I don’t want Classic to kill Retail, because I’ve played that version of the game and frankly didn’t enjoy it all that much when it was live.
But I really do hope it’s very popular, because the Retail team needs a wake up call that their ideas to themepark-ify and tightly manage every aspect of the game are straight up bad.
They won’t listen to feedback, but they do listen to numbers.
Maybe when the servers are down. Since it’s a pay for both system they might get the energy to become a level 58 DK to tell trade chat how awesome Classic is
I hope both versions have engaging and active communities. I don’t ever want to see a game die out or fail. I plan on playing both. I will play retail more. I got my fill of Classic back when that first came out. Probably gonna make a two handed windfury troll shaman for the pvp goodness.
It’s actually funny to me. Every single player I’ve ever known IRL who play or have once played WoW is excited for classic and in agreement that current WoW has been trash for a long time now.
Whether it’s friends, siblings, coworkers etc. I’ve never met anyone who actually prefers modern WoW to the old way.
I understand they exist, because they post on these forums all the time, but anecdotally I can’t see how classic doesn’t demolish retail. I really think people underestimate how many millions of players quit WoW because they hate the direction it went… And everyone I know who’s still playing retail including myself is in this perpetual cycle of hating the game and always popping back in, hoping it’s better and leaving after a month.
Thanks for letting us know.
Classic is an exciting game but ironically has a very narrow shelf life.
I worry about the longevity of the game because unless you plan on leveling dozens of characters like the op there is frightfully little to do.
Some find this part of the charm, but for me ive been so focused on goals in games and activities around games that im not sure what i would do for 10 years in classic haha.
Ill assume that was an exageration.
The live games “direction” is absolutely going well right now though. Further irony abound, its basically being piloted by classic and its knowledge of what works well there, so not sure what you dont like.
No surprise, some one says something negative then offers no explanation, huh?
Okay, and? You’re post isn’t useful or good for discussion in anyway? You literally spouted our your view and that’s it? If that’s the case, Classic Forums are where this belong, not here.
Now if you would like to discuss why Classic is so much better, that would be productive. But as it stands, your post is a nonsense post that says words without saying anything of substance.
I am glad you understand they exist. I am certainly among them if only because Live just is way more fleshed out. There are PLENTY of things I dislike about live wow, yet there are way more things I love about it too.
That’s the thing. There are say 50 “things” in live wow, but in Classic there are 5.
I think its YOU who are underestimating the situation, if that isn’t immediately obvious.
Classic is a very attractive product for a lot of reasons. But many of those people who have quit over the years did so because they lack the dedication to goal-driven progression in a video game to play past the quibbles they have.
They may claim they love classic, but if you follow the classic community, you see many people in it exhibit a clear lack of dedication almost to an extreme degree.
Do you actually think, people who quit the game for philosophical disagreements are going to return after a decade and play the game for years on end again?
That, ultimately is my biggest concern for Classic, and basically doesn’t exist for live wow.
There is always new things to be hyped about with live wow. Even if you don’t enjoy some things, people pop back in, even if its out of habit.
Its always nice to see them return, and some of them stick.
What would happen in Classic, to make some one who is bored, return to it?
If playing classic makes you happy, then cool cool.
I had by far the most fun playing WoW during Vanilla, but I’m not going to be able to put in the time required for Classic. I have strong feelings of nostalgia for Vanilla, but I definitely remember how much time everything took.
