Hunters were behind Warriors, Rogues, and Mages in DPS. Why nerf?

The great pet riots of 23, i was there sonny they were hosing us down with lightning breath.

To clear up some clear confusion people seem to be having…

Wind serpent lb has a rap scaling of about 12%

All modifiers do not change that value.

Not the 20% from talents or the 20% from runes. It does make it more impactful though. As after the rap damage bonus is calculated then it gets those 1.2 multipliers applied to it. That 12%rap scaling does not change.

I was crited by a lightning breath for 450 damage. That is fact. Both of us were 25 to clarify.

Ah yes, 12% damage increase of 51 damage should always come out to… 137? And a 260 crit??? Yeah… I believe you…

I was seeing Chimera shot critting for 470 on turtle-boss pre-buff. I’m actually excited to see what it crits for now.

I wouldn’t bother responding to this mage, notorious for coming into threads and conflating things. The chimera shot is great because it layers serpent sting damage when stung into your bow damage. A crit from that is crazy great.

With a slow weapon, MM can put out some really high burst.

That being said, I’m not certain the buffs to the other hand runes actually makes up for the nerf to the BM rune.

Because its a spell that benefits from spellpower. But it doesnt get any spellpower from the hunter. It had the world buff on it and now it gets 0 benefit from the world buff.

Lb has a weird quirk to it that while it is a spell, it benefits from the physical crit modifier. So instead of +50% damage for spells, its +100% for physical attacks. That is something they could have looked at nerfing but didn’t.

So if you got hit by a 450 crit, its base damage was 225 without the crit, which would have required essentially full bis gear and occured before the world buff nerf.

Nahhh I swapped to marksmen talents and it’s great. I used the nerfed bm rune too and it’s still amazing. Overall it’s just a good change, especially the focus regen.

Your excuse is now the world buff? You know they no longer get that lol. They stopped before the nerf too.

Wow, you do a LOT of gaslighting. Take a tums.

Oh, i agree with the change. Don’t get me wrong. I haven’t tried my hunter since the change went live, but I was MM before they changed things and I liked it. green-geared hunter was still like #2 in my BFD pug for dps

edit: I didn’t even use BM rune. I was running Chimera already, so for me this is just a pure buff lol.

Its because those classes you referenced actually have to play their class. They don’t get what’s effectively an infinite DoT that does a second player worth of damage.

Glad we could clear that up for you.

I play hunter and I see this, realistically, as one of two scenarios and both are equally yikes:

  1. The hunters complaining are just raid loggers that need their number to be higher than someone elses number even though the boss is going to die either way. Yikes.

  2. The hunters complaining don’t actually care about the PvE, and are just trying to pretend thats the loss they are concerned about to hide the fact that they are devastated they can’t pretend to be good at PvP anymore. Yikes.

Pets are boring and I hope they get nerfed even harder. GG bad hunters.

Incorrect, i had already killed it once and he was forced to revive it.

Sis, ask anybody else, they can attest to this… Unless of course… You’re drinknblinks alt… But of course you aren’t, on the same threads… Curious… But that’d be crazy… Right?

I main hunter and I approve of this message! I hated it because it made the best playstyle only one play style. Ask any real hunter player they’ll agree. “This sucks… I just wanna play other talent trees or other runes but the astronomical power in the pet tree is too much” And there ya go. These slight changes make it better. I just hope lonewolf gets a rework of some kind, it’s good for raiding but that’s it. Even then pet damage is reliable and keeps going. So I’m not sure! I just think strictly damage increases for a class that has damage increases and is already known for good solo leveling/play isn’t good design. Give us more party based abilities!

Reminds me of that scene in the Boondocks.

Tauren: Aw man I missed it. Was it bad? Did they do the thing with the lightning breath?
Orc: What do you think, chump?
Tauren: Damn, what’s eating you?
Orc: A god damn Wind Serpent. That’s what’s eating me. Where was you?
Tauren: I had to go back to my apartment because I forgot my nature resist cloak.
Orc: You went to- you- this cow went to get a mfing rain cloak.

I kind of disagree with this one, though. I LOVE hunter pets. BM has been one of my favorite specs for a long time (edit: as a concept, hardly ever in practice). I just think the pets were overtuned, though, in SoD. They should do consistent dps and not be so bursty if we want them to remain an important part of the hunter kit.

Also: Buff Lone Wolf for crying out loud. It needs to be like 30% instead of 15% for it to be considered as a rune right now.

Base damage is about 40. So that 51 from scaling goes to 91
91X1.4 is 127. Im guessing you got your numbers from before the nerf, but even at 127 a crit would be 254. And if it was an orcs wind serpent that could easily put it at that 260. But that 254 is within the realm of buffs making the difference. As an example might on the pet adds 55 attack power, and the pets convert the rap into melee attack power and use melee attack power for their abilities so might could easily add that 6 damage for the 260 crit.

You’re hopelessly paranoid. Put down the weed, bubsy.
