, but I love it in old content.

It can be as simple as just giving stronger mobs that are impossible in the world. You don’t need scaling for that. Also you can disable scaling until you reach max level then have all the mobs switch to level 70 at the very end. Disabling ilvl scaling of world mobs needs to end asap though.

GW2 does it perfectly. It may reduce you to the mobs level but you can still burn them away like nothing. WoW of similar though scaling seems a bit off sometimes.

I played through GW2 and while it was fine, I hated it there too. It is lazy programming because devs dont want to put the effort in anymore.

I agree. One of the big downfalls of modern WoW was the scaling of open world mobs.

Having actual DANGER ZONES that were out of your level range was awesome.

The flip side of being able to easily go through lower leveled old content areas was also FUN.

I had a ton of fun murdering hordes of lowbie mobs just for the giggles of it. Blizzard needs to rethink their strategy with wow. I mean theres a lot of things I can take and just move past mentally. But mob scaling is where I feel the game needs to be reworked to be more like it was. It feels so wrong seeing level 70 boars in elwynn forest.

I can’t disagree with you there.

I remember being brand new and flying over the Searing Gorge on my way to Stormwind and seeing all the level ?? monsters below me, wondering just what they were.

Also remember being in Elwynn Forest and seeing a mean level ?? wolf on the other side of the river in Duskwood.

While I don’t wanna see a world where we outlevel a zone and are forced to leave, it was cool to see zones that were just too dangerous to go to until you leveled up some more.

YES

Enter Ghostlands, stay in the lv9-10 zone and being afraid of the last part with lvl 17-20 mobs

There was real progression, once you get back in a old zone you felt strong, i miss that.
Now every wolf or pig follows you until level 60

And we had that back in vanilla, bc, and wotlk. It was cata that kind of ruined things but you could still finish up if you wanted to. It got worse as time went on. They need to substantially slow the experience rate down by like 800% or more.

You don’t.

They cap at 30.

there shouldn’t be a cap, it should just be the way it should be. The point is this ruins the entire experience of playing wow. It used to be a time sink that took effort and it was so fun for it. Now its like “world of disneycraft where you are along for this ride you have no control over” There is no sense of wonder when everything is your level.

Make scaling optional.

If people want to slog through trash mobs in the open world to get anything done, let them turn that on.

Let the rest of us get stronger in the open world like we did for most of the game’s life, though.

I find the complete opposite.

I find it satisfying that the monsters that I fight are always on par with me, because they should be. If anything I find it more immersive, after all something as dangerous as a dragon should always be dangerous. Having a dragon fall in 2-3 hits because you outlevel it is actually more immersion breaking and pointless than actually feeling like you’re actually having a decent fight because it scales.

I hated being in a zone and having all the mobs go grey before I could finish the zone though.

I don’t mind there being zones I can’t level in yet because mobs are too high, but I hated them going grey.

It makes more sense in the casual sense, with so many expansions, the scaling makes sense so you can progress through it at your pace.

Outleveling creatures is all well and good, but it just feels weird for me

I’m ok with mobs scaling with you while you level so you don’t have to leave zones before you finish them, but once you cap, the mobs should stop scaling right there. None of this ilvl scaling BS. Honestly, even at 364 ilvl right now, mobs feel no different than they did when I first capped, and I think, have I made any real progress or is it all pointless.

I like enough scaling that the world remains believable and engaging, but not so much that every encounter is a chore. Now that I’m ilvl 379 it feels just right.
Weak enemies die quickly, I can take on many quest elites with no problem as long as I’m skilled, and very elite enemies still require help.

I would like this as an option for the whole world, really.

I’ve felt this way since it has been introduced.
