I cant find my Wow Classic Grobbulus Character

I never played BC, WOTLK, or CATA. those are not classic. I remember opting out of moving to BC and decided to quit when BC was announced. I never wanted to lose my Vanilla progress. Human Ret paladin High Warlord, Legendary Sulf. sacraficed relationships and tons of Rona lock down time dedicated to this one toon. I was SUPER SUPER excited for Vanilla. Because i am a perma vanilla player. I go to log into my account. I see the 1 toon on the server. I go to log into the server and the characters vanished. I have a support ticket with the GMs saying they see the character. But i do not. I keep showing them screenshots of me logged into the account with no toons on the server. all my toons on all the servers are gone. Mind you I NEVER EVER went to BC or WOTLK or CATA. I havent played in like 3 years because of life. Now im back i cant find my stuff.

The realm selection screen will not show that you have characters on a realm if you haven’t played in years.

Have you tried selecting the realm(s) that you remember having your characters on? Have you checked both the classic and cata versions?

Have you tried creating a new character on Grobbulus to refresh the system?

I had 1 character on Grobbulus. Vanilla. I never moved him to any of the xpac because they are not classic. I opted out of moving him. I boycotted BC, WOTLK, Cata. I am a vanilla player. Who never moved his vanilla toon

If you go to Item Restoration – do you see the character listed on Grobbulus there?

link: https://us.battle.net/support/en/restoration/characters

The character you are posting with is marked as still being on Grobb – so should be there.

how did it move to cata? I never played. I remember Opting out of the the character xfer PRE BC

There wasn’t exactly an option to opt out of moving to BC, but you had to choose to remain in Classic. If you didn’t select the option to stay on Vanilla when it was available those characters were eventually moved to BC automatically.

From what I can see, Vamael, you don’t have any characters in Classic. All of them have been on the progression track from BC > Wrath to now Cataclysm.

I’m afraid there is no way to move them back to Classic, sorry.

I did opt out of moving to BC and WOTLK. the toon never went to either of those expansions . I selected to stay vanilla

You selected for them to be moved to a Classic Era realm? Or you did not play TBC and Wrath Classic? Because those are two very different things. If they were not moved to an Era realm then they stayed on progression servers through TBCC and Wrath Classic.

I selected to stay classic. Soomething happened with Cata. During WOTLK i could log in and my guy was not moved to WOTLK at all.

If you are referring to the Gnome Mage and Human Paladin on your WoW license, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The Gnome Mage was last played on 3/23 and the Paladin 12/22, both of those dates are well after our character clone option was retired on July 26, 2022 and well after Burning Crusade Classic launched and you would have selected a version to be on.

Looking at the quest history for both characters the Paladin has completed quests in Burning Crusade zones, and the Mage has in Wrath zones. So it doesn’t look to be a matter of the characters simply moved there, they were also played.

Unless you are referring to different characters on a different license?

First of all good afternoon, i appreciate your time and patience. Im trying to make sense of this. Im going to be as logical as possible about this. You mean to tell me that my toon is no longer Vanilla. Moved from Vanilla. Resulting in Vanilla Era loss. Even with some activate effort to make sure the character stayed Vanilla. Blizzard is physically spending time, and man hours to tell people this stuff? How is this whole move not against blizzard financially? You just had to give me an uncomfortable conversation knowing this information before starting the conversation. I am 100% there are a LOT of people who didnt speak or reach out. But the ones you do. You have to answer, and spend paid time to tell people their stuff is relocated. It is 2024 and im just finding out about this. How is this good for both blizzard or the vanilla community? I also have to feel a certain way because that means im going to start over from scratch vs people who were able to take advantage of the opportunity?

Correct, your characters aren’t on Classic Era. I can only go by the information I have in front of me.

From what I can see both of the characters I mentioned completed quests in Burning Crusade zones and one completed quests in Wrath of the Lich King zones as well, which would indicate not only were they not selected to remain on Classic Era, but they were actively played within both of those expansions as they progressed through those expansions.

I get why you would be frustrated at finding your characters not on Classic Era, but from everything I can see, it wasn’t a bug, it was something that someone with access to this account did. I don’t see a sign of an account compromise, though I do see a purchase of the Northrend Epic Upgrade back in October of 2022, so there seems to have been some desire to play that version.

Again, I can only tell you what I see. There is no indication that any character was ever selected to remain on Classic Era. So yes, if you wish to play on Classic Era you will need to start with a new character. Sorry.

there shouldnt of been this level of difficulty to prevent a toon from being moved. Have hundreds of people force to reroll and answer hundreds of tickets year after year about the same ticket is not the answer. This is a problem that isnt vanishing with time, or getting easier for customer support.

I’m not entirely certain what level of difficulty you are referring to, Vamael. This hasn’t really been an issue for those who opted to remain on Classic Era or move on to Burning Crusade Classic.

There are some who missed the boat and didn’t make the choice, and those characters were automatically moved to BC, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

As I said, you have a level 60 Human Paladin (who is currently experience locked by choice at level 60) who has completed content in in Burning Crusade zones, last accessed in December of 2022, well after we closed the option to remain or move and the clone option. You also have a level 80 Gnome Mage, which absolutely was played since they are well above the Classic Era cap, last accessed March of 2023, again well after the option to remain on Classic would have been available.

But there wasn’t any difficulty preventing someone. They made posts, social media posts, sent emails, etc telling people how to keep their Classic characters on classic. If a user didn’t see those/wasn’t playing at the time, Blizzard can only do so much.

I’m sorry you “lost” your character, but at least you can experience it again on a fresh character. The game mode still exists.

The blues here arent gms they can help as they please its up to them how and when they handle the forums.

If it makes you feel better, my 60 Priest with 300 Ench was auto moved off of Era and onto the progressing Classic servers.

I only cloned two of my 60s and was contemplating about the Ench. I made the mistake of taking a break and that’s when they discontinued it, I guess.

However, we were warned (before Cloning existed) this wouldn’t be forever. You can check out the Classic forums for what are popular realms to help you level.

I do agree the process should’ve been handled better, but what’s done is done. You are definitely not alone <3

Unfortunately, there’s no way for those characters to be “reverted back” because their status no longer exists on Era.

Good luck!
