Fun fact thats actually not true, you will get more flies with vinegar then honey.
I take breaks from the game sometimes. Last break was for a year. But I’m back now, and still mostly having fun. Trying to gear up a bit for SL.
While I don’t take WoW as seriously as I used to do, as long as I’m enjoying something on the game I’m here. And for now, I’m having fun. 
I complain occasionally on topics that “bug” me, but I also don’t expect Blizz to even read it. Mostly I’m just venting my frustration. Then I go back to playing. lol
Too much frustration builds up and I go play another game for a while. No biggie.
I used to kind of Live for WoW, now it’s something I do when I have time as long as I’m having fun. But I don’t get all that involved in it.
Right now, I’m having fun with a new Enh. Shaman, so I’m playing.

Nowhere but on the Internet do you see people so clingy and unable to let go that when they don’t enjoy something, it’s not good enough to simply ignore it : they need to actively go and make sure no one else enjoys it either.
IRL, normal people just don’t talk about or engage with things they don’t enjoy.

The forums are more a suggestion / compliant box.
People enjoying the game and are happy with Blizzard are playing the game or doing something IRL. People that like the game but are upset about some issue are talking about here.
A positive thread on an issue with a lot of consensus isn’t going to get a lot of action, what else can you add.
A negative thread will draw in all the people that feel the same plus all the people that think bliz can do no wrong and off to the races you go.

I don’t see how the political climate of the US, something that affects policy which can have a great effect on people’s lives, is in any way, shape or form related to entertainment media that has literally no other effect on you than to entertain you.

I blame some of the shift in tone of the negativity on the rise of youtube players who get their clicks stoking outrage. You see a lot of similar language being used. Things aren’t bad, they are the worst ever. Conspiracy theories get thrown around. People try to out do each other with reaction threads bashing announcements and cinematics. Some people just flat out link to the videos rather than form their own opinions. The worst part is hardly any of it is constructive. They don’t want to discuss anything, just hate on everything.

Did you ever think it’s this bad on the forums because BFA is the worst expansion so far in wow’s history? No. You just blind defend the game for whatever reason.

Recently came back I’m so happy I can be a velf dk 
I’ve been wanting to be one so bad since they first came out my dream came true.

The thing is there will always be negative threads, but ever since WoD. Those negatives threads increased and people did talk with their wallets hence why we got a lot of recopy skin races than actual ones that would have their own animation.
The game isn’t healthy even if you’re having fun. I can have fun with the game too, but I won’t be blind on what’s happening to the game.

Yeah, this is a thing too. They make money with the outrage culture, people aren’t interested in watching videos that praise something. They’d have to get normal jobs if they wanted to sit around making “content” that praised the game.

I think there are 3 factors contributing to the negativity. In no particular order:

The horrible class design (or lack thereof) this expansion makes the game just unfun for a lot of people to play. Three expansions in a row of ability pruning has left a lot of specs as just bare bones. The massive class/spec imbalance is also a problem, as is the fact that Blizzard has done almost no class adjustments this expansion, just leaving the rotheap to sit in the sun and fester. The current dev team doesn’t seem to understand that our characters are the interface through which we interact with the world. If our character isn’t fun to play, it doesn’t matter how much ‘content’ Blizzard cranks out.

The “OUTRAGE OF THE DAY” youtube culture. It isn’t just WoW, it’s everywhere. Youtubers have to find a new existential crisis every day to generate clicks. The whole thing is just dumb.

In alpha/beta, Blizzard demonstrated to its most constructive users that it doesn’t give a damn about their feedback. They had months of detailed, constructive feedback… and they ignored EVERY WORD of it. So the people who ARE constructive really just don’t bother anymore, because we know Blizzard doesn’t care.
