I accidentally deleted a character - unable to restore

I was deleting level 1’s from my character list, I had a level 1 selected and typed delete but when my character list reloaded my druid was suddenly gone. I put in a ticket but they said it’s not possible to restore characters for the foreseeable future. My druid is Renevato on Stormrage US, is she just gone now? Is there anything else I can do?

The hope is character restoration will return. Until then I am afraid no.

Wait, so there is a chance restoration wont return and I just lose this toon permanently?

The devs are working tirelessly to get this function back. I am 99% certain they will get this figured out and restore the function.

Had her professions leveled, and tons of mats for other toons on her, and she’s gone for an indefinite amount of time over a UI bug. Been playing for nearly 20 years and this is the craziest problem I’ve had with zero solutions.

TBH this is likely one of the wildest bugs blizzard has ever dealt with, seeing it directly impacts the functionality of our characters. I know they have had some other wild bugs, but this one is extremely complex.

Yeah, that’s why it’s been disabled for months with no return in sight.

It was disabled 7/23, with the prepatch. I know the summer went quick, but it’s been 7 weeks on Tuesday.

Why is the ability to delete a character still enabled if there is a known bug that deletes the wrong character? Guild mates can no longer play their preferred character in raid due to this issue. Having to convince someone not to stop playing cause they have to go through all the preparation effort again is terrible.

Its still enabled because if its done right the right toon wont be deleted.

My general advice is to put characters you want to keep just after the favorite four at the top. Put the one you want to delete at the top of the favorites. That way you don’t accidentally delete one accidentally.

I had a level 1 displayed, typed delete, and my 80 druid was gone, I did it right.

If you want to blame users, that’s fine, but if there’s this many posts about lost characters then disabling character deletion seems reasonable as the pros outweigh the cons. I would’ve much rather not had the option to delete a level 1 than losing a max level character for a non-descript amount of time.

I didnt say it was a user error but there are some factors that are causing wrong toons deleted for some and others deleting works fine.

Imagine wanting to roll an Earthen, but you discover all your character slots are already filled. Then you’d be here complaining about that.

Except deleting a toon to roll an earthen is how this mess started. I don’t think leaving it enabled and then gabling you don’t hit “some factor” is worth it. Ask people that are about to delete their toon to make room if they would like to roll the dice on the potential of deleting their main so they can.

To be frank, no it didn’t started when the new race came out. It started out about 7 weeks ago when warbands came out. Even then, this forum isn’t going to make the fix come any faster. The devs knows, they left the delete function up because it isn’t wide spread - I was able to delete low level toons repeatedly and none of the other toons I have wasn’t removed. IF you want to give feedback - not trying to start fights with others - the bug reports would be the place.

Where is the blue response to the bug? Sorry must have missed it. Again, just because you can delete a toon and didn’t hit “some factor” doesn’t mean others will. Every time you delete a character you roll the dice, if disabling the ability to delete isn’t an option maybe a pop up saying there is a chance that if you continue this may delete the wrong character. Anyway, this is feedback, there is a bug, it effects players randomly and my feedback is maybe try disabling the service.

Anyone who’s ever worked in Incident Management knows that “wide spread” isn’t the only factor in managing a high severity incident. The impact to those affected by the bug is significant enough that there should at the very least be a work around to resolve the issue in the interim since the character restoration service has been coming back “soon” for almost two months now.

I don’t see this issue mentioned on The War Within Launch - Common Issues page which is the first link most people would check when visiting this forum and clicking on the stickied thread and link. If even Blizzard are not clearly acknowledging the problem then how are the players supposed to be aware that this could happen to them? People only find out about it if it happens to them or via word of mouth which is pretty poor.

There also appears to be significant inconsistency in managing this issue for affected players with multiple reports on other sites of impacted players having their characters manually restored by GM’s whilst others continually get a response of “nothing you can do, just wait for the restore service to come back ‘soon’” on the eve of season 1’s launch.

Going to frank on the matter: There isn’t any workaround, if there was, it’d have been done already. The devs themselves was clear on the matter that they’re working on the matter, they don’t have any ETA, nor do they have any given updates on this. the Blues here don’t have a list of every little bug currently, and we’re pointing folks to the bug reports forum as that’s where the folks who take info on bugs go there.

Trying to debate me on this won’t have any impact on the speed the devs works on, nor they’re going to come here for what anyone say for input on the event bug.

What sort of work around for a deleted character? The character restore system is disabled for players and GMs.
