I really enjoy Survival

Then why keep it melee if it’s only 2 abilities?

This is why you should beware trying to downplay the melee status of SV.

Well to be fair hardly anyone at all was asking for melee Hunter before Legion yet all it took was for a few newer faces in the class design team that happened to really want it and that’s what we got. So SV Hunters being worried that a new shake-up in class design could result in a ranged direction for SV is valid.

Huh, maybe they shouldn’t have made a Hunter spec melee, then.

You think it’s great because you’re a Warrior. It’s your comfort zone. You’re not looking for a Hunter, you’re just looking for a 3rd Warrior DPS spec.

They wouldn’t have to do that if they were ranged.

Why’s it cool? I can fight in melee range as BM or MM. So why do we need a spec that is limited to melee range?

The explosives are the most interesting and distinct part of the spec; plus the part that best fits the Hunter archetype (besides the pets, but that’s mostly just copied from BM).

Again the reason you think it doesn’t fit well is because you’re subconsiously envisioning a Warrior spec instead of a Hunter spec, and explosives don’t fit Warriors.

For DKs those specs were both tanking and DPS at the same time, and that was changed entirely out of necessity. Combining two roles in one spec doesn’t work. This is also why they separated Feral into two specs. There was no such necessity for SV.

I mean, why keep BM ranged if it’s effectively melee already?

Yes they would lol. Look at BM/MM right now.

Why have any spec limited to melee range?

But that person said RSV was one of the few specs ever removed from the game. That’s not true.

  • Tank FDK
  • DPS Blood
  • DW Unholy
  • Combat Rogue
  • Glad Warrior
  • Pre Legion Demo
  • Legion Demo
  • Legion Shadow
  • Legion SV
  • BfA Shadow
  • SL Shadow
  • Pre DF Balance
  • Dragonflight 10.0 Shadow

All of these are remarkably different specs than the current iteration and are just as “valid” of a removed spec of RSV. Just because the “range role” is different doesn’t mean it’s any less valid

Because being ranged is an important core tenet of the class.

One well-represented and one moderately-represented spec.

For some classes it makes sense from a fantasy standpoint.

Out of necessity, plus those specs represented both roles. DPS FDK and Tank Blood stayed.

None are comparable examples since they maintained the same role and basic fantasy.

The closest example is Demonology which changed entirely in Legion (for many of the same fallacious reasons as SV, and with many of the same negative effects), but even that kept the same role.

Do you know how to argue in any mode other than deflection and false equivalency? It’s very predictable at this point.

According to you, anyway. Pet is probably more important.

Yet in very dire situations. Average DPS, no real reason to bring it over an extra Evoker? you think this somehow wouldn’t apply to RSV?

You said SV shouldn’t stay melee because it has 2 melee abilities (not accurate). Why should Enhancement stay melee? It only has two melee abilities. What about Outlaw? Or Unholy? Those also have very low quantity of melee abilities.

MSV is a valid class fantasy, therefore it should stay. Maybe you can start asking for a 4th spec full time?

But your whole point is the “role” being removed. FDK Tank is removed.

SV maintained the same “role” as DPS.

Do you know how to argue in anyway other than moving the goal post? How is Combat Rogue the same fantasy as Outlaw?

You’re effectively saying “well no these other removed specs don’t count because they have the same “role” and by “role” I mean ranged.” Why is a drastically different gameplay loop less valid if the spec maintained the same range role? That seems really finnicky for it to only count as a spec removal if the range changed.

Thankfully, Ion is quoted as saying a spec’s role will never change again, so we don’t have to worry about this

Never understood why people should be fearful that some random people on the forums don’t like X, so blizz is now going to remove X. Like what I am supposed to be worried about exactly?

My fear is someone in the class design department not liking MSV, then and only then could I see MSV going away. But as you said I don’t think that is the case. Granted I don’t work for blizz nor do I have any “insider” knowledge but MSV being a thing since 2016 leads me to believe that someone in class design believes MSV is working.

