I feel the Horde needs a feel-good moment before SL ends

Their point is that for ten years it’s cool to have Alliance npcs doing more than Thrall ever did, but damn if Thrall came back before ten years were up.

No, what the Horde requires is Warchief Thrall back and this tepid council dissolved after SL is over. The Horde has always worked best with a singular, strong leader and who better than a Thrall who gets his mojo back?

The statue of Thrall with doomhammer armor and both the Doomhammer and Axe in hand seem like a strong signaling of what’s to come, to me.

Genuinely want to see how Blizz would go about retrieving the Doomhammer that’s been collecting dust for years in every shaman’s bank.

They did an entire questline for hunters to get Haati back.

They can make a Shaman only questline where Thrall gets doomhammer back.

I mean Hati was the goodest of boys though. How can you not make a questline to save him? Doomhammer is just a hammer.

This isn’t a bad thing, but Thrall can’t be a substitute for the Horde story.
They do that with the Alliance with Anduin, Jaina, and human-form Genn, and it’s why their stories are often boring.
The Horde needs to exist as more than just 2-3 NPCs.

that is a bad idea, the moment Metzen gets tired of doing Thrall again for a bit he would just retire again and you get your next genocidal maniac in his place. Let the title of Warchief be retired to avoid being lead by your next lunatic into villain land.

Blizzard has actively been removing a lot of its monarchs Ive been noticing, and replacing them with a council system. Like Denathrius becomes the court of harvesters. It looks like the Margraves will rule in a council formation too after an armistice in Maldraxxus is forged.

Makes me wonder if the High King position is next on the chopping block, due to hostile actions of Turalyon. No need for a parallel for warchief when there isn’t a warchief anymore.

This can’t be stated enough. It’s great to have Thrall back around, hopefully for good this time, but his participation does rely heavily on Metzen. We’re at the point where we can’t really lean on Thrall for most things because of that, so it would be best to put focus on our other characters and build them up into people we can care about and root for. Once Thrall gets his mojo back we can still bring him out for the big flashy ‘FOR THE HORDE’ stuff.

Thally is fun, but its almost depressing that she, as an allied race, is one of the best developed characters we have. Heck, she’s more developed then Baine in my eyes.

Rokhan, Voss, and Gazlowe need attention ASAP. Being core races, they should have had an actual story of their ascension to speak for their people instead of the boloney we got.

Same way they did the priest dagger, I’d imagine.

This didn’t happen. The day he retired he said he’d keep voicing Thrall because it made him happy. It was administrative challenges with “wrangling alpha nerds” (his words, not mine. Source: Soundcloud interviews) that wore him out.

I really wish people would quit perpetuating the idea that “HUEHUE METZEN WON’T VOICE ACT AGAIN XDDD”

I pretty much had the coolest job ever—but the truth is, sometimes it was really hard. Building games with dozens of brilliant, passionate alpha-geeks with their own red-hot instincts and perspectives can be pretty tricky. Coming to consensus about certain design decisions, story motifs, or courses of art direction takes a lot of communication, patience, and “give and take.” It stretches you. Sometimes it wasn’t all that pretty. But engaging with your teammates and collaborating through the potential quagmire of all that creative tension is where the real magic happens.

I’m not saying he’d quit. He loves Thrall and we all know it. His passion for the character helped us develop our own attachments to both Thrall and the franchise. I fully expect him to do his best to stay in the picture for as long as Thrall is and probably beyond.

But, we’ve already had an instance where he was unable to be there when planned, though it was for a surgery (I think that’s the reason Maeiv was cut from Argus too?). He does have a life outside Blizzard now and I doubt he wants to be called upon every patch and story beat because Thrall is the end all be all Horde character.

A spinal injury, yeah. You can’t hold that against him. Life threatening injuries can happen to anyone at any time. Do we just not write any stories around any characters for fear of them?

She may have but if that was the case then that right would go to her kid, which may or may not be dead at the moment.

Personally, if there is to be a “feel good” moment for the Horde this expansion, it should probably go to the Forsaken to make up for the loss of their leader. What are their motivations without Sylvanas? Some clarification on that would be nice for them.

This is almost certain to never happen. Lor’themar and Thalyssra are pragmatic leaders and not at all the bloodthirsty warmongers that hypothetical plot would call for.

You honestly believe that would stop Blizzard?

Of course not. All I’m saying is that by leaning heavily on Thrall we just shoot ourselves in the foot when we need him for a plot point, but Metzen is on vacation in Italy or something. Give other characters attention so that we have a reason to be invested when Geya’rah or someone is slotted into his spot as a replacement.

Our characters should be more than just Thrall substitutes, which they might as well be at the moment outside of Lor’themar and Thally.

This is so wildly out of left field. No. That’s not how this works. Firstly, all voice actors are billed for specific dates to work. They plan around these dates. Secondly, his wife is a VP of something or other at Blizzard.

Christ alive, quit making up excuses to hate on Metzen.

Garrosh was supposed to be a good guy and showed many instances of potentially being one. Then he had the villain bat broke over his head.

I dont think it would ever happen to Lor’themar or Thally either (or any of the remaining horde leaders, this may be the safest horde leaders have been since WoWs inception), but blizzard has proven multiple times that if they want something done they will do it.

This whole Lor’themar turning evil thing was also more or less just a joke poking fun at blizzard.
