It makes me laugh that an Alliance player is “concerned” about whether or not the Horde will be able to participate in PVP. We’ll make it work, just make sure enough of your guys show up.
Tbh, if this is gonna be the new PvP thing, having a ton of classes that can do everything would pretty nuts to see. I’m still not fan of class homogenization, it would still be fun.
That will 110% be the level 40 WPVP event. That or an Arathi Highlands based one, if they continue on the theme of existing battlegrounds.
I actually have a new suggestion for a potential World PvP event. I call it The Secrets of Uldaman.
With the approval of King Magni Bronzebeard, the Explorers league has been given permission to look into a rumor regarding a hidden chamber of Uldaman called “Tyr’s Chamber” where it is speculated the titan watcher would meditate on the cosmos’ greatest mysteries. Shortly after they arrived and began further excavations the disturbed Earth spirits cried out for aid to the Earthen Ring, the Shamanic order of the Horde sworn to uphold the balance of the elements. After an emergency meeting the Earthen Ring has decided to take up arms against the intrusive dwarves and stop their reckless excavating before further damage to the land is caused.
It will take place in a brand new hollowed out section of the open world located inside the cavern where you access the Uldaman dungeon.
The shape of the underground cavern would be similar to a smaller Arathi basin, probably without the elevation changes and rivers, but perhaps a small underground stream would be cool ambience. The Horde and Alliance will have camps on either side of the cave where the Earthen Ring and Explorer’s League have entrenched themselves for the coming battle. When enough players have engaged in pvp in the Badlands the pathway from these camps into the cavern will open and the fight will begin. Basically if 100 honorable kills happen within an hour in the zone, and the battle for the Secrets of Uldaman has not happened in the past three hours it would start a countdown until the battle takes place. NPCs in Kargath and Loch Modan would offer to teleport players down to their factions camp deep under Uldaman, or players could ride to their camps and fight in the tunnels leading to Uldaman for fun.
The objective will be the interaction of scattered objects in the zone, some more important than others to gain points for your faction. Imagine if rocket car parts were scattered around arathi basin. You can collect the small fragments relatively quickly for small points OR you could risk it and fight over flags for the big points. The large flag like objectives would be static but the smaller objects would respawn after a couple of minutes. In this case the major point rewarding objects would be various titan artifacts where as the small ones would be small crafts made by the Earthen, the custodians of Uldaman created by the Titan Keepers aeons ago. Players will have to decide whether its worth the risk of lost time to push into their enemies and claim their artifacts or if they should tend to the side closer to their factions camp. Alliance players will “Study” objects and objectives while the Horde will attempt to “Bury” objects and objectives, returning the secrets back to the earth and giving peace to the spirits. I also imagine gaining an honorable kill would award your faction with a point.
Whichever faction has earned more points within a 30 minutes will be victorious, granting their faction a World Buff while in the open world while in Khaz’Modan (Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, Burning Steepes, Searing Gorge, The Wetlands, and the Badlands and the instances therein. The Alliance would receieve “Secrets of The Cosmos” which would increase their hitpoints by 100, increase their chance to critically strike with melee and ranged attacks and spells by 3%. If the Horde is victorious, they would receive the “Gratitude of the Earth” buff which would do the same thing.
It will take place in a brand new hollowed out section of the open world located inside the cavern where you access the Uldaman dungeon.
I know the point of this thread wasn’t to come up with new ideas for World PvP events but I’m so excited I thought I would just share what’s been on my mind.
I don’t expect this goofy idea to be seen by the classic team but if any part of this sounds cool you have my full permission to take any part of it!
wpvp has never worked in any game ever and never will.
I see you fancy sweeping generalizations.
You simply have to be trolling. You cannot play on Grobbulus and believe that. I’m not sure when you leveled to 50 but I won’t believe you if you say it was any time besides major tbc/wotlk raid releases.
I played on Grobb. The only wpvp were a handful of losers that ganked lowbies in the starting zone in outland. I did my dailies on the SWP island every day. Never got attacked.
if you feel this way then maybe don’t post in a thread about it where someone is talking about being excited.
Since there was zero other reason for you to share that opinion in this thread I’ll call it out for being nothing but a troll post too.
I’m not sure what layer you were on that Quel’danas wasn’t STV but elven, but it wasn’t on any of the ones I was playing in. I distinctly remember people camped 60 yards away from the flight master waiting for some poor suckers to wander into the island to immediately annhilate them.
As for the ganking of lowbies yeah that is just gonna happen on pvp servers. You’ll need to get used to it or get friends to help you. If you had ever looked at the Throne of Kil’jaeden and any of the Towers in Hellfire you would see a little bit more WPvP than just ganking though.
Im very excited for the Ashenvale pvp.
Warhammer Online got almost nothing right, but the World PvP was the one thing that worked. I’ve not had more fun in pvp in any game.
Just a shame the rest of the game was a massive dumpster fire and Mythic deservedly closed.
I’m curious how layers play a role in this.
Blizzard has a long history of getting PVP right from Classic to Retail, especiallly objective based WPVP like Wintergrasp and Ashran.
What could go wrong?
Ashran was/is fun. AV and Isle are fun. I spent countless hours world pvp’ing.
If you enjoy PvP, keep your hopes up for the Ashenvale pvp zone.
None of that is world pvp.
I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
The “figured it out” re Wintergrasp got me.
+1
Well, Ashran was technically WPVP, but it was a disaster so they made in instanced.
I’m sure over the last few months the Classic team figured out objective based WPVP despite no one else at Blizz doing so over the last 20 years…
This is what I wanted when Honor was made. Actual war in the world, not segmented into instances.
I agree whole heartedly. I cannot wait to see what other cool idead the classic team has for WPvP. Maybe a reworked version of Silithyst? Greater rewards for EPL towers?
The possibilities are endless.
