I can't redeem my WoW tokens from the character screen without an active sub

You used to be able to redeem or buy WoW tokens from the character screen when your game time had elapsed. This is also what the support article, updated 3 months ago, indicates. However, right now I can’t redeem my tokens (i have two in my bags). There is no option to redeem them anymore. This might have started with TWW prepatch, not sure.

What happens when you click the Subscribe Now button at the top of the screen?

Also, make sure you are on the correct realm that contains the Tokens.

Just a quick question. Are you attempting this on Retail or Classic?

Have you fully relogged, even the launcher since this was purchased?

Hi Orlyia… I am having the same problem - my subscription lapsed just as the Free Weekend started so I was active for that promotion, around 12 Noon Central I logged in and was Inactive as expected - but am not being prompted as expected to purchase a Token using Gold on my characters. I have shutdown completely a couple of times (game and launcher), still not available. I just reviewed the Support info to confirm this option is still described - it is. Article ID: 16904

This is for a retail token, bought with gold from the auction house?

Not classic, and not bought with cash?

It directs me out of game, to the webpage to buy with real money/credit card.

Yep, on the correct realm.

Retail.

Logged out of game for maybe 15 hours. Did not log out of the bnet launcher. My support ticket was actioned and they gave me a bit of game time in order to redeem the token, so I can’t check if it would have been solved by restarting the launcher, but I’m thinking it wouldn’t have.

Correct, Retail token bought from the AH with gold.

Retail, yes, and it does not involve buying a Token from the AH. Here is Blizzard’s writeup

World of Warcraft

If your Game Time has expired and you can’t access your characters, you can purchase and consume a WoW Token directly from the character select screen, as long as:

You have enough gold on one character or realm to cover the cost of the token
You have a WoW token purchased with gold in one of your character's inventory on the World of Warcraft account you're trying to activate
You have a WoW token purchased with gold in one of your character's inventory on a different World of Warcraft account on the same Battle.net Account

WoW tokens can’t be claimed for use on different Battle.net Accounts.

Not sure what has happened to the screen because just a few days ago (before free weekend), it was showing an option to purchase or use Tokens on the screen when you clicked the (Re)Subscribe Now button.

This happened to me as well. I was on earlier today and the launcher said I still had a day of game time left. I bought a token after the pre-patch was launched and planned to, as usual, just use it from the character menu after my game time expired (retail account–my main account that I have done this with for many years). Anyway, shortly after the free-weekend ended and disconnected me from one of my alt accounts, I decided to go take a nap. I woke up, and my main account game-time was expired–okay, thought there was still a day left on it–AND there was no option to use my game token from the character menu. I try to log onto my main character, and it mentions something about searching other realms for game-time, when I know I have that token (bought with gold on retail) in my bags on my main.

I really hope this gets fixed soon since there are all of these limited time events going on right now, and I wanted to get back to earning on them.

UPDATE: This seems fixed now. I actually had a nice friend gift me game time for my main account, but my alt accounts are both showing the option to use the token from my bags on my main account AND they are back to their veteran status (not starter account), so I can actually see my friend’s list and see the guild roster and talk in it, which was an odd issue that seemed to happen at the same time as the token issue. : D

I am having the same issue. On Friday during the free weekend something glitched and decided that I was completely Inactive, even though the free event was live, and I was offered the ability to buy the token with gold from my characters. Now that the weekend is over, the only option I am getting is to subscribe.

I have also gone in circles through the support site, I am never given an option to open a ticket. All support ends after it tells me that it could take an hour for gold to hit my account after selling a token, which isn’t even my problem. Everything just loops into support articles that say this should be functioning while it is not.

I was finally able to get a ticket in last night, and they just provided a free day of game time to go buy a token. CS told me specifically that it wasn’t working due to not having current active game time, which doesn’t make sense.

I did have one restart where it gave the option to get a token, but then said I didn’t have the gold for it even though the character I was trying to get in to had enough three times over. They are still not talking about that not working at all.

In general the issues with the lapsed accounts not being able to buy gametime/use tokens from the character menu screen been fixed.
Do note that the only gold counted is the total sum of the gold on characters on a single realm, and that warbank gold does not count.

But again if you feel like its a actual bug you should make a thread in bug report.
