I finally got my first 2 crackling shards for the alunira mount.
I decided to try farming rares while gathering herbs/minerals. i got lucky that almost all of the rares were out while I was doing this. I got 2 shards out of ~10 kills.
I am envious of those who did this early…
At least I have the super ugly but apparently rare (~1%) Ivory Goliathus mount (glory of the delver), so I have that nerd achievement going for me.
I am also envious of those who did it early. Also really hate the idea of farm random mobs for shards…… no one finds this fun. Add on that most world quests in the zone are not “kill x mobs” players can’t just do normal content to obtain it.
My advice is to get the Siesbarg quest item. Then focus on farming Nerubians by the Brewery in Isle of Dorn.
You should be pretty close to 10 shards by the them you finish getting Barg. Farm the bees for that mount to finish up and net 3 mounts in basically one farm.
Pretty much this. Although the shards still took me the longest. But I got about 8 shards farming those 2 mounts. Then I just joined the remaining farm groups for the last 2 shards. All up it took me about 8.5k kills for 10 shards.
I got my 10th shard and finished my bee grind more or less at the exact same time, but I had a very lucky roll on shards early into the blood/venom grind.
Fun fact. I had to restart my siesbarg farm on another character after I got so disgusted by what blizz did to my old main I had no choice but to abandon it early into 11.0.
still going to take you a few months but at least it doesn’t feel like watching a pot boil because you are doing something else. Plus by the time you are done your hunter will be half leveled up or more.
geez you would have been better off joining a group then if you were going to just grind it for hours. I usually spent 30 minutes or so each week but it took me until last week to get the 10. I didn’t farm those wolves either - I did the sheep and crabs. Although with those wolves being elites the drop rate should be higher.
You know I had a thought about this. I bet you had a lot of perception on your profession equipment when you had this kind of success. It may be that the perception is increasing the drop rates. My skinner has high perception and my friend who also has almost enough of these is doing it on a miner.
