I finally did it! I Quit!

I finally quit soda and after a while of doing so I feel so much better. Lost a few pounds also.

What’s a bad habit that you have done for years that you finally convinced yourself to quit?

I quit alcohol 40 years ago and don’t have any regrets.

I quite soda ages ago. I used to bartend in my early 20’s and always had that soda gun in front of me. So I just eventually drank enough of it where I couldn’t stand it anymore.

If you quite something like soda for any length of time it’s easy to stay away from. If you go back to it it ends up tasting like sweetened battery acid. I can’t even finish a full bottle anymore.

Well the best comment in the thread so far is the first one lol. Because that little fox asked the main question everyone asks in I quit threads

I haven’t totally quit soda but I have to be careful on how much I consume. The fructose in it gives me toe swells. I try not to repeat that pain if I can help it.

I’ve also “quit” pop. It’s pop by the way, not soda. Sorry not sorry.

I say “quit” because I will have a diet pop occassionally, but we are talking like 2 a month and I can’t recall last time I had a regular one. I also drink zevia now, although haven’t bought some in some time now. Kind of wish I could give up alcohol but that is pretty low these days too.

In general my sugar consumption is way way down. The dose makes the poison, don’t have to quit cold turkey just can’t be like most of america and drink two 20oz pops a day. I watched a “I quit sugar for 30 days” video recently and the guy stated americans were averaging around a half a pound of sugar a day which seemed way too high, only way I could rationalize it is through regular pop as that will get you like 80% of the way there.

High metabolism, the cheat mechanic. Can consume twice the sugar of the average person without the worry of diabeetus. I generally go through as much as 5 cans a day!

Being skinny =/= healthy. TOFI is a real thing and you could be metabolically screwing yourself. Specifically your liver is the only thing that can process all that fructuse which means all that sugar can lead to NAFLD. You might be safe from DT2, but skinny people have certainly developed it because DT2 is just an extreme form of insulin resistance which your body can develop if you’re constantly consuming food that spikes it.

You’d need bloodwork to know for sure. If you haven’t at least getting a biometric screening at a bare minimum would be needed. Getting an A1C level test would also be wise, specificially to see if you would be gravitating to DT2.

I don’t drink soda as much anymore. I do sometiems when I go out but don’t keep it in the house. When I do drink soda it’s usually the “light” sodas.

Wish I could do that. They all taste like tonic water to me.

The Hub. I quit the hub.

Congrats! I had a friend so addicted to fizzy drinks that she developed diabetes. Great that you made such a healthy choice.

I’ve given up processed sugar. (I never use or eat artificial sweeteners.) It was hard at first, but after a few weeks I stopped craving really sugary foods.
