- Servers don’t really exist.
Everything is merged and mixed and some servers have so few on early morning you get less than 50 people in your /who 1-120
- You don’t loot anything anymore.
Can you imagine having aoe loot and killing 20 mobs, and its still not worth the time to stop and right click? Everything is basically worthless until level 120, at which point only most things are basically worthless.
- No talent points
You only get “talent categories” to select something every 15 levels. I feel like that has got to be one of the “if its impossible to be bad, its impossible to be good” design decisions I have heard about. You have no real choices or exploration possible within you class.
- World of Hordecraft/Meleecraft is real
I hoped on a demon hunter, a class I had never heard of before, and went k/d positive in a battleground at 120. The same happened with a death knight he had. I tried out a 120 warlock (his main, insanely geared I am told) mage (my main), and priest, and got wrecked often scoring 0 kills and presenting no challenge on every caster I tried. There are 0 disarms or protection, or even escape compared to melees near zero CD interrupts, silences, magic immunes, gap closers and mobility. Its more lopsided that if I tried to make melee OP, its not subtle at all.
At the end of it all, I have to say I’m glad I am back with classic. I doubt I will leave for retail; If I leave here I’m leaving the entire blizzard ecosystem.

Well, i am glad you were even able to make sense of the non existent talent tree and cut down abilities
I looked at one of my toons, tried to make him playable for giggles
and was like w t f is this? i cant even play this.
You were pigeon holed into picking one thing and one thing only

Its not so much that I made sense of the retail talent trees, its just that it didn’t matter what I picked. Unless you wanted to raid I guess at which point you better have the “right” everything.

do you honestly think spending 5 talent points on making a dot instant cast is really a meaningful choice? or a priest forced to do wand specialization if he wants to level? or warriors needing the talent that makes you save rage when you switch stances? or not being able to use your interrupt unless you switch stances and lose all your rage? these are compelling things to you guys? lol

You’re completely missing the point. It’s not about single talents, it’s about talent specs. In classic, I can take talents from Fire and Frost, making a high skill cap but extremely fun to play elemental spec. All of that is gone in retail.

the reason you can do that is because the end talents are so bad they’re not worth taking. if they were you’d want them and couldn’t make an elemental spec. look at SVs last talent point. or affs.
or lolwell for the biggest example.

What about say Magic Absorbtion in Classic? Each time I resist a spell I get 300 mana. In pvp its something I pair with Magic Resist Potion to help against caster fights, which even means I can spend more mana faster than usual. In raids theres enough aoe magic mechanics that it gives me mana over time. I can sacrifice intellect on gear for spell power.
This is a contentious choice because you can simulcraft the effectiveness of this strategy on a raid as a whole. On other levels I can mix and match frocane and impact, or pure 30/0/21, or I can pick situational talents and make new builds. Best of all, some talents sometimes suck, but are sometimes amazing. Some work with certain gear and some you can MAKE work with consumes and enough effort. It makes exploring classes more fun, and shows they have more depth as well.

That isn’t even remotely close to the truth. The whole point is figuring out which talents you can sacrifice in order to make your overall spec better. It’s nice you prefer the streamlined, no-choice talents in retail, but I find them to be dumbed down.

being unable to accept new things is a sign of old age. Some people age faster than others, if you’re like this now OP, you’re ageing quickly.

except in pve there’s meta specs that you’re forced to play even though raid bosses die in like a minute. it’s the biggest group of… well… do you really need max consumables to kill rag at this point? no. they’re more cookie cutter than in retail where you have multiple choices for things. there is only one “right way” to have your talents in classic. and if you chose incorrectly you’re locked out of content. or you have to spend a ton of gold to fix it. where in retail all you have to do is be at a rested place and you can change your talents. all of them. for no cost.

when you reach 60 you will have your BiS raiding spec. you will have to use this or you won’t get to raid “blah blah blah we’re not carrying you blah blah blah” and then if you want to pvp you have to change gold to that spec to even be able to function properly in pvp. and for mage those are two totally different specs.

New isn’t automatically better. If you were older and had more experience, you would understand this.

All I do is PvP. I don’t care about raiding.

Kind of, it’s more of a “battle group” server now.
-
Um…what?
-
those choices are more situational, then it being something for all around use to an extent.

No, you’ve heard of a Demon hunter, it’s called TBC. You don’t now how to play a mage then…or a priest, or a lock in retail. They play somewhat the same with new abilities/effects.
I love playing devils advocate. Retail isn’t for everyone, it’s a different beast, and it’s not “slow” compared to classic. I highly doubt slow is the correct term now. I think “casual” is the better word for it. But retail has A LOT of catch up mechanics as well as a level boost.

how do you expect to perform well in pvp when people are in naxx gear and you’re in blues? because you don’t raid. also i’m looking at the mage page on classic and the elementalist build is apparently a cookie cutter build so you’re not even coming up with your own build but following someone elses. how is that any different than the talents in retail?

Yea ok Retail raider apologist. Did you get lost and wander into the wrong forums or what?

But people are getting so bad that they can’t accept it and is becoming bitter towards it is a sign of ageing. We all age, Im not bashing age. Im just noting that alot of people in WoW are getting older and some age faster. The OP is sounding like “in my day, we walked in the snow…”

Well there’s PvP gear…duh. And you have no idea what my planned build is, but you call it cookie cutter? Just go back to retail homie.

i play classic just as much if not more than retail at this point. but if you’re going to lie about things in the classic forums to make retail seem worse don’t be surprised when you get called out on it.
