Hunters! What pets are you after in Classic?

The pet you choose to roll with in Classic will say a lot about you as a Hunter since there are such big differences between them. Additionally, on a few pet slots means that your choices really matter.

I am pretty sure I will be rolling a Nelf Hunter again, same thing I did in Vanilla, but I am not certain on what pets I will be taming. In Vanilla I ran with Humar and one of the black armored boars from Razorfen, loved them both dearly. Just taming them was an epic adventure in itself! Towards the end I also went back and tamed a black widow spider from Duskwood and leveled it when I was out farming as a project pet. Not too many alliance hunters had spiders in those days, it was fun to be a bit different.

Not sure if I want to repeat all that or try out some new critters this time around. Such choices!

What say all you other hunters? What’s your plan, and most importantly, why?

I remember killing The Rake on my Tauren Druid back in the day and getting reamed out by a Hunter shortly after

If I roll one I would go for raptor wind serpent and boar.
Turtle I may use for its tanking capability.

If I can tame snakes then snakes or if the bugged snakes are in classic I will tame them seeing how snakes came tbc pre patch I think.

Definitely Brokentooth!!! 1.0 attack speed is too good

Boar is a better tank pet then turtle when you incorporate the hunters skill to properly use their pet. I know a dude who would rolfstomp farm elite black dragons with a piggy like it was nothing but again better because of pet handling skills.

Kresh. I played mostly solo on my hunter, loved the high armor rating and just the aesthetic of a big turtle for a pet. Agree with ^^ that turtles were really not an optimal pet, but it was still my favorite.

Also had echeyakee on an alliance hunter just because he was such a pain in the but to taim. You have to sit there and wait for a horde to summon him, and then that horde also had to be willing to let you take him without ganking you halfway through for the lols.

I was so proud when I got Humar, and want him again. He’s an elite in Vanilla (I assume he’s not anymore).

If I end up playing alliance, I’ll bring my hunter to where Echayakee is spawned and hope there’s a Horde nice enough to spawn him, but let me tame it.

Yea I rolfstomp some elite black dragons with a cat.

But turtles are fun.

I love old hunter pet abilities sucks what happen to them on modern wow, they became raid buffs and became the same among many species.

Owl to level with (yay for Night Elf), keeping an eye for Brokentooth for sure. Other than that I’ll go with what I like - possibly a wolf.

Devilsaurs in wotlk were cool how giant they could get.
I miss those giant beasties.

I asked about how rare spawns will spawn at launch for this exact reason.

I’ll be going after Humar as soon as I am able to which is level 23 I believe. Until then I’m rolling with a crab because I’ve never seen some one take one as a pet if even for just a few levels.

I’ll be taking Humar to 60 as my main pet and will go for a Wind Serpent and ZG bat for the other 2.

Edit: I know it’s going to be tough going for him right at 23 especially right at launch having probably the most simplistic gear. Just thougt if I get a mage to poly will beginning to tame break that? Will it even let me start it? Was also thinking of leveling survival to imp traps and trying with imp freeze trap hoping for snares? Any thoughts?

Echyakee, Kresh, and Tethis.

If you PvP, Brokentooth is the only pet with a 1.0 attack speed. It interrupted casters to oblivion.

ZG bats have 1.0.

I only had a really low level hunter in Vanilla.

I remember trying to feed it stuff and I always got a message saying it couldn’t eat that.

Ah yeah, lol I think if you went into the pet window and hovered over its happiness it showed you the types of food it wanted in the hover window.

ZG bat. 1.0 attack speed and I get to listen to all the melee complain about the screech spam.

Please don’t encourage hunters to use ZG bats…

14 years later, I can still hear that godawful screech noise they make.

On behalf of everyone with ears: I… hate you.

For those that are looking for pets at lvl 10 and up before endgame or pvp etc…
If this is your first toon youll be flat broke and want to level as fast as you can right?
Bear, a bear will eat just about anything in your bags. Saving you hassle in farming food or buying food in an emergency. Saving gold till you have your mount is your #1 goal.

p.s. Gorillas eat peaches, I always thought that was super cute.
