I don't thin lk people understand the RAF issue

The person receiving the rewards doesn’t have to pay anything extra to receive these. All they have to do is continue playing the games. And the other people are simply paying for their sub to play the games.

No one is paying money on top of their sub to a store for an item. They are paying their sub fee to play the game and subsequently getting free things. There is no extra money involved here and no store purchase.

It’s a microtransaction if you cannot earn the reward without someone giving Blizzard money.

It’s a microtransaction if the work you do for the in-game reward isn’t playing the game… and is instead becoming an unpaid contractor for Blizzard’s advertising department.

Man, the shills are out in force today.

Just stop trying to explain it to him he’s either extremely obtuse, or arguing just for the sake of arguing.

is the most simplistic way to explain what this whole thing is, and the person you’re trying to explain it to is quite possibly even trying to make himself out to be so edgy that he can toss in the use of the word “shill” to somehow attempt to get his point across, while only making himself look even more ignorant.

Just for context, this link below explains what a micro transaction is - and it’s on par with what Rhielle stated it was. More importantly is NOT what Blizz is doing with the RaF feature - but keep peddling the narrative, Barrison - it’s funny watching mindsets like yours twist in the wind.

So everything you get in game is then a microtransaction, because you gave Blizz money to be in their game.

 That’s not how it works.

IT’S A SUBSCRIPTION FEE. YOU ARE PLAYING THE GAME.

I just… I don’t even…

facepalm

Stop insulting people because you don’t understand what a microtransaction is. Good lord, of all the hills to die on. :woman_facepalming:t4:

Only because there are so many people who do not know what a loyalty program is or how it works.

If you don’t want to recruit friends, then pay with gold. You can buy the whole thing at today’s prices for about 1.9 million gold.

For that you get 4 months of game time for your main account, two mounts, the enchant and the transmog stuff. (It is really only a new of 8 tokens worth after the free game time).

Fair enough!

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to imply that this is a no added resources needed deal. Recruiting 12 people for a month or 1 person for an entire year is a strange requirement for the type of items/rewards being offered when comparing it to the previous iteration where you got to select what you wanted when they got a month or two and it also included the 300% leveling.

Is it a direct microtransaction? No, but it does take something players have wanted for a long time and requires them to either try and convince people to spend money on the game or blow a lot of your own. Either way, putting the backpack, biplane model, and transmog behind 200 dollars to be spent by your various acquaintances or yourself doesn’t seem very healthy from a design perspective and I find the old system to be better and less pushy.

I love how you tell people to stop explaining it to me… then try to explain it to me.

I get your argument. I just don’t buy it, nor do I care about quibbiling over semantics.

Hell, I had another clown telling me it would be fine if they put a $20 pay wall on the next raid tier in defense of this… if that’s not shilling, I don’t know what is.

Call it whatever you like. A microtransaction, a loyalty program. Whatever. At the end of the day, it’s a reward that’s only available to if you get other people to pay hundreds of dollars out-of-game for a product. If this was a free-to-play game - or had no monthly subscription - I would be fine with it. You need to get paid.

But for this game, it’s a typical scumbag Activision move and all the apologists or shilling in the world isn’t gonna turn me around on this one. Agree to disagree.

I never stated it was a good plan, and if you will scroll up to see my initial post, I stated that I felt it should have been geared towards Archaeology, but then it’d be met with argument of unfairness there too b/c of ppl who hate doing that profession.

But this is not a microtransaction, and that is the argument. It is not meant for you to go it alone this time for RaF as it’s been quite easy to do in the past, and I believe the reason why they’ve done it this way this time is to detour ppl from doing as they have in the past.

This could also throw into the mix the whole notion that all Blizz wants is money which seemingly isn’t the case since this is pushing more towards actually wanting more ppl playing the game as a whole, and not just a - ok here’s an easy way to give us x amnt of months $$ for a mount - like in RaF’s past.

Unlike you I don’t talk out of my butt, I post actual information what I speak on. I couldn’t care less what you know or don’t know personally.

This also proves my point that you’re just here to argue simply for the chance to argue with absolutely nothing to actually offer to the argument other than name calling and being immature.

GG.

waiting for that wonderful comeback you’re now working tic tok tic tok

The world firsters paid tons of money buying game gold and was cleaning out entire server ah’s to get the potions and buffs they needed. wow is pay to win game these days.

In what way does anything I type prove any point you’ve made? You literally have no point other than to justify worst practices from Activision and then type “GG” like you’ve won something.

With this pointless statement I am so done wasting my time on you. lol You’ve proven everything I stated about you.

I was moreso commenting on the state of the discussion itself, not trying to target you specifically. I do agree about archaeology- I don’t think the argument about that being unfair would hold much weight because gameplay rewards are part and parcel to the game and it wouldn’t even have a very difficult barrier to entry like…say…a mythic only set. I think what could have further soothed the situation as well is if they set it up where you could choose which piece you got for each month they subbed. The vending machine setup of the old system gave more choice and made it so that the specific thing you wanted didn’t mean you had to slog through all the other things first.

Whether they intend for people to do it alone or not, raising the penalty on that is not going to stop the behavior- and I think Blizzard knows that. The cost of boosts and the cost of character services has not historically stopped people from using them and even now accounts for a big portion of their revenue. They know people will still do the solo method if they aren’t particularly social people, and I don’t think a greater penalty is good faith on their part of encouraging them to find more people. It just means more money sunk in.

You are so desperate for me to believe that, it’s kinda funny and pathetic at the same time.

Unfortunately, nobody is going to empathize until it happens to something they care about. Until then they’ll just attack you because they invest their personal worth in WoW and see criticism of the company as criticism of themselves.

What is this garbage mentality? Nothing is “free” in WoW, we pay to access the game already and we pay for the expansion as well. Of course people are going to be upset when something completely unique is locked behind a huge paywall considering we already pay for the game monthly and the expansion.

Imagine giving alliance players multiple horses and then adding a unique dragon to the store, lmao. It’s an embarrassment and this is why people continuously get upset.

I don’t care if people buy things off the store, I care that a lot of really awesome and unique designs are put behind it. Only pig mount in the game is in the store, a dragon with unique visuals is in the store, etc. We have a ton of unique mounts in the game as well but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t add more. What about an AoTC Mount? Cutting edge? M+? More island mounts that aren’t gated behind RNG? There’s a lot of options.

You can’t actually expect people not to get upset when completely unique designs are locked behind a paywall especially one that’s been asked about for a long time. Not to mention professions like Archaelogy are practically dead and not given any love at all which this could’ve easily helped.

There’s absolutely a lot of things that need improvements on in this game. lol That goes without saying.

In all honesty I wish they’d put all these appearances and extra little doodads they have tossing about here and there on the back-burner and work on all the many things that are wrong within the game itself that have needed work for far to long to pinpoint the actual start. lol

After that THEN throw in these little bites of fun.

I can definitely agree with that. It seems like many of their issues stem from a lack of coordination among the leadership so you have random things like these coming out while core systems and player morale continue to decline. What’s worse is I think maybe these doodads and extras would help with that if they were made feasibly available in the game without much issue- but they keep putting them behind various walls or attached to things. Regardless, I do hope they consider the feedback and use it to improve how they roll these things out. I only criticize a game I still have investment in.
