Lvl 28 Warrior rn. I love tanking - a lot. I’ll be tanking every dungeon I step into. But I don’t think most people have the knowledge or mechanics to be tab targeting sunders or stance dancing charge to get that initial rage. Because DPS do not wait - they’ll go all out the moment combat’s started, and if you aren’t on top of it, you’ll be chasing around enemies with no rage. That’s not really fun. Sure you can blame the DPS for overaggroing, and they may or may not take responsibility, but I can see why a lot of Warriors just don’t want to deal with it.
an experienced tank just lets the dps die.
That’s how you know you’re an experienced tank: You’ve completely stopped caring about the DPS living if they rip and run.
id just play solely with mages and priest while leveling if i played a warrior. you get all the loot to yourself and when threat gets pulled its expected. your job then is essentially just to pull initial aggro and group up mobs.
Warriors do more dps by tanking than dpsing. It makes no sense to not tank while leveling as a warrior
First lesson of tanking: if you pull, you tank
Not for a lack of effort, but if you unload on the guy in the back before I’ve even finished my Charge, I don’t have the rage to chase after you and establish threat on everything else that’s been pulled. At the end of the day, the healer’s life is more important than yours
commit to dps. give paladins a taunt so warriors can enjoy this fresh
Logistically there is a range of levels where you want to do a dungeon but you are not high enough level to tank it. But as a dps you might clear the quests and get that 3-10 quest exp and some blues from the quests.
If I pull agro as a DPS, that’s on me. If I die, I die and that’s my fault (though I’ll usually FD as a hunter if I catch agro).
I can still see how it’s frustrating if everything is running all over. I’ve been leveling a warrior slowly on the side to tank and I’ll probably regret it.
This is true. I can’t tank uldaman at my current level so I’m just waiting to do it until I can
How trash tanks think
Every Tank isn’t an expert? (gasps) Say it isn’t so! {sarcasm off}
My warrior is almost level 50. Been leveling full prot. Can’t wait to pug 5’s.
Reminds me a little of this:
They don’t need to - dungeon mobs hit like paper.
let them tank until you have threat
Any vanilla veterans remember doing level 55-60 dungeons with an off spec warrior or druid? Shoot, I did a few dozen dungeons with a shaman tanking.
Those were the days.
heh.
the words of the arrogant corpse mean little. almost… muffled.
Jokes aside, not really. Especially in early dungeon levelling where you are rage and threat starved, you’re often better off holding the aggro of the remaining pull and potentially letting the DPS die, rather than risk losing control of the entire pull and wiping in order to save one DPS a 10% armour repair.
Taunt doesn’t really make or break dungeon tanking, and I don’t think it would be enough for pallies to raid tank, but sure.
It sure is nice having it when something runs away and you can taunt it back without chasing it down though
