Covenants being all about what simmed best to the majority was to be expected, but the huge level of difference between the best and worst for your spec was squarely on Blizz.
Torghast was cool at first, but quickly became tedious. Tying the only way to progress your character to it was BS.
The Maw, and the story? Lol, yeah.
The zone questing was good, and CN was great. Good mogs, mounts, and toys.
Everything else was meh. That’s why I left 3 months in, and just resubbed at Christmas this year.
These are my opinions. I fully acknowledge that. But I’m as entitled to them as you are to yours.
When I did chromie time in Shadowlands I was blown away by how many people are actually there. Maybe there are way more people that do not buy the latest expac than I thought. Who knows but Oribos was packed, so was bastion and maldraxxus haven’t done the other zones yet in chromie time.
They were meh, really. Only Bastion and Ardenweald looked good (/opinion), Maldraxxus sucked, Revendreth sucked a little less.
Only 1 option for player power, and 2 for aesthetic, plus all the busywork associated with AP farming (for the third time, but now it was a humongous amount of anima power, and it was needed for every freaking thing instead of pure player power. What a terrible idea.)
Agreed, but the execution…
The “depth” was really shallow other than the need to farm/grind counduit powers.
It was crap in comparison to the thing that originated all this (Artifact Weapons).
Torghast was the epitome of “lost potential”. It should have been the ultimate source of gear for the solo player. Instead it was way too long and gave terrible rewards per time invested.
I can’t comment on 9.1 or 9.2 aspects because i quit after capping Venthyr renown on my hunter in 9.0. Had no desire on doing all that for the other 3.
That said, since I returned just prior to DF, ZM looked like it was a blast, and I gotta visit Tazavesh still for the silent mount.
10.0.0-10.0.7 DF has been a much better (and hugely alt-friendlier) experience than 9.0.
Legion was much better than anything after it by miles due to class halls and their unique aesthetics/plotlines + artifact weapons.
What depth?
Like, seriously, what depth was there?
Shadowlands was actually pretty solid (not counting that insult to literature they dared to call a “story”) at launch though.
Then 9.0 lasted 8 months.
Then 9.1 released as a nearly unplayable mess and drastically changed my opinion of the expansion.
9.2 was incomprehensible but understandable.
They could have done so much more I agree. But I really had some fun there.
I agree with this.
But in a way I felt Shadowlands was alt friendly too if you weren’t raiding etc…
There was way more to do on alts and stuff you could see you couldn’t on your main.
Just leveling characters to see how they are in torghast during torghast leveling weeks was a blast for me.
But when I chased the gear grind and power grind I wasn’t happy. So I know how people feel. When I took my playtime down to casual with Shadowlands the expansion offered a lot more fun.
The fact that you could go a different route with every character.
Experience new covenant stories. conduits. torghast gameplay styles.
All different across different characters alone made the expansion more fun to me. That alone brings more depth.
I don’t follow meta cookie cutter specs anymore, I choose what I had fun. And when I did that in Slands it made the expansion so much more enjoyable.
