You still need a valid phone number, google phone doesn’t cut it, neither does Cricket or other cheap phone plans.
I don’t understand this actual goal of this authenticator nonsense tbh. There are more real money sales being advertised in group finder than at the launch of 9.1.5. Basically back to pre-patch numbers at this point and blizzard doesn’t do anything about it.
Well, it quite naive to think whatever Blizzard does will eradicate them 100%, if that was true, we wouldn’t have bots, hackers and all that. Blizzard should have gone all or nothing. Disable ALL of the custom fields and just allow people to list their groups with no input from them.

My iphone is a work phone and work (a pharma research org) will not permit employees to load game crap (or anything else) on their phones. But its a work-perk, and its their phone so they get to decide whats on it. Is what it is.
I’ve been playing since 2005 but I’m not going to buy a phone contract because I don’t care enough about custom text in a LFG.
I think its sad Bliz is shifting the burden of their policing that feature to its customers but its their stupid game and it just is what it is.

Adequately? Basically a subpar play experience because they couldn’t be bothered to actually make proper changes to the LFG tool.
You can still make advertisement groups, you just need an authenticator to do so. That isn’t a fix. It is barely a bandaid.
If it was truly about security, then require security for all players and don’t just hold certain pieces of functionality hostage.
At a minimum be consistent with your approach, why not require an authenticator to post in the general/trade chat? Or would that eat too much into the bottom line?
I know that if you do not have sms protect that is true. However the imformation for sms protect only says you can use Sms protect to remove your authenticator and nothing is said about it still needing an ID and anything else other than a text to remove it.
It would be nice for Blizzard to update their imformation of how SMS protect removes the autenticator and if an ID and other steps are required. I would also prefer it to not allow someone to change my password or any other account information. Maybe they could add some options so you could limit the sms protect to only doing what it is called… protect you account. Just allow us to limit what it does.
This way I only get texts if someone is trying to change account information and get into my account. Not allow someone to change things in my account. If someone wants to change account information or find out account information it should require my authenticator to do it.
So, funny story. I finally added the authenticator and sms protect to account. It still doesn’t allow me to edit the fields.
Where you live and your phone number is actually public (and not private) information. Remember phone books (via “yellow pages”) before “big tech”?

If you have internet, which you obviously do, then you can get cell service over the internet.

Did you know you can look online and check who registered to what party they are affiliated with. County Records are public. Yes, all you need is a name. I know people that make FB Pages for their wow characters.
