I think I know what the problem is (PVP)

Hey guys!

First, I want to start off saying I’m no “pro” to PVP.

My highest = 2200+ but that’s been pretty much every season since Lich King (long time player)

Now, I started this game in my Teens (Vanilla) and now I’m 32 years old, 3 kids, and responsibilities.

I’ve noticed the last couple expansions especially, PVP skill-cap, has gone up drastically. I don’t think it’s due to the game getting harder? I believe it’s due to the scene getting smaller, leaving only the die hards. This makes it extremely hard for anyone new to enter it’s almost become a gate-kept game mode.

I also want to point out the issue of exhaustion. I play games (I’m sure many others also) to escape stress, link up with friends, and just have a good time. I LOVE competition don’t get me wrong but when every game feels like an AWC match, it’s super exhausting.

I’m not entirely sure what the solution is? I know people have mentioned PVP needing a restructuring which potentially could work? All I know is I think it’s vital to the game to have a gradual pacing of skill climbing… If this was MMA, you wouldn’t throw an Amateur in with a Pro especially, if it’s their first fight xD What would be the outcome? Dude would get crushed and never want to compete afterwards… I feel like that’s the exact issue we’re having in PVP.

Yeah, that’s why shuffle and blitz are popular.

2s and 3s are harder and less rewarding (not to mention less available and convenient as you require 1-2 partners) which scares people away and further compounds the issue.

I play games to own noobs and winning validates my existence

Q up

This but unironically.

Yeah I agree but then you have the issue of people just saying those game-modes are “handouts” or “participation trophies” which no one likes to hear.

I think people want to play 2’s and 3’s but to your point they’re fun but not rewarding enough to tackle the stress.

Some people can’t handle the truth.

The social thing is also hard because it’s either coordinating with people what time you’ll be around assuming you have compatible people or languishing in lfg which is kind of exhausting relative to just pressing a button and sitting a queue.

Bro the amount of times I find someone to que, SLAY HARD, ask to partner, only to find them queing with rando’s… It’s the new World bro. People can’t stay focused for longer than 10 seconds, and no one values anyone anymore xD

The problem is we’re playing a niche mode in a game designed for pve. That’s the real issue.

You cant say you love competition and then complain ranked pvp is “too serious” or “sweaty”. Thats the entire point of ranked modes

Modifiers on modifiers pos mess of a game
Tanks take 50% more damage
slam damage in PvP is like 3x pve damage right now
nuke drop modifiers then start again imho

This panda knows a thing or two. And they’re fat.

Is rotund a better word? :dracthyr_sweat:

I know what the problem is, its getting people to open their wallets and join the time sink known as WoW, and as that player base grows, so increases the lil mini game inside of wow aka PVP.

The story for a “modern audience” stinks, and the game play that has worked for generations now is just not cutting it. More players leaving than joining.

I dont see players signing up for your mandatory 40 keybinds, 20 mandatory 3rd party addons, and 20 years of bloat. Its just not happening… Catering to the elite is killing the game, and YES, you folks still playing today are the sweats, because everyone aka the player base is long gone.

And yet here you are replying with an active subscription…

I think the big problem is everyone thinks they are a glad… and leave after 1 loss in LFG.

Well, one of the things I’ve seen lately w/ re: to pvp in big battles–this week South Shore vs Tauren Mill is included here–is the fights, when they are not roflstomps can be kinda brutal. They can be really long, intense, and not clear at all who will win. Both sides just pouring it in. Sometimes, if I end up a healer, I’m drinking many times, just dumping mana into health.

Frankly, it’s kinda eye opening and refreshing and a lot of fun win or lose. I’m not sure what this is…maybe it’s premades going head to head? But, wow, talk about some intense big fights.

Also, I don’t know if I agree with the no one is playing pvp, because the Q’s I see are <5 min all day, every day. Horde is less, usually < 3 min, but is also losing a bit more lately. At least that has been my solo Q experiences for a bit now.

Anyway, wanted to note that I’m seeing some pretty intense fights as well.

Way too much micro CC. One interrupt and one stun per class/spec. Or substitute something in their place such as replace interrupt with knock back.

I know most of the CC is designed around pve stuff but it has become insane with PvP. I really wish there were another way to make CC better in PvP.

One thing would be to stop letting sheep/cyclone be spammable. Super annoying

Not originally. PVP was the most popular mode pre-legion.

Except it’s not the same game play.
