The rewards were substantially better for doing a daily calling. They messed them up the same way they did with Torghast, they made it a chore grind for currency.
Having to go through the Oribos Interdimensional Terminal ALL THE FREAKING TIME is incredibly annoying. Was hoping we’d have a straight teleport back to the Covenants with the max travel research, but nope. You get to portal TO Oribos, but still stuck on the FPs and annoyance getting back around.
While I appreciated flight in the open world and later in ZM, same issue still applies. Everything is so stupidly separated and instanced that traveling around and doing anything is measured more in how much extra time is wasted, versus actually playing and having fun.
The fact we also couldn’t pick what zones to do in random order was annoying, especially on alts. Legion and BFA had the mission table that let you shuffle around and do quests how you wanted. Running Bastion over and over was simply mind numbing, especially since there was ZERO consideration for what class/race you were playing.
I mean let’s be realistic here, they are heaps more engaging but people don’t want engaging…they want quick and simple. Let’s not pretend we all didn’t see what emissaries were up and look at the respective quests and pick those that either involved killing a named mob or otherwise could be done in seconds. Go kill 12 mobs and find 10 McGuffins? No way. Go camp a named NPC/rare and blow it up in seconds along with the other pile of lazy people wanting a quick WQ done? Absolutely.
I guess that was our big “meaningful choices” factor.
Make it not work in raids/dungeons and idc. So long as it’s a part of end-game gearing for instanced content… no… just no.
I still think Legion did it better, I miss Legion world quests.
As others have said, I miss the connection of the zones in previous expansions that made doing world quests far easier. It just made the world more engaging. I hope Blizz learned something with Shadowlands and improves are ability to do world quests in DF. My concern is how dragon riding might impede that.
I mean, this thread isn’t about BFA as a whole being wonderful. It’s about how one specific area of content was handled much better in BFA by comparison. That does not in any way invalidate or even contradict most of the complaints people had about BFA, which tended to be more about the AP grind and the heavy RNG of the borrowed power systems.
The world quest system being generally better has nothing to do with any of that.
But I will give Shadowlands world quests this: At least they don’t try to make my evil unholy death knight care whether or not a turtle made it to the water.
Again, the problem is that “engaging” world quests are only really engaging and fun the first time, and maybe the second. When you are doing it for the 100th time over the course of two years and five to ten characters, “engaging” becomes “tedious” in an approximately 1:1 ratio.
Most of the world quests in SL would make great one-time quests. But world quests should be designed with the idea that they will be repeated dozens, perhaps hundreds of times per player over the course of the expansion. The more complexity and steps you add to a quest, the more fun and engaging it will likely be the first time, and the less fun and engaging each subsequent time.
This is why world quests should always be designed as simple, easy, quick content that doesn’t wear out its welcome.
Then why does no one of the CC makes a topic about this? It’s known that the best world quest iteration was Legion with a functioning world quest party finder, until it got butchered and disabled until not even add-ons helped anymore.
You have the power in your hand to change it.
I liked Legion and BFA WQs way better too. The nested WQs in Shadowlands are crap. And the rewards do not match the effort required.
2 mark of honors compared to 5 marks speaks volumes.
They tried to make WQs in SL non-mandatory not realizing a lot of people were going to do them anyway due to conditioning. Personally, I ignored most of them unless they had something I really wanted (which most did not lol).
Agree with the OP, no more, or at least a lot fewer of these multi part WQ. One WQ I hope to never see repeated, the one in Ardenweald where you become a moth and have to get dust to enrage the drust mobs. If there is more than 2 other players out there doing it as well, just leave and save yourself the frustration.
On a similar note, can we please phase bombing WQ. So many times I’ve seen a train of people flying over the same area, if you are the head of the train or the rear, fun, anyone in between, you are just sightseeing.
