I think I saw one Japanese player in my entire time on that game, so claiming their culture of “manners” (which is totally false if you have ever met them)
Im an Australian and have met PLENTY of Japanese and Koreans. Their “culture” of manners is very real. When in Rome…
I am Oceanic, sir, and I have met and interacted with many from my region. Sydney being a major commercial and cultural hub.
is meaningless when the people who were throwing a fit over me pointing out class design flaws were just white people with cognitave dissonance like you are.
Had it occurred to you to maybe just keep quiet or not be rude to your teammates?
You were ill mannered. Boorish. Rude.
American, european, and japanese players do not interact with each other as the megaservers are completely separated.
Not that I can recall and I met many Japanese.
As far as your idyllic addition to your post not quoted here, it is easy to try to invoke mayberry, but I know what the game is like right this second.
Tonberry.
The people in that game are incredibly insecure and their attitudes show that. As long as you massage their egos, and self-depreciate they will love you… right up until you stop massaging their egos. If you do not treat them like kid gloves they get “triggered” and flip out.
I tend to find that good manners, a quiet tongue and some consideration goes a long way. With everyone.
your constant defacing of wow will make you fit right in over there.
It seems to me like you’ve just had some bad experiences with other people. Simply put, a healer should definitely heal, but they can do more than just heal. And a non-tank queue definitely takes longer, but I think that’s the same in WoW as well from what I can tell.
That’s because I do not need to be dissatisfied with FFXIV to try other games. I have the time and the money for another mmo and people in the game and in my free company (guild) have mentioned WoW, so it’s a new thing I can try.
I have never stopped arguing my point. That you dropped your point and now are just trying to (as you admit here in a rare bout of self-awareness) “get the last word in” shows me that you realize you lost the debate.
In ffxiv, just like in wow (another thing copied almost exactly), aussies are sent to play on us servers. Japanese people are not.
In ffxiv, you interact from people on your megaserver. Primal and Aether don’t mix even though they are both us megaservers. you also can separate your groups by language.
I was having a discussion with people on the class design in ffxiv. That I told it how it is caused some people who thought ffxiv was completely original to panic. They never played wow so they did not know just how heavy the copying is.
The problem is that your stated impartiality and your full-throated defense of ffxiv contradict.
I expressed my opinions and disagreements over certain comments that were made in this thread. That doesn’t have anything to do with me being impartial as to whether or not any WoW player should try FFXIV. In fact, I never even said or suggested that anyone should try (or not try) FFXIV.

…it might have escaped your notice but Australia / NZ / Oceania have a very diverse population, including many Japanese and Korean expats.
No, I just know when I’m arguing with a fool… and while it’s a guilty pleasure, it’s delightful to keep stringing them along for a bit. After all, the act of debating even frivolous details is more fun than winning the argument itself; especially in these circumstances.
I haven’t been taking you seriously since I said “Release the Godbert!” NO ONE takes Hildibrand seriously, and there’s no point taking you seriously.
Alas, it seems you’re now boring me.
Claim your worthless “victory” if you must… but just remember, no one cares.
Yuuuuuuuuuuup.
I think WoW players would like a return to that time as well… or at least when most players didn’t care about your progress.
Which does draw back to the initial purpose of the topic, a player was leaving WoW for another game (which just so happened to be FFXIV) because WoW isn’t “doing it” for them anymore.
Many WoW players have left the game, going to FFXIV because it’s similar and pushing a lot of the right buttons… but if things were fine over here, there would be no issue with them coming back.
Unfortunately, the community in WoW itself is one of the biggest problems… and with the game itself not providing a reason to stay despite the community, things are definitely not looking good right now.
That you channel a toddler and say that things you can’t argue against are “boring” is just nonsensical. Don’t try to pass off your retreat as victory.
you cared enough to try to smear me and waste my time with non-arguments. your only problem was that it did not work.
And if there is a virtue you won’t signal, I’ll be sure to look for it.
Just stating the truth.
My home city is a busy and VERY diverse centre of commerce and culture, Oceanic being a VERY large region dependent on trade with Pacific nations via ASEAN.
No, just about everyone does. In progression statics, you are shamed for your dps regularly because they know you won’t report them for doing it.
People also do log shaming there more than they do here.
People will also blame you and your mother for their own bad play just to scapegoat you.
