Keep in mind you can play Fresh and SoD. You don’t have pick sides. The technology exists to make it possible!

Its the same exact game except one has inferior raids, like 10 garbage class specs, no QoL updates other than the addition of SOD’s Chronoboon, and its a massive time sink in general. There’s really no reason to play both if you’ve already played Era before.

I predict SOD will win over fresh, and I think thats probably why they’re releasing it at the same time as AQ to see what people actually choose to play. Vote with your game time!

I suspect it will play out modestly better than Season of Mastery which actually was fresh classic except with a few extra mechanics per raid boss. I know some people like to say SOM didn’t do well because they made the raids too hard(which would be a comical indictment of classic purist diehards but whatever) however I think it’s obvious its because a lot of people realized they just played that game for 2 years and didn’t want to do it all over again without anything significantly new to look forward to.

80k logs with many players having multiple alts logging let’s meet in the middle and say 40-50k players on sod. (There’s two servers)
You would have to be assuming that once the fresh logs come out there will be less players than that. We can even discount people who may be just leaving sod for fresh and leave the player guesstimate at 40-50k anyways.
The odds are stacked against you heavily, which is also why I believe they just dropped a fresh right on top of sod. That is not normal behavior, they dropped SOM on top of tbc but tbc was the flagship at the time. I believe they learned a lesson there not to drop new freshes if the current product is doing well
Had they dropped this fresh at this time but if sod had its past playerbase of 150-200k I would agree with you
I believe they just had no real experience with timing their game modes properly
I think som pop was low because they tried to drop it when TBC was thundering and prospering. I don’t think we will see that again from them while a product is doing good. Which leaves me suspicious why this rerun was dropped on top of sod. But they know more about sod than we ever will
Even if its 10-15k players. Thats good enough especially if 10K are on CS. =)

Yeah it’s absolutely enough players to maintain a functioning server absolutely. Remember the regular era servers had a few hundred years ago only then blew up and hardcore buffered it more

I really don’t see the appeal. I don’t think that people dislike SOD enough to throw away a full years worth of their time investment and start fresh. For what reason?
Do you enjoy slowly leveling to 60…? What is the appeal ??
The people who hate SOD that much but love classic already switched to era at this point, why would they wants to start fresh… ya, I just really don’t see the appeal.

Some will do that, some will stay. Eventually sod will end and you’ll have to start over too.
The point being is even though a portion of the current pop will stay, not all of it will. But we aren’t really talking about sod refugees mainly. We are talking about the people who quit sod, never played sod, didn’t like sod etc. THOSE are the players who will play fresh. I’m talking the hundreds of thousands sod used to have
You can’t honestly think they aren’t gonna hop on fresh now do you? Not taking anything away from you, but there are a lot of people who don’t like sod and either unsubbed or are just waiting on the next fresh mode. I’m not saying 100% of those players will be there, there’s no way to tell what every individual is doing. But if you think SOD will somehow hold more pop than a fresh trilogy relaunch I’ve got an island to sell you

All the classic warrior players are gonna be blaming each other for not rolling support, while the people that play other classes are enjoying being able to play them in a classic setting on SoD.
If all u care about is raiding then logging off sure. We’ve had fresh so many times and u still have ppl rollin every class and havin fun hate to break it to u enjoy dead sod
