Unfortunately, that’s what happens when Blizzard decides to make a whole playable faction evil so they can push their storyline forward. It doesn’t feel good, we got no faction pride, we got no idea how well the Horde is rebuilding in Azeroth and chances are this is not the last time we are the villains.
Vanilla may have had many flaws, but the portrayal of the Alliance and Horde as equally good and bad respectively to their people and to their enemies was so well done, I guess even in TBC and WotLK you could see that, but come Garrosh and Blizzard simply wanted to make a cartoony villain out of him, making use of his insecure “I wanna be like my dad” personality, and we players are forced to help our corrupt Warchief do countless despicable acts until someone starts a rebellion and we just switch sides. Worst part is that our characters for whatever reason are excluded from any form of guilt, but the faction pride is gone. I play a Sin’dorei because I like them, but I am not a proud soldier of the Horde, not right now.
I prefer to not call him at all. I was completely done with Thrall in Wrath, but my first three steps in Cataclysm were as a brand new goblin shaman, and I gotta tell you, Thrall, THRALL of all people, deciding to give a slave trader who tired to murder a ton of people control over those very same people… was gross as hell.
he’s been nothing but a authorial self-insert wank fantasy since, and i see no reason to see him as anything other than a pile of garbage with a dumb necklace.
That I’m here at all is because everything outside of the Jailor/Sylvanas nebula is still holding my interest, even if as a whole I dislike the mega extreme high stakes of all afterlives across the entire cosmos bit.
As long as those aspects of the game continue to entertain me and something like, say, a comet comes through in the shape of something that’s cringe inducing, I will be satisfied. But I just stopped giving a solitary flimflam the moment BFA effectively took everything that I liked about WoW and football spiked it into the floor. It really makes it hard for me to feel invested.
They ruined Sylvanas as a character. They effectively ruined all of my favorite characters (Thrall, Saurfang, Sylvanas,) and zones in one sitting (Teldrassil, Darkshore, Tirisfal finnigan Glades, The Undercity.). They did all of this sloppy, hamhanded garbage that was over-the-top stupid that literally no-one asked for and have the audacity to just treat what was essentially an inferno as a match stick that’s fizzling out and won’t matter soon.
The Horde’s contribution to this expansion will be acknowledged as follows:
Even though what you did was unforgivable, thank you for the help.
I honestly don’t expect more than that. So far Baine and Thrall are the only Horde representation and both are more concerned with placating to the Alliance than sticking up for their own people. Maybe Thrall can come around in time, Baine is too far gone, he’s a softhorn.
No, but an Alliance character (or several) need to be shown as completely powerless (not against the Horde, but someone similar to the Jailer) where for the first time in a decade, a Horde leader is the hero of the zone/quest chain/whatever.
