My eyes are bleeding. Someone help meā€¦

One of the benefits of generally enjoying almost all the expansions is watching the discourse about ones that were loathed at the time slowly become underrated or even beloved.

You only have 18k cheevos.

That means that you havenā€™t finished SL yet.

Time to go home.

See I told you gd that you were too harsh on SL just like you were with legion (aparently now beloved status) and BfA that is getting there.

What I miss about SL was the many characters mostly old we got to see in the shadowlands. Thr whole Alexandros Kyrian campaign interactions, garrosh, kaelthas,KT, genn, bolvar, thrall, jaina taelia etc. We met heroes of old in a completely new world. The shadowlands felt alien and foreign and they nailed each zones role.

Also Kyrian were the perfect paladin aesthetic just regal and majestic themes.

Oh and zereth mortis is one of the best patch zones ever added

To each their own. I hate Bastion; it hurts my eyes and I have to turn down all the brightness settings because I end up with headache if I am there for long. Maldraxxus is just grossly ugly. A zone made up of a corpse does not for me equal personality. The other two are ok but I left all of them without a backward glance.

Personality? One zone looked like it came from Super Mario. And another zone looked like it came straight from Castlevania. I think the Shadowland zones were some of the worst in any expansion. They took the fantasy setting to the extreme which gave me a feeling of ā€œoh brotherā€ as I rolled my eyes when transversing the zones.

I liked that zone! lol ā€¦ No, really, I did. I liked the whole expansion.

Shadowlands had the biggest disappointment when we were promised Korthia, The City of Secrets which turned out to be Korthia, The Collection of a Few Ruins in Small Section of Woods.

Iā€™m doing Shadowlands content right now and honestly, it feels good. With all of the patches in place etc too - Best is being able to choose a covenant on what I wanted.

I just got all of the questing done (It was a lot) and now Iā€™m doing BFA, will do the two together until theyā€™re squeezed dry.

Iā€™m convinced that a couple people in this thread are from an alternate universe where Shadowlands was decent. Certainly not in this one, not the expansion I played. ā€œZones had personalityā€? They were all generic, boring archetypes with zero variety within them. It felt like playing one of those bad knockoff mobile games. It felt like an asset flip.

Even the music was generic and forgettable. BFA and DF had some great, memorable tunes. Nothing stands out in Shadowlands. All generic fluff.

Either that or someone has their nostalgia goggles on so tight that itā€™s cutting off blood flow to their brain.

As far as it being worse than WODā€¦in a lot of ways it is. WOD had some great zones, great music, and great levelling. The problem is that the game stopped when you hit 100, and there was nothing to do but raid or level an alt, and they effectively cancelled the expansion at the 1/3 point.

SLā€¦would only have potential if a lot of things were changed. WOD just needed the content that was cut out. As far as the story, SL is up there with the worst fanfiction Iā€™ve ever read.

Visually and thematically I prefer Shadowlands. All the zones were interesting (Minus Fae and the Maw).

Gameplay wise I prefer Shadowlands. Everyone had what they needed in their kits. Classes felt decent enough. There was no need to prune or drastically rework because the trees were minorly case-by-case driven without being the extreme outlying cases they are today. Covenants hurt that to some degree and DF picked it right up.

Systems wise I prefer Dragonflight on almost everything but professions. Itā€™s just really hard to like DF with the story being the way it is. And then the gearing progress. The game more or less throws everything at you from 20 different angles.

Iā€™m really starting to lean towards accessibility being the killer here. Itā€™s nice being able to reach 450 a week after but the progression path feels wrong. Like thereā€™s no difficulty curve to appreciate.

Same with flying. Iā€™m not embracing the content like I was in SL. Iā€™m not remembering it in any fashion. I donā€™t have any particular inclination to feel anything for DF because my twitch gamer is turned max.

Iā€™m learning to turn it down with Valheim and thatā€™s arguably the least friendly way to do it. I really do think WoW could benefit from more meaningful grinds/delays.

From the title to the sentiment, you belong in SL. You can have it.

Well feel free to take it forever along with all my memories of it, too. Same for WoD. Iā€™d like to forget both. For the most part, the only time I ever played for hours on end was doing Twisting Corridors on certain classes. I carried so many friends and randos through there on this character as Demoā€¦
