With shadowlands actually being exceptional so far with great, fast paced pvp as well as clever dungeon design and amazing zones, it really sunk in to me just why I started classic in the first place. Battle for azeroth was a terrible expansion with the inverse of the positives i noted above for Shadowlands.
I knew going into classic that it was going to be a cakewalk but it was a little nostalgic trip down memory lane which I don’t regret. I also have never taken the game seriously as a competitor. Its been min maxed to death and there’s tons of information out there to the point that its just a dps spreadsheet in action. I knew this going into classic and I knew that the only time classic would be good was that initial leveling and gearing process. Once everyone had gear it would basically be dead outside capital cities.
Most people play classic because of my reasoning; that they want retail to be good. They weren’t getting the game they wanted with BFA and went to classic “when the game was good” . This sentiment further proves this paragraphs opening statement.
Well shadowlands is shaping up to be one of the great expansions and lo and behold I haven’t logged into classic unless it’s to raid log. There is no charm in classic…nothing to keep me logged in at max level. The pvp is garbage. The ranking system is garbage. Dungeons are pointless at max level with epics. These are all facts.
Hate on retail all you want but you cannot deny that the end game of retail is legions more superior and is actually damn good. The leveling process in classic is the game. Not the classic end game.
I really enjoyed the first month or two of classic. The rest of the time it’s been a weekly chore of endlessly farming gold for consumes and logging out with world buffs and im truly grateful that its finally coming to an end and progressing into tbc. Tbc will be an interesting experience but I doubt I’ll commit to any sort of sweaty semi hard-core raiding like I did in classic. Retail is just too damn fun…especially the pvp.

I can and i will deny that. I do not like retail. It may be superior to you but not for me.

I ran an UD Strat tonight and it was great. People talking to each other, tank marking targets, laughing at the two mages faceplanting because they drew aggro. You know the socializing that never happens in retail. Sorry man but Classic is the only version of WoW that’s out right now that is actually WoW.

I’m glad you like Retail, but it’s going to take some convincing to make me leave Classic.
If Wrath Classic ever releases, I will play nothing else.

Ok, well that’s great you’re having fun. There are retail forums that you can post on from now on about it. You made a thread before saying you’re glad you play Classic and not retail. Go ahead saying the same thing but in the opposite on the retail forum then.
Your Naxx is easy thread was weird (since you haven’t cleared it) and this one is just talking about your preferences. There’s really no need for these threads.
There wasn’t anything to draw me into Shadowlands so there is no point in me playing it personally. I’ve also been hearing (as of recently) that the PVP is actually not good again and the really funny thing is the same battleground premade vs pug complaints are on the retail battleground forums. Have fun with that.

On the one hand, retail is too complicated: too many systems.
On the other hand, retail is too simple: on rails, a massively single-player lobby game.
And in between: absurdly complex raid boss mechanics that make me feel like a dolphin doing tricks for fish.
No thanks. I may play TBC and Wrath – if they are ever released. Then I’m done. Fool me twice…

Not sure if serious. You’re basically the first person I’ve seen with anything positive to say about Shadowlands pvp.

They are posting on a rogue so it stand to reason they are enjoying how over powered they currently are before blizz balance pass.
Cant wait to see how that plays out.

I remember this guy. I think the entire post was nuked but he started a thread about how super easy naxx was and what a faceroll it is. People looked at his logs and realized he and his guild had only gotten like 3 bosses in spider wing down.
Anyways, glad you’re enjoying retail OP. Buy some sprite wings and enter a transmog competition or something lol. Go collect pony mounts or whatever.

Sorry, but what changed in Shadowlands that would make Classic players enjoy it? Is exploration rewarding? Is there emergent gameplay? Do the NPCs not hold your hand through every quest chain anymore? Is levelling slow and challenging? An improvement in objective quality doesn’t matter to us if the design philosophy didn’t change DRAMATICALLY.

Shadowlands is worse than BFA. So I came back to classic.

Sounds like you’re just intoxicated by that new expansion smell. Shadowlands is better than I thought but you’re definitely Rose coloring it

It feels more classic-like across the board.[quote=“Lease-sulfuras, post:11, topic:762807”]
Is exploration rewarding?

At least as much as Classic
There is in every MMO
Imagine caring about quest chain difficulty
Imagine thinking Classic leveling is challenging
TBH none of that will likely be the case a few months down the road. WOD and BFA were also hype on their release and we all know how those turned out.
Current WoW expansions have a tried and true trend of having an explosive release and then running out of a steam very quickly as people begin to see all the chinks in the superficial armor.
It definitely looks nice, but that’s about it. The people currently designing it haven’t changed though, they always inevitably fall in to the same traps.

Even BFA was better than classic. The fact that you didn’t realize it, is astounding. You even said it yourself.
You forgot to mention, raids are way too easy, and not tuned appropriately for the modern gamer. Itemization in the game is trash, many class specializations aren’t functional and not even tolerated.
BFA wasn’t a great expansion by wow standards but it had a level of depth that simply not existent in classic. And shadowlands is still young, how good of an expansion it is, it’s hard to say.
Your praise of PVP is mostly to do with the level squish, which could have happened in any expansion. Other than that, not much has changes for how they handle pvp.
But in general you’re right, classic can’t hold a candle to retail, even BFA retail. Classic has numerous flaws that you mentioned and many more.

I’d be willing to bet you’re not raiding mythics in which case retail content is easier than Naxx

Have fun. Retail pvp stills sucks though imo as a function of class design.

Classic is what brought me back to WoW. I stopped playing regularly during Cataclysm & finally walked away completely around the time of the awful MoP xpac.
