I think M+ only appeals to small segment of the player base

It gets boring for me fairly quick. I can only run the same dungeons so many times. Throw in that they are designed to be cancerous and that doesn’t really increase their appeal to me.

I enjoyed M+ when it first came out, but now that it’s basically required to raid, not so much.

I hope I’m not the only one that thinks it’s funny how the conversation has shifted from “very few people play M+” to “think of the poor Mythic raiders”

If blizzard removed raid lockouts and let you reclear for loot this wouldn’t be an issue.

They could easily timegate cap the ilvl of drops directly, instead of putting you into weekly loot timeout where you sit doing nothing until next week. Also would wholly solve the “burned lockout because someone left” problem that ruins raiding for a good chunk of players.

That’s because no one actually believed that a few people play M+.

proceeds to post statistics showcasing that M+ has only increased in popularity over the years

Honestly, its just the toxic people.

Oh, and timers. People hate the timers and key depletion, which also breeds the toxicity.

Once the parade of people who hate M+ starts up - and it’s a pretty long parade - raiders are going to march by, eventually.

Its pretty clear which would win if players had to pick one or the other. Large group raiding as a concept was great in 2007, less so in 2024. Would not be surprised at either 10 man Mythic or Flex Mythic in the future.

Fated seasons fall off because most of the people going for rewards got them from the previous seasons. Overall, Mythic Plus has gained more popularity over time if you compare how many people did challenge modes to how many people do Mythic Plus.

That isn’t what the data shows at all. I think M+ has dropped in popularity quite a bit since it’s original form in Legion

Except it is what the data shows.

Got the data for Legion and BFA? Because you’re SL compared to DF ones already shows there was an increase in popularity, not a decrease. SL has lower percentages.

Raiding and now M+ is literally all WoW is known for. Go play GW2 or something.

There were far more subs in SL than DF. you can look at the leaked GDC chart if you would like.

Saying that the sub decline during Shadowlands was because of M+ and not the other major systems is an insane reach.

If its the same chart I’m thinking of, Shadowlands dips way lower than Dragonflight did. But its also being padded by the classic releases. So theres no way to compare the 2 expansions.

Dragonflight Season 4: 11,212,674
Dragonflight Season 3: 34,423,207
Dragonflight Season 2: 27,230,415
Dragonflight Season 1: 36,259,005

Shadowlands Season 4: 9,683,754
Shadowlands Season 3: 19,755,846
Shadowlands Season 2: 20,257,547
Shadowlands Season 1: 16,311,634

Battle for Azeroth Season 4: 29,679,366
Battle for Azeroth Season 3: 13,671,797
Battle for Azeroth Season 2: 13,253,349
Battle for Azeroth Season 1: 13,425,411

Legion 7.3.2: 12,117,094
Legion 7.3: 4,201,561
Legion 7.2.5: 3,978,937
Legion 7.2: 3,342,641

Your opinion is objectively wrong.

Personally liking M+ is expansion dependent. In Legion I couldn’t stop doing it. In BFA it was annoying. King’s Rest, Siege and Tol Dagor were annoying. Hated it in Shadowlands. Liked it in DF, but I skipped season 1 and barely played 4 because DF dungeons aren’t good.

DF dungeons are giant walking simulators or flight simulators, especially Dawn. Dawn had like 15 minutes of pure travel time between the portals and gates and RP.

It looks like I will enjoy M+ in TWW so far because the dungeons are more compact and fluid, exception being City of Threads. That dungeon is going to own me in keys.

If the percentage of active players engaging in Mythic plus goes up, it is either a matter of more people doing it or more people who weren’t doing it leaving.

The end result is that the percentage of players playing the game engaging in Mythic plus goes up, which by default means it is more popular with the current player base regardless of the total signs of the player base changing. If we lost a million players and Mythic plus percentage went down, that means more players who did Mythic plus quit than the players who didn’t so even using a declining population as an example, the data would show more people staying because of Mythic plus then leaving because of Mythic plus.
