I have no idea how to improve

This isn’t a moan thread or pointing out class imbalances. I’m starting PVP kind of “late” and getting used to managing macros and ability usage. Unfortunately, whenever I que for skirmishes I just feel so weak. I’m usually 10k hp and sometimes even 15k hp (26k hp atm) behind the enemy teams stats. I just get face rolled it feels like due to my gear being exponentially behind, and skill level, which leads to me to being unable to improve since I die so quick. Its discouraging and taking the fun out of arenas when you lose 9 out of 10 games. Does anyone have tips on what I can do? I’m slowly gearing up but it’s usually 35 honor a match.

What class are you?

Arms Warrior and Elemental Shaman. I switch on and off the two.

The game has absolutely never been worse for pvp. And it’s all because of gear.

Until you are within 10ilvls of the people sitting R1 don’t take anything seriously. You’re just getting stomped by backpedaling mythic gear.

You can’t even “learn” at 1200 at this point because of time sink gear garbage.

im somewhat new, what has helped me a lot at least as a wizard is using line of sight as much as i can

Do bgs and Epic bgs over and over upgrade all the honor gear, once you are 184 you will be stuck in the ilvl toilet Blizzard has chosen for us so the Elite can fest on our bodies.

You mean like turning off your auto camera? I’m not sure how to explain it, but the setting that sets your camera to not move back to frontal view?

Go resto play with arms warrior and profit. Once you get geared switch back to ele.

They mean using the pillars and corners to keep from being freecasted on.

You’re undergeared. You pump when you have your cd’s up, and otherwise run and try to snare/fear/cc and help your teammates.

On the warrior, sit in D stance 100% of the time.

On the shaman, take the swelling waves pvp talent and macro that healing surge to yourself. Spend some maelstrom to try to keep yourself up. Also, there is a conduit where your earth ele gives you another 26% max hp. And there is battlemaster’s trinket if you really need.

ALSO: if you can tank on the warrior and/or heal on the shaman, build or join groups to run the Mythic 0 dungeons. Its 184 ilvl i think, and especially if you have friends that will share the loot with you, it can help immensely.

You can always pay the guys in trade chat 500k for a hour of coaching in trade chat.

I’ve been trying to find an arena partner, when we lose one badly or couple in a row, they’ll disband the party haha. I understand the frustration or they want a stronger duo partner. I have been applying for guilds, haven’t received any word back yet this expansion but hopefully can find a healer in the same boat as me that doesn’t mind progressing.

One step at a time broski. Set a goal “im going to be alive this match for at least 20 seconds”. Then go to 30, then maybe 1 min, until you realize that its actually your partner whos dying before you.

without thinking about it, you’ll learn how to read certain scenarios and what defensive to use, or how to respond since you focused on that goal.

then set yourself another goal and so on

you might not become the arena player you want this season, or maybe the next, but if you slowly improve you will eventually

that or buy a boost lmao

Thank you for the advice. I’ll utilize those talents more and practice playing around walls.

Also (and this is huge) are you using any addons and/or weakauras?

I recommend:

  • Gladius
  • Omnibar
  • BigDebuffs

BigDebuffs is kinda huge, you can see on the enemy nameplate stuff like their combustion is up, or the shaman is protected by grounding totem etc.

I don’t have any of those. I’ll download them off curse, thank you!

both are S tier.
I haven’t seen too many Eles around, but Arms warrior is one of the best specs right now for rated pvp

mind posting your armouries so we can better help you out? gear matters atm so seeing how it is can further help us help you

quick note of gear. vers is typically the stat you want due to the damage reduction it provides and synergy with the PVP trinkets

yes it has bfa was 1000x worse from a gear standpoint

not only was your only source of gear pve, as a returning player depending on how late in the season you started it could take 4-6 to be at the literal minimum threshold of gearing due to timegated rep essences or them only dropping from a raid boss. that’s not even including how long it takes to lvl cloak and vision grinding for sockets and corruptions that’s like 15+ hours alone

with this or next renown tier cant remember u can get honor gear to 197 and i believe the upgradeable cov gear can get to 197 as well. if you just spam bgs and do some dungeons you could be at or close to 200ilvl in less than a week. the only timegate is soul ash for legendaries which kinda sucks but you can still push to decent rating with your bis ledge. most pvpers are around 205-210ish rn 200 is solid as a fresh 60

it’s not a perfect system but it’s a helluva lot better relative to bfa

best advice is to give up on this stupid game. gear is 100% the reason ur getting stomped and u cant get any good gear unless youre 1800+. which of course will never happen when youre fighting an uphill battle against 220+ mythic sweaties at 1600mmr.

There’s micro and macro skills. First, master the micro skills. That means play play play on a character until you win EVERY SINGLE 1v1 in bgs, once you master the Ins and outs of your class and what you can do, spam skirmishes and start on macro. Things like positioning, CD management, switching targets, faking, building pressure, CCing, etc

Play more and anytime you lose or die in a 1v1 or even 1v2, ask yourself what you could have done better

Improving is a mindset, you have to ask yourself what went wrong and you need to be objective about it