Like I said, the average player there tends to be incredibly insecure and will bite your head off the second you stop kneeling before them in submission.
The rule against people shaming you for using meters in public has to be there or else the community would collapse under its own vindictiveness in one night.
Its odd…because youve just described the WOW community. I also find it strange that what you say is in direct contradiction to what others have told me of their time ingame…so I am wondering how much of what you say is what I will actually find.
You seem very very serious about dissuading others in playing FF14.
Why is this, i wonder?
I’ll ask the old man on the road to Rome. I think he can tell me.
Oh, you’ll fit right in. The problem is people like that can be fickle. Hopefully you can be everything they want when they want it or they will turn on you. They also are the kinds of guys who find endless virtue signaling to be desirable, so you have that edge up already.
The community impression they very piously give themselves is that they are the best community in mmo history, with no equal. The reality is that they are incredibly insecure and vindictive, and refusing to play their mind games will make them attack.
If you are used to basic training in the military (ie shut up and do what you are told, “play the game,” etc) you will be fine until you accidentally show independent thought and cross them.
Just imagine reddit, but in game form.
I am telling you what it is like and the “promised land” meme you have foisted on the game is false. Please feel free to go, just do not dare come back crying to me.
An old man was sitting on a milestone at the Appian Way, and was approached by a young Thracian leading a cart of supplies and foods.
“Tell me, good sir, I am on my way to Rome to trade. Tell me, what are the people like?”
The old man looked up at him and scowled.
“Rome is a cesspit, full of liars and cheats and conmen. Tghe Senate is corrupt, the soldiers brutes, the people rude, surly and they hate outsiders. Get in and out quickly, young man, Rome is not a good place to live.”
Disturbed by this, the Thraxcian went to Rome and was horrified at tghe way he was treated. Traders snapped at him, dogs were staring at him with bared teeth, the soldiers were filthy, louseridden and filthy mouthed. He completed his trades, believing himself cheated, and left in a hurry, determined to tell his friends of the decadence of Rome.
Two days later, another man, this one a Greek, approached the same old man and asked him the same question.
The old man beamed.
"Rome is the centre of commerce, a jewel of our world. Find the time to go see the Senate building and witness the glory of Roman architecture, dont be afraid to say hello to a Senator (they wear purple in their robes) and tell him you are a visitor, Im am sure they will welcome you. Rome loves its guests.
The marketplace is bright, a little dirty but busy, you may be rest assured you will get a good price for your goods. They are sharp, but fair. Off you go"
The Greek entered the city, overwhelmed by the beauty all around him. Two Senators cane past him, and shyly, he greeted them saying he was there to trade. The Senators laughed, patted him on the shoulder, leaned over and whispered the name of a specific trader, told him this man was the sharpest and the fairest, bowed to him and wandered off.
At the marketplace, he sought out the man the Senator had mentioned, told him of what had been said, the trader laughed out loud “That scamp. I knew him when he was a boy, the son of the proconsul. Come show me your goods and let us bargain. Then you will dine with us, no no I insist…we are gracious to our guests, how else can we do business?”
Two days later, elated and happy, his pouch jingling with gold, the Greek returned home, eager to tell his family of his adventures in Rome, the centre of the civilised world.
Moral to this story Iandore?
When you look for the worst in people, dont be surprised when thats all you find.
Ive been forced to fire up the old swg emulator, thats a 15 y/o game now with no graphic or client or content updates for 13 of those years and its actually equal if not more fun than current wow. I still play wow but for like 20 mins a day instead of 3 hrs.
Which is total nonsense as reality is not based on your perception. Though the endless self-aggrandizement is really going to let you fit in.
The irony is that the reason ffxiv has such a glowing reputation when it comes to community is because anyone who dare challenge the prevailing orthodoxy is instantly mass reported. you can even be banned now under the reason of “has an opinion that won’t change.” In fact, you can be banned for telling someone to use protect before a dungeon as “telling people how to play” is now against the newest tos.
you fit right in. I got out while I could with only having been mass-dogpiled four or so times and only getting one death threat.
Ironically, it was an aussie in my last guild who started rumors about me to get me kicked from the fc when I told her that I refused to sit back and take it when 50+ people were insulting me in eureka chat. Odd how a country with such a past as it has, and with so much danger, breeds such submissiveness.
