Holy cats, classic team. I’m blown away!
Thank you for giving us incentives to engage in world PvP! A lot of my fellow Grobbulus players will agree that WPvP doesn’t necessarily need incentive but the incentives we’ve seen will revitalize pvp and keep folks coming back to the fight!
I cannot wait to see what’s next for WPvP in SoD! Perhaps the next PvP zone can be Stranglethorn Vale and we could earn the Bengal Tiger mount! I bet the Steamwheedle Cartel would be willing to sponsor a ruthless blood sport, and maybe Short John Mithrill can find extra treasures to entice players into the Arena?
The only thing I would ask you all to consider is the removal of dishonorable kills. Removing dishonorable kills would let players bring the way not just to the enemy faction leader, but to their towns! That player versus player interaction is why so many people flock to PvP servers.
Maybe We could see some sort of tug of war/territory control events in later zones? Perhaps once ever couple of hours the Ruins of Eldareth in Azshara become awash with magical relics and treasure hidden for aeons away from the Blue Dragonflight. The Horde and Alliance would fight a tug of war battle through the sunken city until one faction controls the entire city and fortifies it, not unlike how wintergrasp originally played.
Thank you so much, Classic Team. I’m so excited to see what you come up with. I’ll see you all in Ashenvale. For the Horde!

Maybe only removal of dishonorable kills during sieging events, it would really suck to have someone camp quest givers all day. Yes, they will do that (Hi Ganknoobs, I know you read this). But during a sieging event, it could be an all out free for all brawl

The Ashenvale wPVP is enough that I’m thinking of starting a guild so I can control who I play with (avoid dads/boomers/keyboard turners/clickers)
Death squading in Ashenvale sounds amazing.

I really hope there’s no timed gate to this event. Every time Blizzard tries to make a WPvP area, they always mess it up with timed restrictions.

The Ashenvale pvp is going to be epic.

This is probably the most interesting thing about SoD to me.
It’s nostalgic on a personal level because in Vanilla we had a guild that set their hearthstones to Astranaar and would defend it every time. That was their whole thing. That wasn’t on an RP server either although PVP RP servers didn’t exist at the time.
I don’t know what to think about the PVE bosses though. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

I think it would be better as capture the flag personally. Maybe two zones to control with CTF. Controlling one zone increases ally speed by 5%, controlling two is 10%

CTF or Domination? I would worry about CTF with how janky the old world is, even the dedicated CTF map has actual out of bounds.

Yeah that sounds like it’ll be pretty cool. Not over the top perfect, but really glad they’re taking some chances with a classic+. I think the staggered level system they’re doing will help develop it properly as well. So they’re really taking some decent steps with this. Looking forward to it.
However I don’t want it to replace fresh era resets.

Yes, any wPvP event let’s try everything! That’s where the spice and life of Classic is, organic world interactions and PvP!

I think they could do a Battle for Lordaeron, new World pvp in Tirisfal.

I would rather see them do something in Hillsbrad Foothills. That way the Horde (sorry bretheren) don’t have the homefield advantage. Maybe each faction will try and control the ruined tower on the road between the two towns and if a flag remains undisturbed for 25 minutes the faction that capped it “wins” the tower and it is rebuilt, providing a buff and elite romaing guards for that faction in the zone around questing areas.
That way if the Horde wins they will have elite forsaken Deathguard troopers backing them up if alliance try to gank in hillsbrad fields. And Alliance can have Southshore marines patrolling wherever alliance quest.

I really like the risk they’re taking with this. But I think they need to start putting in faction balance failsafes. Something like an inability to create more characters on one faction if the faction becomes more than 55% majority.
It appears to me that ashenvale very much favors the alliance as far as the strategic location of astranaar. And for the past few years, alliance has been obscenely dominant in demographic numbers to begin with.
Lopsided faction population is the number one killer of World PvP. So this will fail, out of the gate, if everyone crowds on one faction. Not to mention how quickly one can just reroll on the bigger faction since the cap is 25. Barring that, this is a very solid idea.

Don’t even tempt me. I’ll do 10k honorable kills for that mount.

Ashenvale PVP is going to be a disaster unless Blizz controls faction balance.
SoD will tip to Alliance very quickly due to Windfury and OP Paladins, followed by an avalanche of Horde rerolling Alliance (since 25 isn’t a huge commitment) because Alliance dominating Ashenvale.
Open world PVP zones didn’t work in Wintergrasp, so I see no reason to think the Classic dev team “figured it out.”
Bottom line, it will be great for Alliance for a week or two, then it will be dead.

Blizzard please read this. I am from Grobbulus, which has had perfect faction balance for all of classic and I know this would absolutely ruin the pvp. Please give the servers a faction cap! make more servers if you need to!

There’s going to be like a billion UD rogues, I think we’re going to be fine.

And 10 billion Orc warriors.

Blizzard needs to explain how this is not going to be some giant mess of faction imbalance.
