well yeah…Im having fun…in MoP and Classic content.
Crap like pathfinder really ruined WoD and beyond for me.
The nerfing hasnt helped endear me to BfA either.
Agreed, BFA was the biggest cash grab in WoW history, flogged off and hyped as a premium WoW xpac but nothing more than an empty slot machine. The loss of subs due to this is going to bite them on the proverbial long term mark my words.
Finance 101 lesson. Revenue and profit is not the same thing. They did not say that they saw record profits. Revenue can be sky high and you still can be not making a lot of money because of low margins. These earnings calls are directed at investors, not consumers. Without investors, the company can’t raise capital to do stuff.
All of you criticizing these guys are hypocrites, as much as it sucks to see people like Ythisens go. You all either have or are going to have retirement accounts. You’re not going to arbitrarily invest in companies because they make you feel good. You’re going to choose the funds performing the best because you would like to retire with more money. This is the environment that corporations live in, like it or hate it. Aiming your organization at “just barely making enough profit to exist” is not a long-term strategy that any successful company follows.
Criticize their business decisions: who got cut, not the fact that the cut happened. Is it fair that the ones making decisions that led to so many cancelled subs in BFA get to stick around while so many caring, enthusiastic employees get cut? No. IMO that was a bad business decision. One director-level person is probably the income equivalent of 2-5 Ythisenses.
yeah pathfinder is garbage!
Mehinks that you’re confusing the term of psychopath with sociopath, because a psychopath is the truly insane; those who do not know what is right, and what is wrong. Also, sciencedirect also has articles stating that humans are changing the climate as well, which isn’t possible due to nature being a lot more powerful. For example, one big volcano spews out more pollutants then all of the industrial age’s pollutants combined. So, sciencedirect is not a creditable source whatsoever.
I’d lay good odds this is the reason for the labor cuts. Still, a crappy thing to do, but “it’s just good business”. I bet if they had actually finished BfA before releasing it, had a decent story for it, weren’t still holding flying above the heads of the players like a carrot on a stick, hadn’t just phoned in BfA and stepped out for coffee, they might be in a position to retain at least some of the people they’re firing. Not saying that for certain, but maybe if they, ya know, actually lived up to the old standard of excellence, maybe they wouldn’t still be losing customers.
Semper Fi!
Its so much simpler than that even.
Retail places are notoriously bad to their employees…like TERRIBLE. They still go shopping every week…
Kinda ends up being a ponzi scheme.
Need new investors to get money to pay off the old ones who arent happy because this quarters profits were 1% lower than projected.
Id never go public with a business. Im too much of a control freak with my stuff.
I’d like to see you apply this logic to other areas of your life. I can assure you that, that mindset will leave you without any of this or the last centuries’ necessities and comforts…
That’s not how public investing works at all. You’re buying an ownership share of the company. If the company does well, the value of the stock goes up and you can sell it for a capital gain if you so desire. If they see a lot of net income, you might get a dividend (share of the income proportional to your ownership share).
If you’re aware of a situation where a company is doing this, that’s actually fraud and people go to prison for it. Highly illegal.
oh for god sake. I KNOW its not how theyre SUPPOSED they work. It was a comparison to show how morally bankrupt the whole system is. And yes…people HAVE been caught pulling that very crap before. Taking money from ONE investor to pay off OLD investors.
You were fine when they had record profits in 2012 and laid off 13% of the workforce, though?
I just read this https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/game-workers-unite-wants-activision-174215488.html
Virtue signal somewhere else.
This happens all over the place and isn’t limited to just Activision/Blizzard. It’s called business.
The fact that you even said that you won’t be reading the comments means that you’re just trolling for reactions plain and simple.
Not to mention it is actually very likely that Blizzard will not have another major release until the end of 2020 (next WoW xpac).
Used to live near those areas. They are pretty mean at times and a guy got arrested for going around shaving people’s beards once. Imagine the beard shaving anarchy if they were ActiBlizzard sized.
These forums “Blizz is doomed, boycott the company!”
also these forums “Blizz is doing too well, boycott the company!”
Never change GD.
Its not just BFA, its the fact that Blizzard has done very little for many years now. Overwatch was quickly thrown together from the remains of Titan. Other then that game, they have simply rested on their laurels. Blizzard has suffered from poor management and influence from Activision. Now they are pressured to produce games at a accelerated pace . Blizzards days of quality are over . Maybe if they spent as much energy and time into developing games as they did Blizzcons and volley ball games at the campus then they would not have Activision taking control .
Blizzards downfall was their own Hubris
Blizzard is already gone. Its just a name now . And it was not Blizzard who did well, they have not done so for several years. It was Activision and King games that led to record revenue ( not profits) not Blizzard. So now for 2019 and most of 2020 they will have nothing to show. This is just the first round of layoff, I expect quite a few more. Blizzard became bloated. How do you have 9000 employees and yet fail to create any new games for years on end?
By not being allowed to have sufficient development teams to create things. Blizzard did JUST fine from 2010-2016 while under Blizzard-Activision. And now, suddenly, Blizzard-Activision has nothing.
My suspicion is that teams were cut as cost-savings given how they’re handling the current cuts.
