Title says it all. I have several friends on my friend lists, and some of them are also members of my guild. Despite this I have noticed that in many cases, the option to whisper certain players is absent, and that to whisper these players, I have to actually type “/w Playername” and cannot right click their name on the friend list and select the whisper command. It simply is not there for some characters.
Is there a reason for this? Very strange to say the least. A little unnerving also.
I just want to make sure that someone that was placed on ignore isn’t trying to sneak into the guild to take advantage of the guild-chat vulnerabilities that I’ve voiced a concern about over on the Beta.
As a guild master I have a duty to try to the best of my ability to keep the guild a safe and drama free environment. So really, I would hate to think that some of the new members we’ve acquired, only joined so they could view our guild chat; and thus find out the new names / identities of people that they have chosen to stalk.
my guess is that those characters are cross faction. There’s still a lot of weird issues with cross faction interaction, and communication is a big one. Any time cross faction stuff is brought up for “why cant we do this” the official response is usually something along the lines of they dont want to force players to interact cross faction since some people like to rp and whatnot, but they are trying to make things more smooth over time for the people that do want to.
id report it as a bug just to be safe.
In this case they are not. They are of the same faction and the same server. I would of assumed that as well. No no. I’m talking about another player who literally is of the same race, class and server as me. That’s what makes it so baffling.
I’ll do that to be safe.
Long and short, I have a few members who put some people on ignore. At their request I did so as well. So it’s a little strange to me when I can whisper most members of the guild, except for the newest people to join us. Other guild members have said the same issue is happening to them too, but when we asked the guild member this is affecting why that was, they said they had no clue.
Just don’t want to find out we’re being played by someone who is mining our G-Chat for info.
That is strange, Iveda. It sounds like a bug, but it might be a good idea to try with the default UI if you can, as an addon might be causing an issue too.
Try resetting your User Interface. If you use the rename method instead of deleting the files you can always revert them after to restore what you had.

I did so, as I only have 3 addons I typically use, in the form of TRP, Elephant and Emote-Splitter. That said, I think I may of figured out what was actually going on. It appears that for some reason the affected member isn’t always being logged out fully on the friend list, and they appear online when they actually are not. Because we see them as online, when they actually aren’t, whispering them is disabled.
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas Vrak, appreciated it. Will be updating the bug report I made to reflect the new info I have. Hope you, Orlyia and everyone else on CS are well and staying cool (this heat is insane isn’t it?).
