I’m confused about yrel

I mean sure but you do actually see/hear Yrel talking as she is coming to invade. She’s very much hyped up on light mojo as much as orcs were on demon blood.

I’m saying they will botch it though so that you end up thinking

Light = bad, void = bad
Good doesn’t exist

(Or anything “good” becomes oafish or naively weak, like they’ve done with Anduin the last two patches.)

The original stories weren’t good because Arthas was evil. They were good because you wanted him to be the hero despite being evil. And that seems to be what they struggle to recapture, because their energy is more devoted on you wanting to see the villains in everything.

Megamind already did it with Titan/Tightenville.

“Rescued you? No, I would say ‘Under new management!’”

I think lore wise the garrisons are no longer there . Game play and lore are 2 different things .

If the Garrisons were to say evolve with the actual passing of time which is around 30 year + all of the buildings would most likely be derelict or over grown by vegetation .

I actually want it to go differently. I want us to lose and the void win and us be consumed by the void…and our souls/mind now exist as extensions of the void but our souls/mind trapped in a twisted azeroth cleverly designed to keep us there and us none the wiser.

In this twisted Azeroth, we’re back to being basic adventures…but in a world that is different. The Burning Legion did invade and won…the Scourge did invade and we lost. The horde and alliance aren’t factions…we’re unified as a single faction fighting for survival at every turn.

It’s a way for the lore to hard boot reset AND provide a reasonable way to dial us back from universe/god slaying powerhouses back to basic heroes and shifting the narrative to where we’re always on the back heel while still providing an interesting way forward.

The problem though is I can’t see how it make sense for that level of narrative and it not be WoW 2 with no way back to old WoW so thus I never see it happening short of a literal WoW 2 that somehow wants to piggyback off WoW 1 while keeping them apart.

imagine when they put turalyon as king of sw. yrel is just like that one x’era i think was name might be wrong trying to do illidan in. turalyon obviously has to be the same way after all this time.

I disagree about Arthas. I think Arthas, and almost like Illidan, was a compelling villian BECAUSE he had history. They weren’t evil for the sake of evil…both had an actual history and a downfall rooted in being good/wanting to do good. Sylvanas too could have been a tragic villian if they just let her die defending the jailer to the end and even not doing the bit about her split soul (or at least it not coming to light until after she died and we get it from the Jailer or something).

The Jailer sucked as a villian because the didn’t bother to give him any kind of real backstory or reason. Just empty words how we don’t understand and he’s right (if that even). Pulling villians out of your donkey and expecting us to care or feel anything isn’t going to work because for there to be care (good or bad) emotional investment has to be there.

But it isn’t like they have the freedom to just slowly build up a narrative spanning IRL decades just to give us a satisfying person to deal with double digit number of years later.

So after “dRaeNoR iS fReE!” WOD ending, everyone from primary timeline left.
In the Maghar recruitment storyline we go back to WOD timeline about 30 years later, so at the present time, but in their timeline.

During that timeperiod Yrel led a light-based purge of all the nonbelievers and recruited “Exarch Hellscream” who may or may not be AU Garrosh depending on which versions of which lore you believe may or may not be cannon.

So basically it ends with you taking the last few un-genocided or converted Mag’har back from AU timeline to current timeline while Grom Hellscream sacrifices himself to buy you the time to save them.

So as usual the plot is “A genocide got did!” and “no consekwenses for genocide doing!” because Danuser.

We actually agree. You want him to be the hero because he had history. You “knew” him. He was an anti-hero; not a villain.

Blizzard is not making anti-heroes now. They are only trying to set up villains.

I think justifying Yrel by the content of her visions would help, just as us understanding the Jailers “what is to come” comment would have made him more interesting if we saw it from day one instead of “bad guy, look!”

I guess you guys just haven’t been listening?

They been on a binge ruining female fantasy characters? :woman_shrugging:

Years of this.

All fantasy characters, or did you ignore half the story since Thrall in Cataclysm?

They had ample opportunity with Sylvanas. The problem is more their unwillingness to let someone die and stay dead. Illidan coming back cheapens his entire storyline up to being killed.

Actions need to have consequences and death needs permanence. Just like in comics, it’s nothing but a running joke when someone dies because we all know the death is going to be skirted somehow…maybe it’s magic, maybe it’s an alternate universe thing, maybe it’s time travel, and/or maybe it’s something else…either way it’s literally impossible for any heroic sacrifice or tragic ending to feel real knowing it’s going to be undone.

Like I legit feel more for Ursoc than I do Sylvanas. Even though she easily has way more lore and reasons to feel bad/sorry for, Ursoc too gave his life AND his literal soul and that isn’t undone.

in the mag’har recruitment scenario.

she pretty much only became a villain to humanize (orcize?) the mag’har.

without Yrel and the lightforged being villains it’d be pretty hard to look past the fact that the maghar from AU draenor are not good people.

wait… characters?

I thought it was just the same “I’m a little bit obsessive an crazy!” female character over and over and over with different models?

Basically without the Orcs keeping them distracted, the Draenei from AU Draenor got a little bit too hammered on the Light Juice and eventually decided it be fun to go on a tiny holy war and convert all the Orcs to the Light or kill them if they refused.

3 years ago, Yrel gets added to the Battlenet chat as an icon…

ZOMG YREL EXPAC CONFIRMED!

/sigh.

I’m still waiting for the south seas xpac.

I think that was supposed to be BFA. Kul tiras and pirates and all that.

um, but that’s not in the south.

Of Blood and Honor by Chris Metzen is excellent as well as all of Golden’s work.
