I came here to complain about something else, but

Then I saw all the Cataclysm hate and the overwhelming vocalization that Wrath is somehow the Pinnacle of what WoW was meant to be. Now I think someone needs to stick up for Cataclysm, and it might as well be me.

So let me ask… What, exactly, was so great about Wrath that Cataclysm destroys?
We got two of the worst raids that have ever existed in Wrath in the form of a remixed Naxx and TOGC.
We got class imbalance so bad that, after making a few moves to fix it, warriors are coming to forums crying they aren’t #1 DPS in every situation and Ret Paladins are genuinely performing better in PVP by using a Shield instead of actually being a ret paladin (not knocking those playing the spec but it’s terrible design).
We got essentially a Naruto filler arc up until ICC.

Ulduar was good, but it’s ICC that finished out Wrath and it’s literally just the ending that I think is the source of the true Wrath nostalgia. In no way am I trying to posit that Wrath was overall bad, it just isn’t without it’s own negatives that are mostly addressed in Cata. Is that an opinion, sure. Many might disagree. But if you think just cause you see 7 other posts on the front page complaining about Cata and there being no Wrath-era servers just ask yourselves, why have the guilds that’ve killed H Lich King in Classic not yet disbanded? They essentially beat Wrath, after all. The answer is cause they are more or less still staying together and going to play Cata.

Because, literally just the final Deathwing fight aside, the entire set of content was good.

Just my $0.02.

I never really played cata but it can’t be too bad it has firelands after all.

Firelands was an excellent raid. Having played during the transition from Wrath to Cata in live, most of my friends that quit left the game during the dramatically long ICC phase, not during Cataclysm. Those that remains were perfectly happy with the content.

Cata is a boogeyman and WOTLK is severely overhyped. There is Vanilla which plays like an old school MMORPG; than there is the expansions. All of which slowly creep into the lobby game WoW is now in DF including Wraths RDF.
WoW would benefit from running TLP servers like EQ for the Classic crowd who want to run Vanilla-ICC over and over again every year.

Yeah and I’m sure every expansion did creep a bit closer to what wow became but the expansion that pushed the most into current wow was legion. It was the expansion that really pushed for constant dungeons for ever increasing small upgrades. It was the one that really introduced barrowed power. (I really liked legion, but this was the big change expansion)

I know I’m gonna get hate for this, but this is why I think Wod is a logical endgame for classic though I think they could easily end it with mop and make a different ending for the last raid to tie up that end. If they keep going into legion I’m just gonna assume that they’re never stopping, and this will always be just a few expansions back from what we currently have.

Edit- I just wanted to add that wrath was the most logical end to classic, but since we are getting cata I’m moving forward with what is the next logical ending.

Classic ends when people stop buying. Stormwind is full of Firelord mounts right now so Id assume a lot of people are buying.

The biggest reason why the threads are here is because people would like a Wrath Era server and Blizzard said to give feedback.

People like different versions of the game. Wrath isn’t my favorite version, but I’m glad that my favorite has an Era server and I personally would prefer that others are able to get the same thing (Era servers of their favorites). IMO it doesn’t matter why some people like Wrath, it just matters that they do.

I’m personally not going to play Cata for several reasons, the biggest one being that I ran a guild that ran heroic 25s and pushed the content when Cata was current, and I have no interest in ever playing through it again.

They haven’t said to give feedback about Wrath. Wowhead invented that. They said that about TBC.

Cata PvP BiS :fireworks:

never played cata but out of all the ones I’ve played mop was the best for pvp.

MoP is my other favorite

How much research did you do before talking about WoWhead making things up?

Personally, I trust Wowhead news over most forum posters. As would most.

Anyway, here’s a video where they kind of did say that, and based on what was said about “not reading the forums yet” it’s no surprise that the threads are here. Both TBC and Wrath are mentioned, not just TBC (3:18):

This.
Seeing a ton of firelord mounts proves the forum trolls wrong.

He asked for both. Besides, the wowhead article came earlier. They even linked the interview where they haven’t spoken about feedback instead of the one you provided.

He actually says both “TBC” and “Wrath”. As I stated: "Both TBC and Wrath are mentioned, not just TBC "

It’s fine though. People can believe what they want. I even went and found a video with proof (and also any other person who listens to that can hear “Wrath” in there too, since that word is said multiple times as clear as day). (Edit: Nevermind, you edited that part saying he just said TBC)

Also, my whole point was that a person could listen to this, or even get WoWhead info, and think about coming here and posting. Which is still accurate. That’s all that I’m going to say. The threads are going to continue because there are people who want Wrath Era servers even if that bothers you. So if you don’t like that then mute the threads.

Nah its fine. First I just heard TBC but I made the video louder and heard Wrath too (edited that). That’s on me. Still doesn’t change the fact that the wowhead article was posted before that. Only thing I argued about. You can have your one thread asking with 20 different toons to get Wrath Era. I don’t mind that.

The status quo doesn’t need you to stick up for it, it has all the power anyway.

I would bet my left tusk that WOD Classic will be highly approved of by the player base, especially if they add a cut raid or something and condense the release timeline. Just look at how many people here are like “I love raidlogging WOTLK” or “I do love raidlogging WOTLK, but I want to raidlog Cata too”.

Fast zone levelling system, free resources at garrison, bank at garrison, AH at garrison, levelling professions at garrison, some sort of weird arena at garrison, garrison hearthstone and some of the best raids.

And for those nerds who want to actually collect cosmetics, there are a bunch of them that you can farm. All of this you can do with as minimal social interaction as necessary!

Not sure about MOP (haven’t checked it out in retail at all) but I heard they have a lot of daily chores and such that WOD doesn’t seem to have.

There is no “somehow”. It’s a fact. Everything post WotLK has tanked and continued to tank.

Rereleasing Cata is going to be a repeat of history.

There are multiple people making threads and/or responding to threads defending Cata. You’re not doing anyone any favors by making another one.

Your opinion, which a lot of us who actually played during WotLK into Cata disagree with adamantly.

So the actual fact, according to all information released and publicly available, is that their biggest drop in subs was after ICC but before Cata. You could argue it was for lack of excitement for Cata, but you can’t prove it. I experienced personally just half my guild getting bored after 4 months of ICC.

This is funny because if I recall your main is Mootou on Faerlina and you guys were hard stuck on Algalon and 0 Light, but you killed the heroic content 10 years ago when the content was harder than those 2 fights you were stuck on at a time where we were all worse.
