I’m at a loss and scratching my head over this expansion. So like, where is the content? And why don’t I have a lot of ways to gain renown so that I can find out more of the story? I hear a lot of people talking about how good the expansion is, but all I keep thinking about is the lack and diminishing return of content with each ongoing expansion. Each expansion is starting to get less zones. Pretty soon we will have 3 zones for a new expansion and it will be expected for people to applaud. I’ve played on and off all the way since vanilla and it seems the amount of content is drastically different.
I log in now and don’t have that much to do other than go right into mythics atm. I understand how repetitive world quests were, but now without them this expansion feels empty and it’s not entirely clear how to move forward to getting renown. Like am I expected to just do Grand hunts, the Dragonbane Siege, and the cooking event to keep moving forward?
Also, what’s going on with the questing. To be honest I think the questing and leveling experience was at it’s peak during WoD and Legion. I liked how each zone in those expansions kind of had their own story to tell and as you progressed through them you would see a big time event and big pay off quest lines. Kind of like Nagrand where you have the final showdown with Garrosh, the siege of Auchindoun, or how the Emerald Nightmare takes over Val Sharah and you have the pivotal moment where you have to put down Ysera. The events in these zones and quests just didn’t seem memorable. Like at all.
Not only that, but this expansion doesn’t have new elements that are unique to the expansion. I think Blizzard always had the right ideas with trying new things like Garrisons, War Fronts, Toreghast, but it was just that they half assed these all the time and it took the potential away from them. This expansion forgoes those things, forgoes the daily quests, forgoes important quest lines and somehow I’m to think this is a content rich expansion. It is good that they decided to rework some foundational things like professions and the talent system. But Wow’s main fault over the last several expansions also had to do with content. And Blizzard’s track record with content post launch expansions isn’t good. they’ve gotten worse with getting lazy and just throwing together small new zones with a sandbox enviornments where you just farm rares and do a few dailies, while just throwing in the raid.
On the other hand, the reason for this is probably just due to resources and I’m sure most of the talent was organized to go to Diablo IV. Which I am actually happy about as I’m more interested in DIV. I do though want WoW to succeed, even if it’s glory dies are behind it. It’s just strange because you would think they would have such experience with making content over the last 18 years, that it would be easier for them to do create it. I didn’t even mention the neglect PvP has received over the last few expansions and it continues on now. Battle for Azeroth…a whole expansions dedicated towards faction conflict and not one new battleground to show for it minus the one that was introduced at the end of legion that doesn’t count.
WoW just seems like in such a forgotten place. Just feels like they have a financial model to create the least they can, while trying to maximize the most they can. Which I can’t fault as that seems like logical business sense. It’s just not going to lead to financial prosperity in the long run and I think the diminishing sales of the expansions show that.

Well, at least you used paragraphs…

You’re actually out of your mind if you think that DF’s problem is a lack of content.

Funny you say this, because I log in and I’m overwhelmed by how much stuff there is to do. Literally sometimes I log in and I just log off because it’s too much to wrap my head around and I don’t know where to start.
World quests
World events - the soup thing, the moving centaur camp thing, hunts, Dragonbane siege
I’ve barely even dipped my feet into the cobalt assembly and wrathion vs. sabellion things, not even sure how that all really works
Professions and farming stuff for them
Pet battles and collecting all the new pets
Achievements for various world things - dragonriding races, pet battles, just doing random stuff
Farming rare/silver mobs for things I want from them
Mythic+ dungeons
LFR coming out soon if organized raiding isn’t your thing
Leveling alts
Plus there’s a ton of old world content if you are into collecting mounts, transmog, pets, achievements, etc.

I mean by all means please inform me, because I literally don’t see the content. Leveling up professions or dragon riding isn’t content. Obviously some of this may be from myself not looking into this properly online and through resources, but to some extent I shouldn’t have to do that. The game should make it easily accessible for me to know where the content is and what I have to do. I literally am questioning what everyone else is doing as I log in and see the world map empty and my quest log empty. I don’t even see that many rares as I fly around. I feel like I’m supposed to go artifact farming and digging up loose soil to get more renown…

You know the game just came out and raids just got released right? YOu know a patch is coming right? there is a huge feature coming in it. Do you even read what is going on with a game you complain about?
You also have almost no M+ exp. nothing done in a raid. Only honor level 49. Willing to bet ou have not one reknown maxed. Your professions are probably not maxed. I am sure you dont have all quests done in all zones.

If you aren’t doing Mythic keys or raiding, yeah there really isn’t much reason to log in.
You can grind from recipes … that’s probably fun for some folks.

It is for some people.
Yes. If you’re not in the Renown Exploit master race, then this is what you do.

So on your list I see like 3 FUN things.
Where is the FUN content that isnt time gated or locked behind rep crap or renown whatever they wanna rename it.

I’ve always found something to do every time I log in: Maybe I want to focus on PvP? Maybe try pushing raid progression a bit more? Maybe I’ll dabble more in M+? Maybe I’ll do some PvP and Blast Wave people off cliffs! Wow!
I’ve always found something that interests me, and it’s not gated behind hours of chores like SL. I have the freedom to do what I want, when I want, and I’m under no restraints to do so.

It’s been roughly the same since Legion.
And fishing, world quests, dirt digging (which should’ve been Archaeology), treasure finding, grinding out Black dragon squabbles, etc.
… we had that in every zone here?
Uh… Dragon Riding? Hello? Fishing nets, dirt digging, etc. No one wanted borrowed power systems back. We got other stuff instead.
Player vs player =/= storyline faction conflict.
So something was added but it doesn’t count? Okay.
Marketing can do wonderous things with games like this.

For something like this, you will either be satisfied or you won’t. There should be 0 expectation that you will like 100% of the content provided. There’s plenty of content. What you like and don’t like is up to you. And it’s fine but the definition of FUN is not only going to vary from person to person, but your personal definition of FUN will change over time as well.
In any case, the question doesn’t detract from the facts.

It just seems like most of the things on your list here are on every expansion list…minus the content that those previous expansions offered…And that’s what I’m getting at. So it’s like yes there is content, but where is the content that is really exlclusive and defining to this specific expansion. And to be honest with only 4 zones, these 4 zones should have been packed to teeth with things to do. The soup Bowl, the dragonbane siege, these things are quick.
I think the real problem here is Blizzard decided that rather than to admit they had been only doing half assed jobs at defining features and content in previous expansion, they decided to remove them outright and not bother trying. Rather than really putting them to the design floor and finding a way to incorporate them in as an integral part of expansions.
I don’t know…I just don’t see it… I don’t hate the expansion, but I just don’t see anything really great about it either.

Wildly disagree, there’s a ton to do. But it seems like you just don’t like what this game is offering. Try a different game.

That content would be dragon riding, and Dracthyr evokers.
The zones do have things to do, and more is getting unlocked as we gain renown levels.
I get that content seems sparse after people blow through whatever is available at launch-- but this expansion, each faction/zone has a roadmap provided so you can see that more is coming. And that’s just pertaining to the renown factions.

I mean there is a reason that is one of the most popular reasons people dont like this expansion…
Seems like 1/4 of the post in the forum are people complaining about lack of content

People asked for less mandatory grinding.
Blizzard gave that.
People now asked for more mandatory grinding.
It’s really sad to see the damage that borrowed power had done still lingers, that people need to be overwhelmed with Exclamation marks everywhere in the map. Toys, mounts, renown. All is there, but is not marked. You just have to explore a little… You know, as asked for people in these forums…
(Also, something something holidays and lots of people not being present to actually log in, as always happens in the holidays)
