I really miss Shadowlands (not joking)

Shadowlands was okay and if you liked it thats fine. I think a lot of the hate it gets is because the playerbase holds Blizzard to a higher standard, and where other companies might slide with some of this its not okay for Blizzard to do.

I loved Torghast - but many classes struggled to solo it throughout the expansion, and relatively few people wanted to group up for it. Making it mandatory for progession instead of an alternate progression path was a huge mistake. The concept could have become central to a healthy solo player pillar for expansions to come. That said, I think I may have enjoyed the Visions from the end of BfA more.

The Maw was mechanically poorly designed, until we destroyed the Jailer’s Eye. That whole thing was basically a system straight out of a bad mobile game but without the extra predatory “buy more energy!” option tacked on.

Korthia was forgettable in basically every respect.

Zereth Mortis was pretty cool, no real complaints there. If Korthia is the worst Timeless Isle type zone, then ZM is one of the better ones.

Covenants probably wouldn’t be thought of so poorly if the anima farm hadn’t been so brutal early on. I understand that they were trying to show the anima drought as well as tell, but they didn’t stick the landing on that at all. I am convinced that the main reason so many people quit during Shadowlands was the anima farming.

The dungeons were all pretty fun. I dont think I’ve actively disliked any dungeons since at least WoD though, so I might just be easy to please there.

For zone themeing… honestly, I didn’t really love any of them, but I didn’t hate them either. My favorite zone in the entire game, for reference, is Drustvar, and I would say nothing in SL came close to it. I could take an entire expansion of just Drustvar. I’m not really interested in, say, an entire expansion of Bastion.

The overall story was… bad. Entire novels have been written about this at this point, and my complaints are covered in at least some of them, so no need to dwell on it.

I won’t comment on the raids; for reasons unrelated to WoW I basically didn’t do them. The aesthetics of most of the sets are outstanding though, and I will definitely be going back to farm several of them once they become soloable.

Obligatory “they didn’t bring Gladiator back for warriors so the whole xpac was a waste” goes here.

I strongly disagree on your takes with SoD (which I found to be among the bottom three raids they’ve EVER designed) and Choreghast. Other than that - Shadowlands was fine (C/C-)

It might sound weird but I had more people to play with in Shadowlands. The two guilds I played with bounced off of DF by the second week.

Because it was bad and it literally caused a mass exodus of players from this game. This is an MMO, it needs players and when this drops the quality of the experience drops. Out of millions of people there are bound to be people who like SL but at thee end of the day the vast majority dont agree.

If you separate the SoD system we got from the actual raid you’re looking at another great raid for the history books.

But you can’t separate that. That wasnt the experience we got.

It wasnt deep at all and was just another borrowed power system that no one likes.

Good rewards, good gameplay ideas and a good addition to the game and I hope we see something like it come back but better. Its WoW x Roguelike. But the EXECUTION , which matters the most, was terrible. They took a good idea and baked in MANDATORY time gated factors into it that punished your character for not doing it every week - Not everyone wanted to be forced to do it. Not every class had a easy time soloing it early in the game.

Dragonflight has done the same thing and is constantly adding more just months after coming out - This would take old Blizzard 1-2 years to do lol.

This just feels like youre running out of things to say lmao.

This is why people think youre a troll lmao. Legion had a great theme and story but was the start of Blizzard adding in TERRIBLE mechanics to force players to stay subbed. Legion BFA and Shadowlands was the holy trinity of bad game mechanics and design that pushed players away.

Nice.

It wasnt our fault Shadowlands was bad. It was Shadowlands’ fault for being bad and people, in the hundreds of thousands, left the game and are most likely never coming back due to FFXIV and other MMO’s keeping them.

Tbh, glad you’re gone. 1 Less person to steer BLizz in a bad direction.

There’s the door.

Get out and never return.
