I curious will use VPN cause a temporary ban?

As I stated in the title, my question is will use VPN cause a temporary ban? Since right now I 'm in China and the only way to have a stable connection between the my PC and the server is using VPN. I never have this kind of issue before, so can somebody explains this to me, and if I have a chance to appeal to win this temporary ban. I truly want to play my main WOW account with my friends while I’m in China and they are still here in US.

If you haven’t used it before, there will be a temporary lock because the location active via the VPN isn’t recognized by the system yet, so it’ll assume someone else is trying to break in elsewhere.

If you have an authenticator attached to your account, it’ll ask you to verify the code before locking you out. If you don’t, it should just be a simple matter of changing your account password to unlock it.

It is not a lock but a suspension. In my understanding, a temporary lock and a temporary ban are two total different thing.

Correct, and logging into your account from a different location, what the system is going to understand when you use a VPN, will only lock the account. Bans and suspensions are doled out for less-than-savory activities in-game.

The authenticator will prompt you to prove its you, thus confirming it will bypass the lock completely because you’re marking the location as safe. Bear in mind if your VPN is dynamic, it will constantly ask you to confirm the authenticator code unless it circles back to a location you’ve already verified.

We do not prohibit the use of VPN’s, but neither are they supported, Isyourfather. Most players that use them do so without any trouble, outside of a temporary security lock to verify the account.

That isn’t to say that an account couldn’t be penalized, but it usually has to do with suspicious behavior while on a suspect VPN.

As the others mentioned, adding an Authenticator if you don’t already have one, should make things easier.

I do have the authenticator, and I thought as long as I was on the same PC, I don’t need to confirm every time I have a new IP address. Maybe it is because I used a suspect VPN. So do I still have the chance to remove my temporary ban early on my main account?

If you received a suspension, then it wouldn’t likely be for accessing your account using a VPN. You should have received an e-mail regarding any account actions along with instructions on how to appeal it.

It also would have given a category for which your suspension fell under.

I guess “A player on this account used a different game account to take part in exploitative play” means the team thinks I shared my account with others, and a simple “our support staff will not overturn this penalty” is not really that reasonably fair in my view.

We don’t tend to track your computer for most activity, so much as your access pattern. Which generally means when/where you log in from on average. When that switches suddenly or dramatically, the security system may kick in to ask that you verify your current access. With an Authenticator on the account the system isn’t as sensitive to change and will not challenge many of those switches (because the account is otherwise secure with the Authenticator).

I can’t guarantee that you’ll have a trouble free connection and that something couldn’t happen, Isyourfather. Our hacks team tries to be as accurate as they can, but they do make the occasional mistake ( that is part of the appeal process) .All I can say is that if you are playing normally, there isn’t any reason to believe you wouldn’t be able to continue to do so.

That is why I post here to ask if I will have the second chance for my ticket US 73506548 will be viewed properly. As I mentioned before, a quick several hours review and then simply told me that what they already mentioned in the email is not fair enough.

First things first, the VPN would have nothing at all to do with that sort of account action nor would it interfere in an appeal. So no need to worry about that.

All you can do is appeal the account action and that’s it. It’s not a means to plead your case, it’s just to have someone take another look at their data and see if a mistake was made. If no mistake was made, the appeal will be denied. If a mistake is found, then the suspension would be lifted.

As Perl mentioned, the violation you listed doesn’t come from playing on a VPN. That violation tends to be sharing access to an account, often for gains of some kind (i.e. boosting, etc…)… .

Understand, Isyourfather, our teams can only go by what evidence they found. I’m not really able to go into detail and I’m not an expert, but I’m looking at the notes on this and as it goes, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that an error could have been made.

I will say, that while yes, you do have an Authenticator, it appears that it was removed shortly before the activity and only recently added back.

I don’t see that anything can be done from here, but they’ll review your appeal and let you know.
