Indeed. Drop rate is terrible. I’m well over 100,000 kills and still don’t have a single shard towards the mount.

I’ve gotten a total of 4 shards since release of game. 1 of which was in the intro quests of The War Within off the shard creature. The other 3 from various NPCs throughout TWW, think mostly from the bees and wolves when my leatherworker/skinner goes there to get his weekly gathering done.
I have one, that i got on the first week of TWW, nevermore.
Rarity shows like 1500 tries for a second and nothing, lol
Statistically this seems impossible considering pretty much anyone who’s grinded out the mount, got 10 shards within about 8-15k kills. It’s far more likely that the character/account you’re doing it on is bugged for the shard drops. There were reports of this being the case for other people as well. No idea how to resolve it however.

Well either everybody I’ve seen has a bugged account or the real bug exists in people that got it that fast

It may be dependant on which mobs you are killing. That bee/wolf area started out great but maybe they over nerfed those.
I just farmed regular mobs and had no problem. All these people having problems surprises me because my friend has 9 as well and he didn’t do all that much farming.
Although I am wondering if maybe perception profession equipment could be increasing the drop rates for these. I know I noticed a really big difference on my other gatherers in the amount of time it takes for KP drops maybe it is rightly or wrongly influencing this as well.
I got 2 in the first 2 weeks including early access, and haven’t seen another drop since.
Drop rate is either abysmal, got nerfed after launch, or I am bugged and can’t get any more for some reason.
Reminds me of grinding for the proto stuff in Zereth Mortis. Weeks of grinding to never see a drop until after some rando hot fix and then people started seeing the drops again. I cant remember if that was the crown or something else…but annoying none the less.
Did you try farming the spiders in the north east?
Got 6 in the first week farming siesbarg and the bee mount and 0 after that. Quite difficult to get them if you’re not specifically farming them.
Have farmed the entire Siegbarg mount and do bee/wolf groups somewhat regularly and still have zero 
what professions do you have on that character you are farming with?
2 shards since release. These need to be target farmed. Apparently skinning is good for this, but herbalism and alchemy does nothing for me here
If i end up at 8-9 shards at the end of the expansion, i’ll farm the last 1-2, but there’s no way in hell I’m just kill grinding for months without any realistic expectation of getting it done. Low hanging fruit are the things i go for these days, none of these crazy grinds are worth it when Blizzard is always years behind collectors when it comes to collecting achievements.
why type of profession tool are you using for herbalism - ie perception, deftness or finesse
They nerfed the crap out of the Crackling Shard farm right after Early Access ended.

skinning and herbalism
I was asking the person who said they have gotten no shards at all even though they appear to have done lots of mob farming. I don’t understand that. I have a few double crafters and they have gotten no shards but they only do small amounts of cloth farming in delves and instances.

i got the cat tiger mount with the neat saddle on my first green bag thing. pretty sure that used up my luck for this expansion.
