Blozzard has intentionally not updated how hubters deal with stabled and active pets. Likely due to a bug they are putting off fixing untik offical cata launch.

Hunter Pets

Hunter pets will function differently in the 4.4.0 Cataclysm Classic Pre-patch than they did in original Cataclysm patch 4.0.3a.

In original Cataclysm, Hunter players were able to place 5 pets in their stable and summon them anywhere in the world.

Initially in patch 4.4.0, Hunter pets will work the same way they do in Wrath Classic. Hunters will continue to be able to summon 1 pet and will need to go to a Stablemaster to switch to a different one. We will update this Hunter functionality with the Cataclysm Classic expansion content launch (or sooner).

Additionally, original Cataclysm launched with Pet Aggressive stance, and Pet Assist stance later replaced Pet Aggressive stance in patch 4.2.0. We plan to have Pet Aggressive stance in place with 4.4.0, and then add Pet Assist stance in a future update.

Call stabled pet, it was a wotlk ability, which they removed in cata. We are in a purgatory of not having that ability, but not having cata stables and call pet.

Essentially the worst of both worlds.

So nothing new for hunters.

Hell, just the 5 pet stable is bugged for me too. I can’t even equip my other pets, better not have lost them.

Make sure your pet is actively summoned, drag the active pet into the stable slot of the pet you want to take out. Thats how i got it to work.

I believe the original question is: when do we get a stable for more than 5 pets. I saw the post that was linked regarding pet interaction and being able to call multiple pets. I’m most interested in when our stable size increases. I would like to get more hunter pets especially so that I can cover buffs as needed. Has any information been posted on the stable increase specifically?

Cataclysm introduced a huge stables. Blizzard just didn’t bother to put it into this patch. They also took away remote access, which is stupid, as it means you can’t change pets without going all the way back to a town.
