I mained priest again in season 3… from a story standpoint I really love being a shadow priest. I’ve played one since Vanilla all the way until today.
And I can say without a shred of doubt in my mind now, after having so much fun with Void form mechanics in Legion, and struggling to keep my enthusiasm through all later iterations I will never play priest ever again.
It’s devoid of any joy anymore after having the Insanity mechanic stripped away. Zero interest. I’m glad for the people that do enjoy it at its current stage. But class fantasy wise, and gameplay loop wise, although AOE is infinitely easier, its dogwater to me.
Playing a Guardian Druid where I have to actively manage ironfur stacks and self heal has been infinitely more rewarding and more like my favorite former gameplay loop than current shadow priest could ever be.
Heres to hoping they make Insanity Legion Void form its own subclass some day, so I can enjoy playing priest again…
Oh well
You’re of course allowed to have your opinion and preference, but the removal of that tedious insanity bar, coupled with them actually being able to do non-frustrating AoE, saved the spec for me.
BFA shadow was the best itteration of shadow compared to maybe DF S1.
I will not be playing SP in TWW unless they rework it again.
Uncap SC, and then I can excuse it. Otherwise laterssss
It wasnt universally loved, personally i hated it, it was far too frantic and spammy for me, i initially picked shadow because i enjoyed dot management which has frankly been removed which is a bigger issue for me.
My only wish for shadow is making shadow crash cost 50 insanity instead of a cd, make it baseline and set insanity to 50 out of combat.
I’m the opposite. I stopped playing spriest after WoD because the Insanity gameplay was a giant step down from shadow orbs. I don’t mind the idea of draining insanity, but it felt bait-n-switchy to suddenly staple it onto spriest like that. And using Surrender to Madness to maximize the class, another decent idea, was not what I wanted.
Still, you kinda have some of the Insanity gameplay right now using Void Eruption and extending Voidform with bolts and plague. Shadow Orb mechanic was basically moved to Demo Lock too.
I’m happy the insanity nonsense is gone. And from the looks of it, plenty of players are enjoying this updated version of the shadow priest. I see shadow priests in all sorts of pvp content. Wish I could say the same about enhancement shaman.
Ah yes, but NOTHING plays like shadow used to. BFA S4 shadow to DF 10.0.7 shadow was the most fun I have ever had in this game. Shadow was so much fun, so engaging, and had a constant button to press. The 10.1 rework literally made me quit the game for 4 months, lol. I HATE shadow now.
Nowdays its just like every other spec with a 3-4 button rotation and spreading dots…
I need a spec with a 7-8 button rotation and fast paced again with a high skill cap… but there’s like nothing left of that…
Ignoring the fact voidform shadow was generously 5 buttons and for the most part pressing 3 over and over again, elementalist enhance shaman seems to fit what you want.
I disagree that legion was pinnacle shadow.
I agree blizz should make another spec called void for all the void form lovers.
Return shadow to the dot management bursty glass cannon of the past. Or even 10.0 but this new hard cast everything even you offensive cds is for the birds. Void form was a terrible idea for shadow, should have made another spec.
My issue with voidform being removed is, it was an entirely unique mechanic. No other class has or had anything like it. So anyone who enjoyed that playstyle was left with nothing to turn to.
It’s pretty lame.
I’ve accepted that it’s not coming back, however I will not accept the current train wreck that shadow is. Unless it gets a true rework (not just bandaids and patch fixes) I won’t be playing it. Shadow deserves better. It’s supposed to be the dark and spooky caster, but it’s just a mess that nobody at blizzard wants to bother with
Yeah but that’s not the same. I mean yes you try to maintain it as long as possible but it’s not giving you extra haste as it goes along, and you don’t stay in it for 1min+ getting a frantically fast rotation.
I have yet to find a spec that fills the same niche as voidform
Because that was absolutely busted and was nerfed multiple times before outright being removed because they obviously tried to balance it over 2 expansions and ended up calling it when Shadowlands alpha showed that without all the borrowed powers provided with BFA that shadow was a husk and couldn’t do anything until they did some hefty updates adding a handful new talents and changing Voidform to be a 2 minute cooldown instead of endless scaling potential.
This is far before the advent of the dragonflight talents we see today.
Legion Shadow was already a failing and dying design and was finally put to rest come the release of Dragonflight.
Did you think they would continue the struggle of its failing pain points for another expansion? Or even further?
Sometimes you just have to know when to throw in the towel and that is what we saw going into Shadowlands and that was reassured going into Dragonflight.
I’m not advocating for voidform to return, nor am I saying it was functional. However they could’ve at least replaced it with a functional, polished spec. Not this tangled mess of Frankenstein pieces all stitched together to make something resembling a spec.
As terrible as voidform was, this current version of shadow isn’t exactly great. It’s probably the most poorly designed spec in the game
It has issues that are even more highlighted after the amazing reworks we have seen with other classes during this TWW beta process.
We definitely need a decent amount of devotion to focus and address multiple issues that affect both Shadow and Priest as a whole.
My biggest concern is that now with the added Hero Talent trees that those will weigh down any changes that the class and specs should have. Meaning if they attempt to not change the hero talents completely while making class/spec changes then I think they would pigeon hole themselves in a corner similar but not as bad as old Voidform.
