I haven’t been this excited for a race since the Cataclysm gave us playable Goblins, and I don’t know how to feel about this. Part of this I blame on my fascination with the works of HP Lovecraft and the Mythos later authors expanded on, I am a sucker for creepy, weird stuff.
Partly I blame the colour schemes. I adore purple and golds, with the rich astral blues a bonus. The hair options, which include glowing aberrant tendrils, are just so fabulous. The skin colours, my favourite being the near-white tone which makes it look like the Abyss drained the elf of all their pigmentation.
I also blame the heritage armour, which in my opinion is one of the best released so far. I adore the Highmountain/Tauren armour, plus the upcoming Gnome armour. The detail, colour, and design just blows me away. Minus the neck collar for males, because every single long hair style clashes with it. (Shame, Blizzard!)
Their lore potential is incredibly interesting, and the powers they’ve demonstrated so far leaves me intrigued and wanting to see more. All in all, I think that the Void Elves are a fresh new take on the classic Elf fantasy, which has gotten really stale over the last few decades of playing a bevy of tabletop and virtual RPGs.
I have nearly a Void Elf for every class, and as a role-player I’ve lovingly crafted a backstory and purpose of each of them. I haven’t invested this much effort into my characters since my original Goblin rogue back in the day. It feels so satisfying to see that character background of purples, Void energy, and the vastness of space each time I load the game.
I like them too! I unlocked them almost immediately when they were released, and I was kinda hooked when I found out I loved the male facial hair options. And, the big thing here…DISCOUNT ON MOGGING??? Most OP racial.
Well, just let me go fetch my other-other pants of explosives. I’m one hundred percent certain that I left them in there. Here, you can keep the pants too!
I’m working on a Mage right now, with a Priest to follow.
Old God lore is my favourite thing in WoW, which is why Ulduar is still one of my favourite raids.
That is an unfortunate given, they really did just appear out of nowhere. In all honestly they could have linked a faction of Blood or High elves to the campaign on Argus and had us work directly with them after the transformation.
They do have the entirety of the Blood Elf lore still behind them, which helps. A little bit.
