I like how fast "#pulltheripcord" died

I mean, in our guild, the spread is pretty even between the four. We have several who went Kyrian and Necrolord. Some went for aesthetic there, but others chose it for the story and others did it because of the abilities granted.

It’s no one thing for any of us in a game this big. Aesthetics are important. Gameplay is important. RP is important. And min/maxing is also important.

It depends on the player. Necrolord is the least attractive of the four, but it’s also the most aggressive, and tons of people will choose it based on that. Kyrian look good and have excellent abilities, and many will choose them.

That’s because those two covenants were over-nerfed when Blizzard dropped the initial hammer.

Necrolords was the absolute SHOE IN for many classes before they started nerfing them. In typical Blizzard fashion, overnerfed the first set and didn’t bring them back in line. Same with Kyrian.

Most classes are picking the “Decent/Good at both” ones. Kyrian/Necro just happen to not be that for many classes. You’re reading too many lore-nerd threads here on the general forums, and rushed to make this post due to confirmation bias

I don’t really follow the drama and controversy behind things like, “pull the ripcord”, I mostly just enjoyed playing wow for the past year. Whenever I’d hear this phrase I’d just cringe because it was treated as some universal mantra that everyone should know and understand.

Having researched it more it seems to be a subset of very hardcore players that are extremely concerned with min maxing (a philosophy best left to speed running guilds and elitists).

Personally I wish “pull the ripcord” would have been not just a complaint about covenant abilities and more of a plea to scrap the entire expansion and start over from scratch.

If you are enjoying yourself, I encourage you to continue playing. I’m just happy I was able to get a refund to go through, Shadowlands is not a well thought out product and more than anything it isn’t very fun.

disclaimer
Fun is a subjective phenomenon and if you are having fun and love shadowlands please to do not respond by saying “Well I’m having fun”. This adds nothing to the conversation and I worry about why someone having fun in the expansion would be scouring the message boards for people not having fun to reply to them that they are having fun

Bone Spike for Rogues wasn’t nerfed, it was murdered.

I don’t hate the Kyrians what

It’s definitely still a loss, but both sides lost. You’re glad you got nerfed abilities instead of ones that are actually meaningful in your gameplay? Congrats I guess.

I mean for casuals sure and most players in this game are casuals.

Yes aestherics are more important when the min/maxing only gives a 3% increase over eachother.

Back when pulltheripcord was a thing, some of the covenants were 200-300% better than others.
But instead of pulling the ripcord allowing us the freedom to play how we want while choosing our covenant based on aesthetics, blizzard nerfed the EVER LIVING $H*T out of covenants to where now none of them really matter.
So congratulations. covenants are now boring as hell

Void Elves should not be allowed to become Necrolords.

It would remove all chances of closing that vold portal that is currently spewing out void demons onto Azeroth’s current realm and we will have to fight them off next expanion.

I seem to be the in the minority in my group who doesn’t actually like necrolords. Most of my buddies love it, and the aesthetic of them.

Regardless, it’s about perspective. To some, minmaxing is important. To others, aesthetics are important.

I did not lose? I knew it would get balanced out some. And even now the skills still seem powerful.

Noone lost but the ripcord side, and they refuse to accept it. Now trying to take balance changes as some victory shows just how sad that side really is.

It would have been a fundamental change to the centerpiece of the expansion.

I feel like it also partially died because they did a good job with the system to a LOT of players. I think the ripcord thing was so loud because it was voiced by steamers and content creators - so there was some illusion it represented the majority of players.

Doesn’t seem that way. I’m seeing mostly positivity surrounding the system. I also enjoy it very much and I understand exactly why they’re implementing it this way.

Of course I am speaking for myself - but man there’s a lot more positive than negativity surrounding them now which is just really funny

Teleporting to the target might cause so many LFR wipes.

It’s not dead at all. It’s still quite a big deal, considering the undeniable fact that over the next few weeks, covenants will be nerfed into the dirt, making people want to choose a different one.

This is why I wont pick one on my Death Knight

I still went with bastion. I wanna know how the story works out. Plus, angel theme fits the pally pretty good.

no they are just the least used min max covenants. i personally want to be necro on my hunter but am night fae instead for min max, granted i really like it now that i see it, so its no big deal, just like necro better still tho

The irony of the whole mess is that a choice in an MMO is MORE meaningful when there are zero game mechanic attached to it and you can make the choice based entirely on your own preferences.

I’ve seen posts from mythic raiders who felt sad that they had to pick the most output enhancing choice because their preference was to go with a different covenant.

It’s great how everyone for this system treat the evil min maxers as some extreme group rather than just accepting that a lot of people actually just want to both enjoy their aesthetics and have their favorite gameplay ability.