Do yourself a favor then… Don’t read the forums or at least change your perspective before doing so as it can be a bit toxic to the mind and can influence your perception. There are folks that hate it and are very vocal about it – which is normal. There’s plenty that love it and are rarely vocal about it – which is also normal.

If you enjoy it, play it… There are ~50 specs in the game, hopefully one for everyone to have fun with. Play what you want and enjoy it but don’t worry about all of the noise. Everyone has an opinion and some feel like sharing it more than others.

Because it really, truly is a hybrid spec. Which is awesome and different and exciting!

It’s as hybrid as Enhancement or Unholy :stuck_out_tongue:

It just clicks, hard to say why. I pretty much only play melee, but Survival is the best for me. Part of it comes from it’s damage profile being very smooth with no HUGE peaks and valleys, which makes it more forgiving if you mess up. Not like Frost DK for example, where if you mess up a Pillar of Frost cooldown you are just hopelessly behind for the rest of an encounter. You’re pretty much always putting out consistent damage throughout a fight outside of Coordinated Assault, which increases your damage a bit (in ST).

I like 2h weapons, I like being mobile both in and out of combat. Your pet will tank mobs for you which is really nice when soloing rares (it’s a little harder with the mend pet nerf, but in Shadowlands you could solo a ton of the rares with your pet as the tank.

Turtle is an incredible defensive, and Exhilaration is a really nice high uptime “oh dang” button. It’s a simple rotation, but very fast paced.

Sure, but that wasn’t a spec, just a talent for prot warriors. Nor did it actually change a whole lot in terms of gameplay.

Gladiator’s Resolve

  • Level 100 Protection warrior talent
  • Passive
  • Increases the damage reduction provided by Defensive Stance by 5%.
Also allows you to forgo your defensive role, and instead focus only on offensive capabilities, by replacing Battle Stance with Gladiator Stance.
  • Gladiator Stance
    A dauntless combat stance.
Increases physical damage dealt by 5%, increases Mastery by 50%, and replaces your Shield Block with Shield Charge.
You cannot change into or out of this stance during combat.

Shield Charge

  • 10 yd range

  • 15 sec cooldown

  • 20 Rage

  • Instant

  • Requires Shields

  • Raise your shield and charge a short distance to your target, increasing the damage of Shield Slam, Revenge, and Heroic Strike by 25% for 7 sec.

Maximum 2 charges.

Not sure what you mean with “tweaks” but allowing for sub-specs within for example tank spec trees, to allow them to essentially become dps, that’d present many of the same issues as we saw with Feral prior to MoP, when they decided to split it into 2 specs.

So? Class fantasy is very important to you. Surely you can understand why someone would miss this unique fantasy

You said it was only commonly played during periods(the ones I mentioned) due to performance yet, again, even at times when performance numbers showed that other specs were better, many(more) people still picked it over the one that was the top performing hunter spec, during said periods.

Okay, your friend was frustrated over not getting a good weapon for some time. However, it seems as if he still opted to swap spec? Exactly the opposite of what you said would be the outcome.

Ofc, but that’s still not a case of having an entire spec majorly reworked or removed?

Glad Warrior should be added back to the game, just like every other variant of gameplay or fantasy

Would you throw these weapons?

Guessing that’s what they want?

I disagree, nets are a very lackluster theme to me personally, and fit the general class more.

People who are still crying about Ranged Survival Hunter in 2023 are just sad and annoying. Move on already. Its so irritating to see adults whine like this over a videogame change. People are dying in the world but your upset over a polearm

Want to play classic survival? Take explosive shot, serpent sting, go marksman (pretend the name is survival), take bleed trap if you liked trap weaving, get wailing arrow, now you fire off fire shots, poison shots, and shadow shots, just like old school survival, enjoy. You can stop complaining now.

I would explain to you how that doesn’t even closely represent the gameplay of old Survival but I think you already know that well.

You just mean you’ll keep whining.
